- Onions can be grown from seed or sets and in this video I plant both onion seedlings and onion sets as I begin planting up the veg plot this spring.

the best thing I use for spacing is some rigid square mesh perfect spacing with that
I’ve used weld mesh for sowing seeds before. Near enough does me though 😂
We're going through minus temps for a couple of nights now Jason, so I think I'll hold off planting out for a couple more days..

Hello Jase* I do my onions the same way, my 🧅 beds are a little smaller* so Rows of 4 / 3,,,Best to have too many than not enough* Our neighbours ask what im growing yearly* & like most of us we grow to much so the neighbour's have Brown paper gift bags* Last year i had more Salad than Asda 😂 A tip for the onion greens* I dont waste them, I chop them / dry them / store them in jars* Perfect to add to soups & winter stews*,,,,,Michelle
Hi Michelle. Yes we pass our surplus on to family and the neighbours. We do add some of the greens to dishes. But I like to dry them and platt them the old way. We find they last months like that. We have just finished eating last years onions.
Hi Jase where I live in UK (Durham) I've sowed onions end of March early April, and had great crops, once the weather warms up they grow quick and I plant out mid May, never grew red onions as I have heard they bolt a lot . supposed to be getting colder again 😠,thanks for sharing Steve Colwell
Yea front maybe at the weekend. But onions are tough (grow through the winter) so I’ll pop some fleece over them if needed.

They should be fine under some fleece. That is why I’ve held a tray back though. 😂
