Cool, cool, cool! Those products (ACR, Lightroom, Photoshop) become better and better, which is fantastic! I just used the Curve in mask (sky selection) few days ago and I figured out to get the nice blue colour of the sky in my pictures, something very close with what I saw on location. My camera captured a blue-gray sky color due of light condition, dynamic range etc. Maybe I could do it before this update as well, but now I did it much quicker and easier!

Great review. The curves inside the mask is important for getting more control especially on individual colors. Shame it is not in Lightroom.

Matt, Thanks for your immediate response and helping eliminate a variable that I though was resulting from me using PC Win10. I'm thinking now I probably need to subscribe to the $20.00 a month for the PhotoShop with Creative Cloud instead of just the Photoshop Plan $10.00 a month. I can't get many of your edits to work correctly with my plan. For example, I notice many of the responses involve the Shift + Delete command not working.

There is one more big feature that's been added to Photoshop/ACR and that's the new HDR display feature. Greg Benz has a video on it. Right now it's only for Mac users that have a specific computer and monitor. I think you have to have one of those really expensive HD monitors for it to work.
After upgrading to 2023 on a windows machine. The shift delete doesn't work with automatic content-aware filling. It is shift backspace and you have to choose in the pop-up menu what you want. I'm going true the preferences now, to see if a direct action can be assigned for content-aware filling. Would be nice because it saves a lot of time, for the kind of work I do.
the camera raw mask thing is awesome
Matt K I think you came to HCC (Houston Community College) well over a decade ago to show off CS6 or CS7, it might have been someone else, but I remember people pretty well. If it is you and you remember being here, great to see you still doing what you love and loving what you do! Looking forward to all the advancements for all apps in 2023. Wish we could get Fresco for Android devices *wink* *wink* :)

Matt, Thanks for your video. I am confused because as I look at your sample bird pic, I notice, up above, it is ID as a portrait PSD save. None of the uploads directly as RAW are working for me with your commands. Do I need to save all the images as PSD before I try and edit them?
I found that fill with content-aware doesn't work with shift delete on windows. Instead, it is shift backspace, after that, you get an option box where you can select content-aware. Shift delete gives background color instantly.
Adobe should pause adding all these features so I can catch up. Great review.
Shift+delete is not working for me. It fills the area with solid white.
I have Photoshop and Lightroom on a 2020 Macbook Pro and a PC with Windows 11. I've just updated both on my Macbook and my PC. The Object Selection Tool in Photoshop is there on my PC but for some reason it's not on the updated version on my Macbook. All the new features in Lightroom are there on both machines. Any ideas on what's happened?
What are the chances of having the neural filters be completely offline to hopefully speed up the process? Or alternatively, be completely online via cloud to speed them up?
They need to protect their technology. Example "select subject" - the newest version of that is on the cloud. The ability to select areas of the image seems to be all over the place in non-adobe apps now. This is evidence to me, that it's likely been stolen by third-parties.
Is "fill & delete" different than just pressing SHIFT + F5 and then filling with content-aware fill?

I want the Shake reduction feature back. or a substitute for shake reduction. because the shake reduction feature really helps me at work

Matt, can you add chapters to you videos? I often come back to them to look for secific features and chapters would save me seeking through the video :).
What version of Photoshop is this? Do I need to install the BETA version for 2023? Thanks
If I delete and fill by right clicking it works OK, but if I use Shift Delete it fills with white (background colour). I've reset the tool. I am buggered if I am going to reset Preferences at this stage. I am not sure what is going on. Does Shift Delete only work with Mac systems?
I wish they would put the HSL panel with the masking features. That would be cool.
We already have most of it right? We have Hue and we have Saturation. In my experience very few people used the Lightness option but that’s the only one missing.

For me selecting an object and pressing shift+delete does not work. It removes the object but does not fill it, it leaves a white area. Any tips on how to resolve this?
I have a Mac Mini M2 with 16 gig of Ram. How do I setup Photoshop and Lightroom Classic to properly use RAM and Processors? I mainly use Lightroom Classic, but sometimes send a file to Photoshop to edit. I rarely use over 5 layers when I do. I have a 24 MP camera and shoot RAW. Thank you!
Hi. I don't know of anyone that deviates from the default settings so I'm not sure you'll find a lot of info on it. Best I can suggest is some online research and trial and error as there is no right answer or best practice.
Suddenly the "Content aware fill" is greyed out when I click right click inside a selected area. Is there a different way to access the Content aware fill? I think the shortcut is Ctrl+F5 but that does nothing. Any idea? (Help please, can't work !)
crop & straighten doesn't work for me for the same image
When I installed the new 2023 version a number of my plug ins on my filter menu are no longer available. I have tried re downloading and installing them but still they do not integrate with PS 2023. I had to uninstall it and stick with 2022 where all my plug ins (Luminar 4, Topaz Studio 2 and many others.) Anyone else have this problem getting the third party plug ins to install in the filter list?
Using the ACR People mask and for example, changing lipstick color, is there any way to go back later and change color. Seems like all changes are permanent.
Hi. You can always go back and change masks on the raw photo. If you use the Camera Raw Filter then changes are baked in as soon as you close it.
I tried selecting an object as you suggest but when I do Shift+delete, it fills the area with solid white every time. Any hints to what I've got set wrong such that it's doing that instead of content fill? Thanks so much! Great video!

No one seems to know what happened to the image processor in bridge, is it my version? But it’s not under tools anymore
I know you're adobe support, but is portrait AI in camera raw graphic card sensetive?
I get an error "unable to load portrait ai module" but all other masking stuff works fine. Any thoughts?

