  • If you're a Course student, you've likely approached the Holy Spirit many more times than you have approached a conversation with God.
    "Ask the Holy Spirit."
    "Turn it over to the Holy Spirit."
    These are such common phrases in practice, but we still see a lot of confusion around who and what He (Holy Spirit) is.
    In this episode of Exploring A Course In Miracles, Robert Perry and Emily Bennington discuss the basic questions to help viewers gain a more complete understanding of the Holy Spirit.
    How did He come into being?
    What does He do in our lives?
    What is His relationship to God and Jesus?
    We hope you enjoy the episode and strengthen your relationship with both the Holy Spirit and the Course itself.

    I like that the Holy Spirit mediates between illusion and truth. He can see our illusion and therefore knows how to guide us back to truth.

    When we merely “turn things over to the Holy Spirit,” we are not carrying the load/ doing the work (of the lessons) to elevate ourselves to the level of Jesus where we are capable & inspired to live as true minions or Angels of God. If we truly desire to operate here in union with God, so that we, not only make the right decisions, but impart true grace in the world, we have to re-program our minds using the lessons provided. Only then, will we have the proper foundation to act Holy (like Jesus & Mrs. Albertson.)

    I would like to make one point on the issue of „Voice for“ vs „Voice of“. You say in the FIP last edition all the „Voice of“s were changed to „Voice for“. Before this change both were rather equal in numbers (round about 20 each).
    But if we include „God‘s Voice“ plus „His Voice“ in our consideration,which both have the same meaning as „Voice of God“, we get another picture. These two expression together are round about 95 in count. So this meaning of the Holy Spirit as „Voice of God“ remains still very prominent even in the FIP edition. The numbers I used are only from the Textbook, Workbook and Manual! What do you think?

    • @CircleOfAtonement
      @CircleOfAtonement  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Antonius! Thank you for your thoughtful comment. We did not include references to "God's Voice" or "His Voice" in the count because they can be taken either way. In other words, we cannot assume "God's Voice" or "His Voice" automatically mean "voice of God." Thus we only counted the specific references where the Course itself makes a distinction. Hope that helps. xx

      I stick with you Antonius because to me they ALL mean the very same and they ALL testify for the REALITY of the Holy Spirit.
      The REAL question is not what Phrase is used but how to have accurate real Communion with this Divine REALITY, let oneself be willingly transformed by it, to not mistake the Ego for the Holy Spirit etc....

    What about this section from the text which calls the HS “symbolic”.
    “The Holy Spirit is a difficult concept to grasp precisely because it is symbolic and therefore open to many different interpretations. As a man and as one of God's creations, my right thinking, which came from the Universal Inspiration which is the Holy Spirit, taught me first and foremost that this Inspiration is for all.”
    Then there’s this, again in the text:
    “The Holy Spirit is nothing more than your own right mind.”
    One last but very important point is that many a times I’ve given my concerns to the HS but the issues did not get resolved until I was convinced that they would be resolved without my involvement in formulating any solutions. Then they'd be resolved but not until I became 100% convinced that the HS would resolve them for me. This reminds me of what Jesus said in Mark 11:24:
    "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
    My understanding is that the HS is our right mind and His ability to help us depends upon our "full belief” that He has already resolved our issues that we’ve given Him. So it feels more like He is our right mind to me. And arguably this process of involving the HS in resolving our sick perceptions is more like being in our original state. There are references in the Course of the Mind being abstract in Its natural state. So resolving a sick perception without getting involved with any specifics seems like an abstract way of handling it.
    Using an analogy, I think of the idea of separation as a "mind virus" that got into our minds and caused a split but at that very instant, God created and placed the anti-virus which is the Holy Spirit into the infected part of our minds. In other words, God split the split part of our minds in order to give It back Its original and natural powers as a way of healing It.
    I’d be curious to hear others’, especially Robert’s/Emily’s perspectives on this.

