    I really like his artistic decission of slowing it down a tad compared with other performances. This slower tempo reveals the true beauty and trancendedness of this piece.

      I completely disagree. It takes on an almost funeral like tone, and loses its romantic nature. It should be Andante, not Adagio or Adagietto.
      This is meant to be about lost love. I know this will put me in the dog house, but damn it, and burn the barn down for all I care. There should be passion in the maestro's performance. Instead we get a pallbearer delivering the corpse of
      Eurydice, fresh from her snake bite!
      Honestly, we celebrate love, not death. Why else is Orpheus willing to go into the depths of Hades to bring her back? That is like the most heroic and romantic gesture in the history of the world, and
      Evgeny Kissin wants to slow it down in some bizarre deconstruction.
      No. It doesn't feel right.
      And why can't we be critical of geniuses, which Evgeny Kissin clearly is?
      Everyone is falling over each other to shower him with praise. Why? Are we afraid of Russian mafia coming after us? Are we terrified of being traditional or romantic? Is some music snob going to take my opera glasses for weeping?
      I say fall in love, and have a good cry! Damn it! It's good for the soul!
      ; )

      @@chopin65 it all comes down to taste i guess, but imho you can't come rushing into 2:20 without ruining it.

    Slowing the tempo and playing with such a pureness and elegant sensitivity... Being so young on those days... I liked him a lot before, but now this man stole my heart ❤...

      Kissin's interpretation is definitely on the slow side, but it really brings out all the subtleties.

    • @marktabla2795
      @marktabla2795 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This IMSLP offering is my favorite score presentation for this. In this particular edition, the elegant melody line has its own staff above the accompaniment instead of being crammed among the notes of the right=hand accompaniment staff as I've seen in other editions:imslp.simssa.ca/files/imglnks/usimg/7/79/IMSLP02720-Sgambati_gluck.pdfKissin's rendition might be a tad slow. Check out Rachmaninoff's RCA recording. It's a brisker pace but at the same time manages to maintain stately elegance and exquisite beauty. This is my go-to fave:th-cam.com/video/4-3nHhPomh0/w-d-xo.html
