- Brandon Figueroa appeared to gaze in almost disbelief. In a tightly contested match, Figueroa believed he had clinched the WBC and WBO junior featherweight unification title fight against Stephen Fulton Jr. in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
However, there was one significant twist: Figueroa was defeated.
Fulton emerged victorious with a majority decision, securing both belts. Judges Tim Cheatham and Dave Moretti scored the fight 116-112 for Fulton, while David Sutherland saw it as a 114-114 draw.
"This was an intense battle," remarked Fulton in a postfight interview on Showtime. And the intensity didn't diminish with the announcement of the scores.
During Fulton's conversation with Jim Gray, Figueroa interjected, still puzzled by the judges' decision.
"Do you genuinely believe you won the fight?" Figueroa queried Fulton.
"It was a closely fought contest," replied Fulton.
The exchange continued for a few minutes, with Figueroa asserting he had rocked Fulton "five or six times" and Fulton consistently acknowledging the fight's narrow margins. Perhaps it was a moment of disbelief for Figueroa, experiencing his first professional defeat and his first loss since 2014, when Shakur Stevenson defeated him in the USA Youth National Championships as an amateur.

If this is a push game, Figueroa won. He used all his strength for pushing and his punching accuracy and power is not there.
Figueroa simply received too many punches on his chin that his brain may have been addled into weak thinking, but it should have been a draw for his consistent aggressiveness and output, too.
Should have been Figueroa n Inoue would have been more competitive not just Fulton realizing he was the Hype.Job!😂