Hello Matt, when I point to an obeject in a photograph, I see it is selected. But when I use the combination of Shift+Delete, the selection is cutt out and that erea is white. What is going wrong? Thank you.

I do wish there was a simple way to soften some selections. Sometimes the selected subject looks too " crisp" against the background. Almost like a bad cut and paste.

@@MattKloskowski Better mixer brush like clip studio, maybe bring color themes back, color mixer window, things like that. Just feels like they made no upgrades for illustration purposes.

IMO, they seem to be putting more emphasis on tools such as neural filters, improved content aware, selection tools, etc, because they're hoping to appeal to professional graphic designers and photographers who use Photoshop in conjunction with Illustrator or Lightroom, etc. Those tend to be the people who can justify the expensive subscription service. As you probably know, Photoshop used to be a monolith when it came to digital illustration. It used to be my go-to program, eclipsing tools like Paint Tool SAI, FireAlpaca, Medibang, and the old Manga Studio. But gone are the days of Photoshop being the primary tool of digital illustrators. These new capabilities are cool but I honestly miss my love of CS6. Ofc Photoshop is still very popular due to the sheer volume of useful tools and versatility, but Clip Studio Paint has shown itself to be a fierce competitor who truly listen to their community. I hope Adobe takes a leaf out of their book at some point. I really like your suggestions, especially the colour mixer window. I think that integration of things like 3D models for pose reference would be great too! They'd also benefit from updating the preview capacity of their liquify tool. I mean, I love the warp tool in PS, but I far prefer both CSP and Procreate's liquify. Would be great to see any of these things worked on.

shift/del does not work....it's shift/bkspace to delete and fill
Look cool on this video, but after check it by myself with various photos I have to say that these selection options works lame :( In fact I cant make clear selection on any photo, even of people on solid, white background.
when I hit shift delete the object is removed but not filled. It's replaced by filling the space with white with the outline of the object still there. I have to use shift backspace and not delete
Matt is using Mac. So when he says “Shift Delete”, we, Windows users, have to translate it to “Shift Backspace” 😊

In the object selection tool, when the selection is done, I right click in the middle of the selection, but I don't find the fonction Delete and fill selection. What can I do to have it?

When I try to use the object selection Tool in Photoshop 2023 it is acting like the Lasso Tool and stalls my machine. Twice I have tried and yes I have rebooted my machine.

@@MattKloskowski Thanks for getting back to me so fast. So this time what I did was before bringing up my image, I opened the object selection tool and changed those two items on the top - as shown in the video and then brought up my image and it worked. It didn't crash. Before I was unable to get to make those changes before it crashed. So hopefully PS will remember when I use that tool again, I don't have to set those perimeters again.
Matt, Are you using strictly Apple? If so, I wish you would have mentioned that fact in your introduction. I know several of your hints are not working for me on a PC Win10.

Just discovered red that, with version 24.1, the delete and fill one-click option is now GONE! I hope Adobe brings it back - soon!

Hi Matt. Not impressed at all with the new update as it is not compatible with ios Catalina and is asking me to update my operating system to iOS Big Sur or above which my iMac is not capable of doing. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement 🤬
It's sad to see how Photoshop has changed in the last few years. They have completely abandoned digital painters and only focus on hardly usable gimmicks and filters. Can't even remember when I was excited about an update the last time.
I left photoshop after owning it since 1990. I refuse to pay a subscription for any software.
Strongly agreed! I've been using Photoshop for a long time but nowadays I've been using Clip Studio Paint more and more. The features are fantastic-in my opinion, it's the strongest competitor on the market. Their team are far more attuned to community wishes of digital painters than Adobe's, who seem far more focussed on photographers and non-illustrative graphic designers. Sure, PS is still a solid program: I use it for the bulk of my projects. However, I feel like that's 'cause I'm more familiar with it... it's really no surprise that our next generation of digital artists are learning on Procreate and CSP instead. I mean, even Paint Tool SAI is making a comeback! All driven by Adobe's barrier to entry in terms of subscription cost. Even the student subscription is far too high in my opinion. I miss the days when we could make a one-off payment...
@@tiredfrog308 Yeah. I'm on CSP for a while now as well. It has its own set of issues, but for the pure painting experience, it's much better. I have to disagree on the attention for community wishes though. Aside from their fails about the subscription model and the AI generator, they are just not interested in communication with the user base. There's not forum or any other way to interact with the developers or other users. It's basically reduced to Twitter which is less than ideal. And their "Feature Request" site is pretty useless as well. I've submitted a huge amount of suggestion for basic improvements, but none of them ever made it into any updates. Instead they focus too much on 3D stuff and less interesting features (at least for a basic digital painter). But still it's way better than PS.

Yet photography lives! I'm glad to see the tool I use the longest of all my professional pipeline, getting valuable updates.
I don't think Adobe (Photoshop) has innovative thinkers on their "update" teams. There is so much really valuable stuff going on that is just ignored. They just keep putting band-aids on things which already have work-arounds. Or adding simple organization stuff. But what about AI usage and creations, VR, and VR creation & editing, cloud related ideas, and more. That is where the real world is at or going. Then Facebook did not change their name to Meta or added an expensive Quest Pro for no reason. When Photoshop added full video support their developers were thinking ahead. In my opinion, that time has come again. The world is very close to just becoming one great big and giant computer. Adobe needs to start realizing that. Zuckerberg, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Amazon already have.
Adobe working so hard to earn this money.
