    Have you seen the enhancement Paul Sellers makes to those HF clamps by cutting stock to size and inserting them in the clamps' channels? Worked amazingly well for me.
    Also as soon as you said red oak, I felt like a dog with its hackles raised in response to a threat. I'd rather work Hickory.

    Just watched an older video of yours where you showed the Stanley 45. I have one I would like to sell. It probably needs a fine tuning, but it is all in there. Also have two older planes I would include. If you know someone looking for one just let me know. I would like to trade for a Triton Router 1.2 HP 880 amps. Probably an unusual request, but that is how we get anywhere in life. You probably don't know but I have been a long- time subscriber.

    Why not move the bar clamps to near the edge, and use them as the cauls... and you can buy 4x4s.... you wear my out just watching you saw boards...

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using boards or clamps as cauls does not provide a significant amount of clamping pressure to pull the joints down together. I find that using the hand clamps is a far superior method that provides a really nice glue joint.

    Clamps.. never enough, unless you're looking for a place to park your thingymebob for a bit, then those stupid clamps are in the way again. So any n clamps is 1 clamp short of what you need and n-1 too many at the same time.

    Any particular reason you clamp the table top in the vise for jointing the edges, rather than clamp it to the face of the bench? Standing on that stool seems a good way to lose power and risk falling over when jointing a long edge.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My bench isn't as long as the board is so clamping it alongside the bench wouldn't do anything more than what I have here. Also it's resting flat on the ground so all of the weight is down in the rubber flooring. No amount of pushing with a plane is going to make that twist or turn or fall over. It's about a solid as a rock lol

    This is fantastic work, and great pleasure to watch. Not trying ot be obtuse, but your plane irons sound like they could use some sharpening. Or is it the nature of working with red oak? I've been mainly working with cherry adn some walnut, and the harmonics sounded a bit off. Thanks for sharing! :)

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup. It is a bit of both. Oaks have a lower tone. But for a lot of this work I let the irons get a bit duller as it is not finish work. For the finish something later it is a different story.

    I cut a straight line. Well, it was a straight line on the side of the board I was looking at. It was slanted and wandered like a drunken sailor on the other side. I admire your skills, but it is to the table saw if I want a straight cut on both the facing side and the other for me.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you got half of the skill down. The other half is all about arm alignment. If your shoulder, elbow, wrist and saw are all in a perfect line and the saw is set up well then the back side will take care of itself. But if any one of those are out then so is the backside lol

    Parallel clamps are not well suited to extreme forces necessary for laminating strength. They have other uses, for minor bench holding, and for keeping ends of boards together. Large G clamps or sliding Bessey clamps exert much more pressure.

  • @Win52D
    @Win52D ปีที่แล้ว

    You may have done it already but making a wood core for the HF clamps improves them quite a bit. Paul Sellers has a video on how to do it.
