I noticed something at the end where he is wearing the Pearl shirt. He is involving his thumb a lot. Almost moving the fulcrum behind his thumb so that small movements of his index finger and/or thumb create a modified push pull. That's probably why he can play on a pillow or water with brushes. He creates his own rebound in a way that doesn't use much energy and very little movement.
You've got it right: he's actually not moving his hands at all because he instills fear in the drums. So, as he makes the drums tremble in fear, he just holds the sticks close and takes advantage.
Dude, in the absolute best way possible, I'm not a drum guy, not remotely interested in who can drum how and you just entertained the everliving crap out of me! Loved seeing your love of awesome technique. God bless you, man! 🥁
Physiologically - I think he has to turn off his muscles faster than most humans in order to get that fast. It's just not the muscle contraction, it's the relaxation phase that has to be so so so fast. That was very enjoyable to watch you react!
This comment is very accurate. Drumming speed is ultimately a function of genetics. Think of it like the autism spectrum, you have people at one who have profound difficulties dealing with people and communicating and relating to them and at the other extreme you have truly empathic people with high emotional intelligence who are formidable communicators and influencers. With the physiology of drumming you have people at the far end of the spectrum with cerebral palsy who cannot relax their muscles and there is even a treatment it using Botox to allow kids to walk better, and on the other end we have people like this guy who can contract and relax his muscles extremely fast. The build up of lactic acid is proportional to the ATP release so there Fore he must also be both very efficient in his movements to minimise work done plus very efficient in moving lactic acidosis away from the muscles being used. No matter how much the average drummer practices and no matter how good their technique, performance will fall along a probability distribution curve where those at the extreme speed end have by chance received all the genes in the right combination to make this speed possible.
He’s incorporating a controlled nervous twitch, basically. Tighten up certain muscles just right and the nerves just make them buzz. He’s perfected control of that. Awesome.

It’s so cool to see how you’ve branched into such a complete TH-cam channel. I remember seeing you play with Decrepit Birth in a lineup involving Rings of Saturn, Decapitated, & Fleshgod Apocalypse at The Whisky back in 2012 when I was 18 and it was one hell of a show.
You nailed it, Sam. Observing what this guy can do should light a fire under all of us students of drums, especially those of us who think we've reached our limit. Now I am highly motivated to shatter my obstacles.
I’ve never seen a guy play so many single strokes that the cameras frame rate interfered with how the strokes appear. Like helicopters that match frame rate to rotor speed so it looks like the rotor is stationary. So cool.
The scariest thing is how calm he is, like you said playing like butter lol. People go nuts on the drum kit and he's like sitting in Sunday Church while playing these insane beats and tempos Edit: High thought, I think his technique is something along the lines of two strokes with finger for the rebound and after the rebound of the second stroke is the wrist slamming it back down for the rebound for the finger technique again so three strokes in damn near a single rotation
His technique vaguely resembles Hannes Grossmann's "Hybrid" technique, though with lots of finger motion. Also his stick position changes slightly compared to Hannes'. It might seem subtle, but that little bit of wrist motion makes all the difference, especially in power, it's absolutely insane. Also, he's a very musical drummer that can apply phenomenal chops to the kit.
"Italian drummer, fastest hands on the planet, graduated at Conservatory, student of Mike Mangini (Dream Theater) in Boston." Well, that last bit certainly explains it.
If you properly tense the muscle group responsible for the hand, it will start to vibrate - you can control the frequency by gentle movement. He probably practiced it every day for many months. I practiced, because in some pc games you have to mash one key quite quickly - a useful trick
@@galaxya40s95 I don't know what you have to enter to find it properly. I figured it by myself when I had to mash "X" with hold ctrl to use cheat for gold in Warband (1000 gold for one x)
Though fingers may be involved, the whole support system for this is the wrist and the larger muscles in the arm, including the triceps and biceps. Mangini has been developing this technique for decades, and barehanded practice is an important part of developing it. Ricardo is obviously taking it to a new level!
Yeah this video is focusing on wrist or fingers, but it's more like a full-system, elbow shoulder muscle-twitch technique to get that fast. The control of it is the trick.

