I don't understand why anyone IS surprised about these results. Intel has had nearly ZERO competition from AMD since at least 2011, so very little innovation/ improvements were made on their CPUs. They just raped us consumers on pricing and we had no choice but to take it and smile. It is only with the release of Ryzen that Intel was finally forced to compete. That's why I still use my i7 2600k although I may upgrade to Ryzen 3 next year if the rumors of their potential performance are true.

Why are so many complaining on that it's not an "Apples to Apples" compairison and that the price on the xeon (when it was released) was way higher then what the newer cpus are now. Well, of course they are. What he is trying to say (from what I believe) is that Intel actually made a cpu back in 2013 that compairs fairly good to the BEST consumer grade cpu in 2018. Ain't that worth talking about? In my opinion, that shows that the CPUs have not excelled as much as you can think.

The 1% low on GTA is due to its engine, after 180fps it tends to "lock up" , somewhere around low/even 5ms frametime causes this. If you lock up on MSI afterburner to 170fps, those 1% lows improve greatly.

    So glad you posted this series of videos. I've been running a R4BE and 1680v2 since 2015 with 64GB 2400 @ 9-11-11-28-2T ripjawz V.
1680v2s are going for $170 on eBay right now!!!
    A few tips:
Try the 125 strap and set voltage to manual instead of offset. Start at 1.4, go straight to 4.7 GHZ, if not stable back it down to 4650.
Then start knocking vcore down until you hit instability, and raise it back up .05v. For me this is 1.372vcore.
Lower PLL, don't raise it. It creates a lot more heat and limits OC. Below are my CPUs stable voltages in the bios:
    Vcore 1.36
    VTT: 1.05
    VTT2nd: 1.05
    PLL: 1.7
    VCCSA: 1.25
    LLC: High
    Bclk Skew: -3
    Bclk: 130
    Passmark: 20680 CPU
In 2020 there's STILL no compelling reason to upgrade if 8c/16t if enough for your workflow (which it is for the vast majority of users).
EK monoblock keeps it from 53c - 58c lowest and highest core in cinebemch R20.
It will run a 4850mhz if I throw voltage at it, but, no reason to do so.

@@lucasrem because, its a drop in replacement.
another point, recc ddr3 1866 is dirty cheap, 64gb quad channel for less then 32gb dual channel of ddr4, and equal or better bandwidth, its also possible to get cheap, but quite serviceable chinese x79 and x99 boards, but, the 1680v2 ddr3 or 4, is a very powerful chip, so dropping one into a system thats already up and running, is a good idea, a very cheap upgrade, thats got an unlocked multi to boot... should be very easy to get 4.5 or so even on a fairly meh board....
again, its about how much people have to spend, give it another year or 2 and recc ddr4 will be dirt cheap and those platforms will be a decent choice..for now a 1650 v2 or 1680 v2 would be an amazing upgrade to any 2011 system, if you can run recc ram, omg... 64-128gb dirty fucking cheap...quad channel...(even 2133 can be had for better prices then ddr4 counterparts sadly..)
anyway, for now alot of us, like myself, are looking at this stuff because are poor and dont want a side grade, but would like to move up in every way we can, even if we also endup having to use an audio card and usb3 add-in card, im actually ok with that... should be fine... and cheaper then moving up to ddr4, for now, in 1-2 years the ddr4 options will start to actually stand out as 'hey, that might work nice'

I seen you had this board before so wandering what you did (cpu used) and if there is a way as I have the WILL / if there is, I just need instructions.... I really hope this is not true that I can not run the 12 core 2696 or 2697 v2 in my x79 Assassin 2... If so, I will NEVER buy a Gigabyte product again as this will be so many times now (3 for me alone, VisionTEK is BEST at long updates for years and AMD, JetWay as well as Supermicro, GO FIGURE!) that Gigabyte crippled their own product (After taking our money) with its EOL bios update or any software was just sort of abandoned whilst all the other boards of the same GEN/Chipset/Grade, run these cpu's just fine, as they should as it is NOT hardware limited but SOFTWARE! #GRRRRRR .... I hope you have the answer as I saw you in a random video with the Giga Assassin 2 and it took me so long to get all the kinks out of this board and when ready to flip this CPU to something better finally - I hit a wall with what I am reading ONLINE from people actually trying it however I know sometimes answers do exist from other languages or counties online somewhere or even hidden on the web somewhere..... #PleaseHELP as love XEONS and running older cpu's as well as the Super good build of this board (tough) even down to the GREEN color of the pcie lanes, etc..... Great timing. I want to build a LGA 2011 PC for weeks. This video proved this is the best platform for my purpose. Cheap overclockable Xeons and dozens of pcie lanes and quad channel memory.
My plans are building a 'two gamer one pc' like linux-windows vm - linux for desktop and running servers 7/24, windows for gaming.
I just bought 8*8 GB RAM for ~100 USD, and now I have to find a cheap workstation with 8 DIMM and many many pcie slots.

Its not that easy to overclock. Brian had an original used x79 motherboard not one of the Chinese knockoffs they sell all over the place. If you have an authentic board then your lucky.
But the chinese mobo or workstation/server boards won't be able to OC. And authentic used boards cost around $250 USD.