      We came to believe that the two references you cite about the Holy Spirit here are what Jesus called "scribal error." They come near the beginning of the dictation about the Holy Spirit, before the term had fully settled into a single mode. Here is what we put in the Editing Notes of our edition, the Complete and Annotated Edition of the Course:
      “The Holy Spirit is the foundation of your right mind” was “The Holy Spirit is nothing more than your own right mind.” The change we have made here is the first of a number of changes made to the original references to the Holy Spirit. Some of the early references describe the Holy Spirit as an “it” that is merely “symbolic” and “is nothing more than your own right mind.” Yet, in these same sections, the Holy Spirit is also often called “He” and is described as a creation of God, Who is therefore eternal and will still exist after the passing away of the separation (and by implication, after the passing away of the right mind in favor of pure knowledge). For example, “But what God creates is eternal. The Holy Spirit will remain with the Sons of God” (T-5.II.12:6-7).
      There is obviously a tension here, in that an “it” that is only symbolic and is just our own right mind is different than a “He” Who was created by God and is therefore eternally real. Soon after these early references to the Holy Spirit, the Course switches permanently to referring to the Holy Spirit as a “He” created by God. (There are at least eighteen explicit references in the Course to the Holy Spirit being created by God.) This makes the “it” references an anomaly present only at the very beginning of the flow of dictation about the Holy Spirit.
      The most likely explanation, then, is that these are some kind of glitch in the dictation process, perhaps due to Helen’s resistance to the term “Holy Spirit.” This fits with Ken Wapnick’s claim that “Helen was nervous about the phrase ‘Holy Spirit’” and that this distorted some of her early scribing on that subject (Ken Wapnick, “The History of the Manuscripts of A Course in Miracles,” accessed November 15, 2014, www.facimoutreach.org/qa/questions/ACIM_Manuscript_History.pdf, p. 4). As a result, we have changed these references to make them consistent with the rest of the Course, which the FIP version also does. In fact, this correction process in many cases began as Helen dictated the Notes into the Urtext. So there was a recognition very early on that something was amiss with some of the early language about the Holy Spirit.

      @@CircleOfAtonement If I maybe a bit pushy and exploit your being willing to respond to questions, I’d love to hear your perspective about the experience I mentioned above where my giving my concerns to the HS doesn’t seem to resolve them till I bring myself to 100% certainty that He has resolved them. Is this degree of certainty required for Him to resolve our issues? Thanks again for your kind responses.

    • @CircleOfAtonement
      @CircleOfAtonement  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@samuresin It helps for sure, but is not required at all. To your point though, the Song of Prayer supplement says “True prayer must avoid the pitfall of asking to entreat. Ask, rather, to receive what is already given; to accept what is already there.”

    • @samuresin
      @samuresin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CircleOfAtonement Thanks again. I totally agree with your point about true prayer but as you mentioned in one of your episodes, prayer is like a ladder and it’s hard not to be specific if we perceive the situation as challenging.
      I find these seemingly small nuances, such as the correction to the scribal error you referred to in your original response to be very important. It’s hard enough to understand the concepts of the Course and practice them under ego’s constant interference.
      I believe I was reading the text for the third time when I noticed the word “only” where Jesus mentions that hearing “only” the Holy Spirit was the last thing he accomplished. Without the word “only” it means something totally different and my ego was trying to convince me that even Jesus didn’t hear the HS most of the time. I suspect my ego is a bit more aggressive than others’. At least it feels that way.
      Again, thank you very much for your kind responses.

      I don’t and won’t refer to God or Holy Spirit in gendered terms, at least not w/o also including feminine pronouns. I’d rather refer to them by their names or “it.” Only including the masculine pronouns is antiquated and just unnecessary and increasingly divisive.

