Was fortunate enough to learn and see this at class this weekend (along with everything else), simple and effective trap with minimal carving or cordage required. Watching these videos and actually getting out in the woods and doing it are two different things though, and I’d rather learn it now from someone who knows than have to try and learn it on my own the hard way! The satisfaction of sourcing the materials from the land, carving and setting the traps (and getting the information, history and stories along the way), and then actually testing the traps was awesome. Couldn’t recommend Joel and American Survival Co. more, down to earth guy, wealth of knowledge and easy to learn from.
One thing I'd do is add to upright poles to guide the log straight down and maybe add some logs on the main one to give it a little weight quicker trap
It was the only " snare " type trap used it seemed---- even on 200 lb wild pigs ( We supplied them with steel cable.for pigs !) You said " McPherson " as in my ol VN Army Pal " John - Praire Wolf " in Kanas ?
Tell him ol USN 59- 82 SERE POW Inst . Mtn Mel is a- ok & well in W. Colo. I taught John a couple VN man traps, ha I did 75-78 at Navy jungle JEST with Negritos. GREAT duty !

Nice idea - a mod to the P.I. jungle trap " Tredal Snare " that our Negrito Troopers used in 1967-68

Hmmm, like your idea/ demo. but thinking it could be smoothed out just a little bit , plus better lighting