Kurtis Rinker I think both platforms made a big jump in performance... the only reason you can’t see it is because all CPU benchmarks on TH-cam are tested on Ultra settings which invalidates all of the results as GPU becomes a bottleneck. Notice how there’s a 5-10 FPS difference when gpu usage is at 99% but suddenly when you play CS:GO with 60% gpu usage there’s nearly 200fps (even if you convert it to % it’s still huge)

The Xeon compared to the i9 is only 15% price difference with MSRP for 5 years. But the performance average on these stats show an avg. of 9%-21% gain of FPS (only Intel). But based on only a 4.2% increase of (FPS / year(s)) based on given GPU used) performance per year of performance it's hard to justify making a switch if the older Xeon 1680 is keeping up somewhat with lower FPS but very playable (my bias opinion). Though I know you could play games on older hardware as this channel has shown, I'm not an avid gamer, so I'd like older systems for server use like my i7 4770k that's not that old but has a new life as a VMware ESXI server.

I agree with what you said about the 1080 TI 100% it just isn't common is all.
1440p is only at 4% and 4K at under 2% on steam. Enthusiasts are buying the top tier gear because they are into gear not necessarily gaming. Or you would see steam with higher numbers on top end hardware but you don't.
Intel isn't KING because they win at enthusiasts systems. That is just marketing. They are king because they dominate OEM systems. Both home, education, and corporate not to mention servers. No one gets fired for buying Intel. Intel doesn't have to sell 1 processor to the consumer if it didn't want. It would make no difference to their bottom line. Ok, so any one planning on a 1680 v2 on an unbranded mb, don't waste your money, I just dropped a 1680v2 in my 1650v2 with very slight gains. As far as overclocking goes, it won't let me oc past 3.9ghz, I was running my 1650v2 at 4.1ghz. A 1700x still scores higher, and my money would have been better spent in that direction. Update:even tho I couldn't increase the oc on the 1680v2, it did seem to perform better than the 1650v2 oc'd. I have the parts ordered for a 2700x, after bios update will probably drop in a 3900x when their prices settle down where they should be.

Hello Tech YES, good test. As for the IPC, remember that current lineup is just Skylake with more cores, so the IPC did not improve at all since 2015. Well anyway, if you are seeking the CPU with highest gaming IPC, get an I7-5775C. That one thanks to its 128MB of Edram L4 is absolute monster in games, battling with 5Ghz Coffee-lake while running on 4Ghz. Shame its overclock is pretty bad and usually stalls around 4,2Ghz, but still even there the gaming performance is monstrous.

Feels bad having built a new desktop. Overclocking is the only fun thing to do. Benchmark scores. Woo...
    New games are garbage.

I spend about 15% of my time in games just changing settings. Its weird but ill switch from ultra down to like high-med just see. Or droped to res from 1440p to 1080p

Good rule of thumb is to run at 80 percent scale of your resolution. Will look just as good but performance will be much better

What has changed is that nowadays you can buy a CPU that is comparable to a Xeon of 5 years ago at a fraction of the price (Thanks to AMD). Hey Bryan how about Spectre & meltdown patches for these old cpus and x58/79/99 mobo? Are they protected?? didn't you need firmware Bios/Uefi patch for one of the two?

Hello tech yes city. I bought x3440 with mobo (no brand, just p55) that does not supports overclocking. Is there any way to overclock or I'm idiot that bought bad motherboard?

Anyone who reads this have any experience with the e5-2630 v2 in regards to gaming performance. For the price *at the time 29.99 usd, now 36.99* it's a hell of a deal I thought and for the most part it works amazing on most games. However it is clocked at 2.9ghz all cores and locked and in a lot of titles the single core and low frequency really drag's the fps down. I am wondering if it would be an upgrade *for gaming* to go with a e5-1620 standard not v2 and try overclocking it. I will be losing out of 6 cores and now 4 but im wondering if the higher clock speeds would benifit or if it just would be about the same. the 1620 run's about 30 usd on aliexpress which is actually cheaper then the 2630v2 that I have. I am using the plexhd x79t board also and I won't be able to increase voltage only multipliers so I believe the highest I will hit is 4-4.2ghz. thanks in advance. I may end up just buying it to try myself but any input would be great! thanks!

well i hope you made up your mind by now, but the e5 1620 is basically a 2600K on a larger socket so it would still be a super solid performer for most games and tasks.

This is going to be relevant after the Ryzen 3000 series landing. That will really shake up the used market.
Commanding such a large premium price is insane!
To me, AMD is just merciful, for no reason... Just imagine what an Athlon 320ge (4 cores) with a full fat Navi can bring to the table.

Tech Yes, what about a comparison of hexacore CPU's (1650 v2 vs ryzen 5 vs i7 8700k). This could be very popular due to the much more readily available and affordable stock of used x79 6-core cpu's.

Is 4,6 GHz a top tier bin, or is it achievable on most of them?

I was well excited to find all this out, until I jumped on ebay and noticed that the average price for a 1680-v2 seems to be higher than the 9900k costs :P

I feel like we havent improved in clockspeed department but in core count which is not the best thing though, apps, games needs to be optimized for more cores but cpu with higher clockspeed doesnt need any tweaks from devs to gain max possible performance boost.