That's crazy. It's like he's not even moving anything and the sticks are going nuts. As a guy who started learning the drums I have a lot of appreciation for skilled drummers. I'm having a blast learning but man it's hard!
So, I’m taking lessons with the Drum Technique Academy and the hand technique was presented by Ricardo. A 4 week challenge called ‘4 Weeks to 340bpm’. It’s a rotation of the wrist. I can’t share the video as it is the Intellectual Property of DTA. But I’m currently practicing his technique at… 90bpm (😂😂😂)and struggling immensely!! But I can say that it is definitely in the wrist first. With a bit in the fingers. The development actually starts with your hand on the pad. Before even using a stick. The camera cannot even show how fast the wrist is actually moving. We mostly see the fingers. But it is mostly in the wrists.

Keep on making this kind of content. Music does not make sense on any logic scale and it is what makes us all human. Even if you have AI creating it, you still need a human to enjoy it.
he said that? Spencer sounds unoriginal and unfunny. Well, since so many people are brain dead and do not understand sarcasm, this comment is me pointing out the unoriginality and unfunniness of the original comment. Absolute morons.
It’s a very subtle what he’s doing. Keep an eye on his thumbs. I think he’s integrated some push-pull. He’s not relying much at all on the natural rebound of the pad for the up stroke because he used a brush on liquid with speed. No rebound there. Super human technique.
It's a certain way of tensing the muscles in the forearm. I have been developing similar techniques as a percussionist for the last 20 years. But only a video in which he explains his technique, showed me that if you turn the hand outward it goes even faster. What is very funny I discovered as a child is that if you tense the muscles that move the eyes in the same way you can make the whole world dance for you so fast. It also works for the basedrum, here it is the upper muscles of the thigh that are tightened in this way.
I learned the same thing as a kid with my eyes. I would freak people out making my eyes move side to side super fast. I can still do it almost 40 years later. I never learned how to do that with any other part of my body though.
He is using his fingers and his wrists just like his ankles he clearly understands the connection. His nervous system is apparently not hindered by doubt which causes hesitation. A concept well understood by Bruce Lee, his teacher and many other martial artists currently and historically. In fact there is a Chinese drummer who teaches similar finger/wrist techniques. One of his students is A-yeon. Riccardo you stomp ass my brother was a pleasure to see you do your thing.
It seems like wrist and finger technique coupled together. Probably the same technique El Estepario Siberiano is using. Check out his finger technique video. 🤘
Holy fuck... I've played drums for a while, I'm pretty good.... but what the fuck, I watch some of these dudes today and I swear they're from a different dimension. Not only fast as hell but accurate too....My brain can't even comprehend how these dudes get to this point. I sit here with my mouth gaped open ,,,, just , wtf.... 😲
Ok so at 2:23 you show some dude named Gory…..did they take him off the game cuz he’s not there atm. I’m completely addicted to RAID I literally play 24/7……no seriously, I do.
I am completely blown away. I somehow found this vid and I am sending it to every drummer I have ever played with. There are truly no words. Incredible. Thank you for the vid and Blessings from Kansas~ Wow.............
Well, my son and I have a fast twitch ability that looks nearly identical to this guy. It comes down to a perpetual flex of the tricep and controlling a tiny up and down motion. I figured out that I could do it in the 80's playing Nintendo pressing buttons really fast and now, he's even faster and better than I playing games today. I was a drummer too in the early 90's and played pretty fast, but I didn't have this guy's consistency.
I saw Riccardo live almost 15 years ago in Varese with Mr Pig. They told me the drummer was top notch but my jaw dropped so fast that it bounced back in my ass. I can only say he's definitively NOT fake.
If we trained drummers young and right from the beginning finger technique….many more would get there….reminds me of classical guitarists and violinists.
I mean this as a compliment, but you seem like the amalgamation of Weird Al and Professor Dave wrapped in a metal exterior. Just discovered your channel. Really enjoying the videos and the music you’ve released.