    • @martinwagner7361
      @martinwagner7361 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@aminaallen7557 One can do that but the higher & deeper Practice to me is to understand Language as twice removed dead symbols for a living Reality and rather give up attachment to it then focusing once more upon strenghtening one's Investment in Duality....
      Because as one can quite easily see to be busy changing pronouns from He to She to it is just the same splitting off done by the EGO.
      At one time the divisive Ego became obsessed with the polarity of the genders and Feminism was the Dead End Road as it certainly didn't bring ANY real peace nor harmony between the genders but just more strife, abuse & conflict.
      There's a TOTALLY DIFFERENT way whether one comes from divisive Ego of Feminism (making the Error real and essentially going to war with the male gender increasing ACTUALLY gender abuse) or whether one comes from a deep sense of Unity & Love for All and from THAT Level of Unity and NOT Conflict advocating Equality.
      That's not just semantics but an UTMOST different Level of Consciousness. Feminism doesn't even calibrate on the Level of plain Integrity on the scale of Consciousness as it is SOLELY EGO.
      And now splitting Ego found its very next toy with transgender wanting to Split off and it SURELY won't ever bring any peace or happiness either.
      And soon Aliens or Human/Robot Hybrids are going to further Split off from the underlying Unity in the Agenda of EGO as the WAR of Ego with immense collateral damage is crippling Society more & more.
      The real Holy Spirit doesn't even see the "Problem" that ONLY the Ego could ever perceive.
      And no real Solution is EVER possible with this conflicting Mindset as the Ego is very clever in hiding its sumtotal cost & suffering and all its endless Charade of ideological -isms.
      As soon as one uses words & thoughts one is not in a living Awareness with true Reality but a dead mentalisation of it.
      So why being caught up with symbols since Spirit can never be described truly by he, she or it ?
      Jesus is constantly pleading with words to go beyond all words.
      Because they are all equally meaningless & deceptive & incapable of touching or describing reality. If one's Peace depends upon what illusive symbol one uses one SURELY doesn't have the Peace beyond all understanding, beyond all meaningless symbols.
      I just point that Truth out for clarification because I unfortunately witness soo many Acim students still being so highly identified with making up their particular EgoVersion of the Course....
      I'm almost certain that soon we will have "A Course in Miracles" for Transgenders....
      That's not at all trivial or minor misperception but the very Core one of beLIEving to be a separate Person...
      The fundamental Delusion from where all individuaHELLity came into existence.
      Ego doesn't mean at ALL to be a bad selfish person....it means the false beLIEf to be a Person at all.
      For as long as one believes they are a male or female or transgender person they live in complete Delusion and they thus CAN'T escape Fear.
      Of course it's a deep process to give up the deep rooted illusion to be a Person but at some point one MUST be willing to give that identification up or one will be simply STUCK on that Level.
      That doesn't make it a crime or a sin but one should be clear & aware about that....
      Most Acim Teachers never went through that process for themselves and THEREFORE are unable to really teach it and thus they "teach" the Course from the plain Level of Ego WITHOUT ANY real Authority on the deeper Process and therefore the almost completely blind are pretending to be able to lead the completely blind...
      Sad state as one can hopefully understand now...there is a very rare amount of people who can with true own Authority guide one through the whole process and they ALL have a deepest Communion with the Holy Spirit that can be truly identified, tested & experienced.
      Though we are all one essentially we certainly are all on very different levels of realisation of that Atonement and very few people have reached a Level of deepest transformative Power just by their Presence simply because very few want to ALLOW the Holy Spirit full Transformation to undo the I, me & mine completely.
      While almost ALL just want a less painful more joyful Ego....
      Which - ultimately - just doesn't work out too well simply because the Holy Spirit won't ever serve an Ego and won't ever submit Himself to it nor ever empower it no matter how much one tries...
      The deeper Communion with the Holy Spirit is given ONLY & EXCLUSIVELY to those who not only fully commit themselves to total Transformation but also PASS the many Tests of true full Surrender to God & the Holy Spirit along the way...
      Hope I could make this somewhat clear....🤗
