Here's a request from a youtube comment - so glad i did this one! a classic of classics. Such a GREAT melody and bassline. 6 bar phrases, repeated 3 times... and those clanging beats. savage stuff.

im loving these videos, i would love to see an analysis of Squarepushers 'Beep Street'. Keep it up
thank you! GREAT suggestion... was thinking it was time for a non-aphex video... Hard Normal Daddy is such a seminal album. Beep Street... that melody!! gonna do it :)
Just discovered your channel. It's amazing stuff, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! It can be disheartening making videos that get very few plays and no comments, so it's really appreciated! Gonna keep going :)
I wish I could subscribe twice. Lovely stuff.
ha! at first I read that as "I wish I could transcribe stuff".. i was about to give you some tips and then realised you said something different. anyways... THANK YOU!!! :D
I've actually transcribed a handful of his songs. I'm particularly interested the broader harmonic implications/chords (or implied chords where he is missing a 3rd but has a root and 5th) and how he will develop his melodies which are always so HIM.@@iamzoid
Nice job! Demon thumbnail too!
haha thanks :D (working on Saint Michels Mount btw - a big project)
@@iamzoid Its got christmas dvd box set potential

Honestly I have no clue why you hold this track in such reverence. I am painfully aware there are so many people who like this track as much as you. I am definitely in the minority. For me, it sounds like a rejected idea that didn't make it to his previous albums. You can hear every idea on 85-92 is really well developed, the mixes have been finely crafted and everything is carefully balanced. With this mess, we get three meandering themes bolted together, the 3rd so disparate that we have to endure a drum break to marry the two parts together. He did not spend the time needed to make this work. There's percussive sounds jumping out in strange places; like he just couldn't be arsed. This is track 10, definitely album filler. Call me a Philistine, don't care. 🤣😂
Very interesting comment, although i disagree. I think the 6-bar long phrases of both A and B sections, the strangely interlocking bass+melody parts, the unusual melody in A, the even more unusual melody in B... it all points towards this track being carefully composed, definitely as much as any other track on ICBYD!
the drum break is class anyway! what the hell are those drums i'd love to know 😆
If there are any throwaway tracks on ICBYD i'd say Mookid would be more along those lines... I was looking at doing a video on that one but there wasn't too much in it to talk about!
Ironically despite all the praise the mixing on 85-92 gets, RDJ said it himself that it was a fluke of whatever very simple setup he had at the time iirc
But agreed that the solo drums bridging sections is a trick as old as time itself and lends itself more to infinitely looping videogame music
@@LASHH9669I haven’t really heard much praise for the mixing on 85-92… I’ve long thought it was a classic for the musical ideas, not the production.
How much ""effort"" and or skill one puts into a track does not directly correlate to "nice to listen to". A loop of just 2 notes can be compelling in the right context. For example I find the track "sonar and depth charge" by Earth to be very moving
