What a fantastic lady she was. We just don’t have the likes her anymore & it breaks my heart. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten. 🇬🇧 21/10/20
@@Steampunksaly yes. She had the same illness my mum is going through right now & she no longer knows me. When Hilda Baker had Alzheimer’s people thought she was just being difficult & turned there back on her.
Both were fantastic comics, especially Hilda Baker, but this song went down a smash in the drag pubs in the UK, we can enjoy taking the piss of ourselves, thank gawd.
Just been watching Hilda & Jimmy Jewel in Nearest & Dearest. Brought back memories and then watched this video, well that topped it. What a laugh the comedies of old were. Brilliant. Xxx
I know a lot of people have ridiculed this over the years - but I don’t think people get what they were trying to do at the time. What two GREAT ‘sports’ they were to do it - and it actually charted! I couldn’t stop laughing - especially the long verse where Hylda is getting all the words wrong as she sits Arthur in the Fairground Car! LOL
Can u please explain BRIEFLY!!!! what you mean A. Mullard he was a monster Maybe many like myself either forgotten or no heard. So , kindly explain in to long what you mean by your statement. Or claim whatever you wish to call it.
@@thestig8133 His daughter accused him of abuse and was backed up by her brother. They also accused him of DV and said that was why their mother unalived herself.
God bless the birth of comedy, it will go on forever, these guys reminds so much of being young when they were always on the box entertaining us..Nellie pledge and Walter were my favourites. Need a pickle right now, bye bye.
Just showed that to my wife and she said she had never seen it ! On further questioning turns out her parents did not let her watch Top of the Pops back in the day. Blimey, the Amish of Bromley ...
Arthur Mullard used to always be at Highbury Station when I was on my way to school from King's Cross back in the early 70s. He was so polite and charming. And so very funny. Hylda Baker is hilarious, hugely under rated. She almost made me split my stitches after my appendix operation when I saw her on TV in the ward. I have this '45 - funny stuff!
Millard was a dirty old pedophile who raped his own 13 year old daughter and caused his suffering wife to commit suicide .. he also beat his wife for years . Mullard was a horrible man.
This record was just mentioned on His Masters Voices onRadio 4 by Cerys Mathews and Tris Penna as an example of a single record you could play if you ever want to understand the British
A girl asked me if me and her can play Danny and Sandy in a school play of "Grease" and I would've wanted to sing like how Arthur Mullard sang it and messed up the play! :P
This performance comes across as sweet and kind of nice. Even if this was intended and planned and performed as pure comedy, something pleasant and agreeable came shining through. Could be something about the man's facial expressions and postures. The raunch and aggression of the original version is gone, and this is about two people expressing affection for each other. I would like to thank the producer of this youtube channel. I have enjoyed this (Note: have never seen these two performers before. I'm contributing this comment from the US).
Hylda Baker was MASSIVE in her day! You’d have been surprised how she was in real life; well made up, fur coats - lots of expensive jewellery and big flash cars, and yes; she actually had Toy Boys!! She got one a bit part in an episode of ‘Nearest and Dearest’ (not sure it aired in the States)
Hilarious! And so ironic I’ve come across this after sad death of Olivia N J recently! 😢😢🙋♀️🙋♀️ SO much great talent, now sadly lost from us! 😢😢😢 RIP 🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🌈🌈✨✨💥🇬🇧🥰
Im not sure if they had even performed together before this. My guess would be that Queenie Watts was the first choice but she died just before this was made.

I'm sure Hilda (Nellie Pledge) and Arthur Millard would have done much better job in the big film version rather than Olivia Newton John and John Travolta. Nellie Pledge is fantastic has Sandy with ONJ coming a poor second. Nellie Pledge looks too young for the part really. This is British comedy at its best and daftest. I wonder what our American friends think of this much superior version of "Your The One That I want" ? I doubt that they would understand the deliberate mispronunciation and double meanings to some of the words e.g. Meditate and medicate. Pure Hylda.
One of the rare occasions when a cover is better than the original
Defo better than the first Matrix lol 😆
Arthur has such a great natural voice, he should have sung the theme tune to the snowman 😊
I hope you're having a laugh

Hylda was a comedic genius ,the likes of which we will never see again . Sadly missed
And our Arfur

Having that roller coaster go round what looks like a skip is a lovely touch

It's nice to know that Arthur Millard passed that toupee on to John Travolta. Passing the torch, so to speak... ;)

Apparently Hylda Baker saw the Newton John/Travolta version of this song and thought that it was a cover of her rendition
Much better than the original!
Please remember to all the people who think some of our heroes are paodos, we all have our memories and we are not the Judge and Jury.
