  • **Giveaway details**
    Watch the video through, subscribe to wd40 bike's TH-cam channel ( / @wd-40bike79 ) and tell me (comment below) the 3 places I applied the WD40 specialist silicon spray. I'll pick 3 winners in one week!
    I have been using wd40 bike for the past two years. I was introduced to the product at BC Bike race (they are the complimentary bike wash service there after each stage). I thought it was super easy and intuitive, so I reached out about product for CX. It's been a clean and shiny partnership ever since. You only need three products: Bike wash, Foaming degreaser, and lube. You can also add in silicone spray if you want to treat your bike to something nice.

    Just an fyi, you shouldn’t use a presssuer washer on your bike, or at least not all of it. Using a pressure washer in bearings, like those found in your bottom bracket and suspension linkage makes it wear far faster, and removes any good grease there was.

Just be smart about where you apply pressure. I also take the time to uses a leaf blower to dry the hard to reach places around the derailleur, cassette,and breaks.

    Great tutorial, please do allow me to share my washing routine, i use the muc off c3 dry lube (dish soap soluble no need for degreaser AT ALL) So i blast water into the chain links and spray dish washing liquid on the chain and brush all of the chain + pulley + chain rings and i once again blast it. By this stage the only thing on the bike is dirt on the frame and totally oil free. I then spray dish washing liquid all over the bike without any care for rotors because if you can eat off your plates, your rotors will not be contaminated. I then sponge wash the whole bike and proceed to drying/protection. Since i have used Turtlewax ice seal and shine on the frame and wheels, dishwashing liquid will NOT remove any hydrophobic coating at all (proof on youtube video on the turtlewax) all i have to do is use a portable air blower to blast off the water and since it is hydrophobic it just slides off. I blast all bolts as well as FD and FD as well as chain. By this time the bike is 100% dry and chain is 80% dry. I feel comfortable to relube the FD, RD and chain with 0% chance of contaminating the brake rotor. I bought the muc off protect but i have never found it to be a good idea to spray any aerosol anywhere within 50m radius of my pads and rotors. I wash my bike once every week and they are absolutely pristine.

    Do NOT use the compressed washer, those water will get into the bearing. and cause erosion. And definitely don't spray the degreaser directly into the rear cassette, it will destroy the lubricant inside the bearing. The best way is to take both wheels off and apply degreaser on chains only, use a bristle to dip degreaser and brush off dirt and oil off the rear cassette.

    This video should read, "How To Ruin Your Bike Like A Pro".
    Sure Kerry got the bike clean quickly, but that bike is going to suffer major expensive sealed bearing problems in about six months.
    ONE: Never use a pressure washer as it easily pushes water past the bearing seals that are like one-way water traps. Even slightly pressured water easily goes past seals but has no way to come back out. That tiny bit of water quickly starts to rust those tiny steel bearings (FYI: Ceramic bearings ride on steel raises), and a few months later they start to rust and seize. To see if your swing arm bearings are ruined all you need to do is remove our shock and your swing arm should move easily, but if it's a little stiff, that means you have ruined rusted bearings. $$$$$
    TWO: Never apply any kind of solvent on your cassette or chain when it's on the bike. Why? Solvent has a very high capillary action and easily goes from the cassette or chain into the rear hub and BB bearings. When it does it washes away that tiny grease film between the balls and the raise causing the balls (metal or ceramic), to roll directly on the metal raises with no lubrication, instantly ruining that bearing. Add water to the mix and it just speeds up the death of those bearings. You need to remove your cassette off your wheel and chain off your bike and clean them. It's actually very easy to do and will save you hundreds of dollars or bearing repairs.
    BOTTOM LINE: It erks me to see major companies push their cleaning products on Pro riders, and then give stupid advice to gullible consumers on how to use their products. Consumers assume these are major players they would never do anything bad that will hurt your bike... Well, this video is proof of just that. Don't believe me? If you just purchased a Brand New, high-end full-suspension bike, do a before and after test on your swing arm by removing the shock and see how easily it moves when new. Then follow the advice Kerry & WD40 gave on this video a few times. Five or eight months later remove your shock and see if your swing arm moves easily like when new... Guess what??? To quickly check if you have rusted out bearings remove the seal with a sharp tip knife and if it's brown in color, that's a ruined rusted bearing. It also means they might all be the same. I get to see this kind of tragedy all the time in my shop.
    PRO RIDERS vs CONSUMERS: Keep in mind, most "Pro Riders" get a steady flow of new bikes, and equipment (FOR FREE), to keep up with new technology testing. So they rarely get to see the damage they have caused. Whereas with a "Consumer", a full suspension bike is a major investment and would want to avoid stupid advice (like this video), to protect their investment for the long term.

    • @KerryWernervlog
      @KerryWernervlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is quite an extensive comment. Thanks for taking the time. I for one will continue to pressure wash, use degreaser, and advocate people to do the same. I have only had to change linkage bearings on a normal time schedule and have had zero problems with rear hubs/chains from using degreaser. I think it's common sense not to blast bearings with a pressure washer. 8 months of hose washing won't spare your bearings of rust. They will need replaced just the same. Cheers.
