    I forgot to mention, that aside from the costly bill I'd get from FM, I'd have to give up my WTF Steep & Deep rails as I'm sure the controller would get replaced/updated to Haptic Buzz kill firmware. The rail angle is too steep to level with Custom Shaping 3.0, and I know it doesn't behave the same going in reverse. I much prefer having the board perfectly level in both directions, and not require it get up to speed before it starts leveling.

      I have been on VESC so long I forget about this issue. FM knows angled rails are a thing and they could easily add a calibrate button or offset setting. It's probably some stupid liability thing.

      wait for our GT controller replacement, it would allow you to have 200% more power and works perfectly with WTF rails, GT is kinda shit without a WTF rail to be honest, I constantly twist my outer side ankle riding stock GT, I just miss that tilt.

    Good info Steve. Thanks again.

      Certainly. It's definitely part of my routine now as well. Way too often I have hear ppl complain about nose dropping on them, and most the time I hear people to check the footpad sensor (which you should still do!) - but I don't hear people suggest to check the motor cable plug.

    I've been following your videos for a while but I missed this one. This was actually huge. Thanks for the PSA. I am already very anal about loading up on dielectric grease but I never even thought to make sure my connectors are clean before plugging in.

    Glad you are back on the wheel! I get to watch you ride all winter. Too much snow up here. Well I do use it in the winter a little..... I use my GT to take the garbage can up to the end of the driveway every week. but sadly no good rides till spring.

      Hehe, yea, we do our hibernating in the Summer here. Actually, I try to plan a few trips out to Cali to escape the heat and always drive so I can bring the boards. But ya, e do get a lot of snowbirds here in the winter, so if you are feeling desperate...the trails out here will be waiting!

    My board cut out, i feel and got some nasty abrasians and smacked the back on of my hwad on the cement. My saving grace was my full faced helmet!
    Board makes a weird clicky/beeping sound and as you said "loses power" or feels weaker despite having a full battery. Imm gonna take a look a the motor plug tomorrow and tru to clean it out.

    Yup just had the exact same thing happen on me, rode my badgered GT with motor retention clip in the rain and next thing I know one of the phase wire pins is fried. I’m planning on vescing my GT and completely getting rid of the motor plug and using cable gland instead. Can run beefy bullet connectors to handle high amp draw, and when it comes to waterproofing, the best connector is no connector

    • @ThatsGinterEV
      @ThatsGinterEV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatsGinterEV true true, luckily the gt box can be opened without removing the controller from the rail, so only really adds a few more screws to get inside the controller, + unplugging 4 wires to do a tire change

    Similar thing happened to me, My board is set up basically the same with WTF Rails. The stock Cable is just a fraction too short in most GT's and when you put WTF's on the board the cable is way too short to make a proper connection. My issue was with a Hall Sensor, not the Phase Wires. I considered doing a bypass like you have, but in the end I went with Vesc option. This was due to Shipping a board back to FM from the UK was more expensive than me just buying a New GT. I just wanted a board I could Trouble shoot on my own, with no worries about the Software Locking me out for something simple like disconnecting a Battery..... Thanks FM. Honestly If it goes again, put a Vesc in it, you won't be disapointed. I took the time to add slack to all of my cables, just so this doesn't happen again. I ditched the Crappy Motor Plug Entirely and opted for a Cable Gland instead, as it is way more reliable. The Fix was about £700 ish all in with buying all the tools needed to do the swap, but I have a fully working board again now and I couldn't be happier. It would solve your WTF Levelling issues as well, seeing as you configure the IMU yourself, you can have any rails you want.

    • @ThatsGinterEV
      @ThatsGinterEV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never thought of that regarding the WTFs. Mine seemed to reach just fine on both Standard WTFs and S&Ds, but I wouldn't rule it out as to contributing in the slightest of manners. I'm glad we have options though, and I'm going to start paying more attention to VESC from here on out.

    • @liamallgood
      @liamallgood ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not blaming the TFL Rails, it's just something I noticed on my setup. In my opinion FM shouldn't have cut costs by making a cable barely long enough for even their stock rails. All of that tugging on the cable can't be good for the connector's longevity, plus everyone knows a little bit of slack on a cable is a good thing. For a premium product, is cutting the cost of a few extra mm of wire really worth all the repairs having to be done on these boards now. I have a 4+ year old XR which is still going strong, and I bet thats because all of the cables had plenty of Slack on them from the Factory. Yeah it's good we have Vesc as an option, I'm glad I've done it to my GT, and if the XR ever dies, i'll put a Vesc in that too. I've just ordered a broken Pint to put a Vesc into as well. Vesc is a rabbit hole, once you start it's hard to stop, you've been warned! 🤣

    I got a concussion because the board cut out going 14mph. FM says their boards don't cut out, but there's plenty of proof that they can pretty easily. They should provide a free fix for the GT motor plug, but they won't.

    • @ThatsGinterEV
      @ThatsGinterEV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry to hear that. Before all this happened, I got a sudden power drop while accelerating up to top speed with a fresh battery. Nose dropped and dragged for a second, but thankfully I was on a smooth street, while going in a straight line. I managed to ride it out until I felt the motor re-engage...turned around and went straight home that morning. A week later I found the dirty plug during a tire change and put 2 and 2 together that this was the cause. I thought I cleaned it good enough...but I was wrong.

      @@ThatsGinterEV I'm glad you were able to ride it out. I was going down a paved walking trail at 14-16mph. Next thing I know I'm in a car being driven home.
