You are lovely and your videos over the years have been used to enhance my reading experience. Your insight and recommendations are always perfect for me as a reader. A great little Steinbeck book that you may like to read on a kindle is The Wayward Bus. A powerful human story almost like a play. Thanks for the many years of brilliant booktubing.

You have a real gift in describing books. I have read many books solely on your recommendations. I hope you know you make a difference in many peoples choices. Keep on doing a good job as you always do. I also appreciate that you are no longer feeling pressure to produce videos on a weekly or more basis and it's a more organic event!

A great collection of books! Hardcover books are about 35-40 dollars Canadian but, as one of your commenters wrote, a good book will provide a lifetime of enjoyment that can be shared with others, so I don’t mind too much. Valley of the Dolls, wow, that just threw me back in time! I recall enjoying that read very much. Good to catch up with your reading! 🇨🇦🙋‍♀️

As always it's wonderful when a new Helene video appears.---Very interesting mix. I haven't read about the Romanov sister but I once read an engrossing book called "Victoria's Daughters", who were the cousins of the Romanovs.---I've read most of Jacqueline Susann's books, enjoyed all of them but the sci-fi book "Yargo" which I quit reading. I also read Jacqueline Susann's biography "Lovely Me". Fascinating to read about how "Valley of the Dolls" was close to not being published at all because as originally written it was considered to be so bad. Well, I liked it AND the movie.---Many years ago the other Helene, Helene Hanff who wrote "84 Charing Cross Road" said in an interview once that people could spend a fortune for a night of dinner and theater then having nothing to show for it yet complain about spending twenty dollars for "...a book they'll have for the rest of their lives". That 60 dollars really isn't so much when you think of the pleasure you and others can get from that book for many years.

I love the idea of sharing a book with your mother. I think I will do that with my granddaughter.

If you enjoy reading The Romanov Sisters, I highly recommend you pick up Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie! I just finished it, and it is such an in-depth, beautiful, and tragic story of the last Romanov Imperial family. It truly makes you become so fond of and attached to them. It's heartbreaking but so important.

Sounds like a nice mix of books. Many of these seem a bit sad, but also interesting. And yeah, book prices can be very high here in Sweden as well, although still not quite as high as across the strait. I mostly shop from Swedish online bookshops though, which I feel is most often considerably cheaper than going to physical stores.

Wow!!! and here I thought books in Germany were pricey. Yikes!🙈 Hardcover books here cost about 20 to 30 Euro (so about 28 Dollars) that why I order english/american books on Amazon they are cheaper or use the library, BookBeat most of the time. Lol! I loved Ask again yes btw. Enjoy your new stack!

Too bad there's bad reasons behind Amazon's cheap prices, in terms of working conditions etc… Books in Sweden cost around 26 dollars in physical book shops and 20 in webshops. I tried to find the price on the pricey book, Tabita. I didn't find any site that sells it for 60 dollars; the publishing house sells it for 45 - which is expensive enough! - some shop called Bog&Ide sells it for the same price, Saxo sells it for 29. I try to borrow most of my books now, however, because of my economy. But I would also like to move to a new apartment some time, and it a mess to move around with too many books… ;) (it takes forever to get an apartment here, though).

Wow, I thought new hardbacks full price were expensive in 🇬🇧😱, suppose there has to be some downside to living in 🇩🇰😉

I hope you love This Tender Land as much as I did. It was one of my top five books of all time. Ask Again, Yes was wonderful as well. I am shocked at the price of hardback books in Denmark! No wonder everyone loves and uses the library!

Wow! Why are new book prices so expensive there?!

  • @CMri

It always saddends me to hear how books are expensive. It's like they don't want people to read but still they will make street probes to show how little people read and how bad it is. I see books going higher in Poland as well. For a past few years they've been for around 35-42zł and latest new releases are 45-60. It's around $18 but for people living with zł it's very expensive. I see myself buing less books already 🙁.

I found your channel by looking for hygge and I've been with you ever since. Glad you're making videos again :) I LOVED "Ask Again, Yes" and deeply connected to various aspects of it, but heard negative reviews of it from others. The book about the sisters sounds really interesting. OMG books are expensive there!!! I'd be curious if her books are translated into English. That's so fun to read a book, add your notes, and pass it along. I did this with some booktubers once so that the book would eventually make it back to the original owner with notes from all the other readers, but books never made it back :(

My goodness....why are books so expensive when they first come out in Denmark. That's an extortionate amount of money for a book. Would it still be expensive on Kindle? Is it any wonder then that libraries are a very important place!