I used to play marching snare and my intuitions say it’s mostly fingers with a certain wrist movement that he’s not completely sharing or explaining. I think it’s mostly fingers but still... he’s insane wow
I know they programmed their drums for the album's but they had a live drummer. The Berzerker was some fast shit and completely insane single stroke blasts, for instance reality! What a drummer this guy is!
I figured how to do it after half an hour of trying. Flex all muscles in the arm to 100%, this will make your arm shake really fast. But, make sure to stretch a ton, cause it hurts like hell.

4:22 Yuya from Viscera Infest can blast at 340 bpm. He may not be as precise but he's still a beast
Yes plus he doesn't use a trigger for his snare because he doesn't need it.
@@dappomb6523 yep he hits hard
@@whatcolorisdeath1266 Triggers aren't necessarily about volume, but being able to differentiate each strike at such high speeds.
“He just threw the sticks away…. WITH HIS HANDS!”
HEAL TOE NOW!!!!
It seems like wrist and finger technique coupled together. Probably the same technique El Estepario Siberiano is using. Check out his finger technique video. 🤘
What about Buddy Rich? I’ve seen videos of him drumming, and he’s pretty fast too. I don’t think he gets enough credit.
Not enough credit? He's constantly up there in "greatest drummers of all time" types of lists.
"HE'S BLASTING THE WAAARTEH!"
Always so happy, can’t help but feel better 😊
Holy fuck... I've played drums for a while, I'm pretty good.... but what the fuck, I watch some of these dudes today and I swear they're from a different dimension. Not only fast as hell but accurate too....My brain can't even comprehend how these dudes get to this point. I sit here with my mouth gaped open ,,,, just , wtf.... 😲
I remember a snare player once said about another pro player: "sometimes a guy just has another gear."
You get good at something, anything, maybe you get really good. Then you see the best in the world and think, "why do I even do this?"
lmao the way the drumsticks move remind me of the rubber pencil trick everyone did in middle school
The dude's drumsticks are going as fast as effing hummingbird wings....
Incredible. Thank you for the vid and Blessings from Kansas~ Wow.............
thank YOU Steve!
A lot of idiots will say that it is speed up. As a drummer, i can confirm that he is indeed playing 420 bpm.
You’re the funnest to watch!!! I freaking love you
thank you Kimberly!!!
I saw Riccardo live almost 15 years ago in Varese with Mr Pig. They told me the drummer was top notch but my jaw dropped so fast that it bounced back in my ass.
I can only say he's definitively NOT fake.
The absolute biggest mystery is how this dude managed to get an E-kit to respond that fast lol
Was thinking the same thing, my edrum would never detect this machine gun assault hahahaha
'But, can he play a blues shuffle?' LOL! AMAZING and with groove!
If we trained drummers young and right from the beginning finger technique….many more would get there….reminds me of classical guitarists and violinists.
When you witness something so mind blowingly incredible, all you can manage is a loud goofy ass laugh 😅
Dude this is amazing 🎉 much love❤
his girlfriend loves him
He needs to get together with the Slo-Mo guys and have his technique recorded.
4:12 I think he just Creamed dude 😂
WOW! I am blown away . This dude is SICK!!
Someone needs to get him in front of a high speed camera to see exactly how he is doing that.
I wanted to start drumming. Never mind, I'm getting a beerXD
This shit is incredible. Nuts. Did you ever see that buddy rich impossible solo video? One of the craziest things I ever saw. He looked old in it too.
I know they programmed their drums for the album's but they had a live drummer. The Berzerker was some fast shit and completely insane single stroke blasts, for instance reality! What a drummer this guy is!
Yep Gary Thomas was phenomenal for The Berzerker. Some of the stuff on Dissimulate blows my mind to this day!
I figured how to do it after half an hour of trying. Flex all muscles in the arm to 100%, this will make your arm shake really fast. But, make sure to stretch a ton, cause it hurts like hell.
Lol that’s how I hit buttons in Mario party faster than my friends.
You rock dude. You are very entertaining to watch and I appreciate your humility to the talent you witnessed. Thanks for doing this video.
thank you Jonas!!
It looks like 70% wrist twitch, 30% finger tech.
