  • Tovrea Castel at Carraro Heights is a Phoenix Point of Pride locally called "The Wedding Cake". Tovrea Castle features Spanish architectural influences, like parapets surrounding the roofline of each tier. The surrounding gardens exhibit more than 5,000 individual cacti of more than 100 species, all maintained by Tovrea Carraro Society volunteers. Each night, Tovrea Castle is lit by hundreds of colored LED bulbs along the rooftops and fences. Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights is named in honor of the original builder, Alessio Carraro, and its second owners, E. A. and Della Tovrea, who are named on the memorial pyramid near the park's entrance. You can get a guided tour of Tovrea Castle led by the Tovrea Carraro Society, a local non profit organization formed to operate the site, in partnership with the City of Phoenix. It's absolutely worth a visit!
