Ethan's chocolate mouse story was surprisingly relatable for me. No allergies, but when I was young I was on regular medications and IDK, I've always been weird with pills, they don't go down well, so it was a struggle finding a way to make it a tolerable experience. One of the tricks we did for a while was sticking it in a spoonful of jam. Worked great at first, but then I started to associate jam with pills and stopped being able to tolerate it. Jam itself became disgusting to me. It wasn't until recent years that I decided to give jam a go again, slowly got over it, quite like it now.

isoamyl acetate(banana flavoring) -is- found in bananas, but not nearly as much in the ones that we eat nowadays. There was, however, lots of isoamyl acetate in the Gros Michel banana(and thus tasted a lot more akin to banana candies). The Gros michel was -the- banana back in the day, it was the most popular banana variety in the mid 1800s, when bananas started getting introduced to much of the US.
Unfortunately the Gros Michel banana was attacked by(and nearly wiped off the face of the earth) by the fusarium fungus(starting around the late 1800s, near gone by the 1950s)
(Banana typically spread thru 'cloning' and thus, there really wasnt a chance of any Gros Michel plants being able to evolve a defense against the fungus.)
The banana we eat nowadays in the Cavendish, which is hardier than Gros Michel and more Fusarium resistant, but they also don't taste nearly as banana-y as the Gros Michel.
So when you eat banana flavored things, you aren't eating modern bananas, but rather the bananas of times past, i think its pretty cool and its why banana is one of my favorite flavors, it has a story to it :D
(i do agree with the sentiment on grape, however, that stuff makes me wanna yarf.)

So. Fun fact; grape flavoring was actually made to taste like a specific variety of grape- concord grapes- which aren't usually sold in grocery stores!! And for banana flavoring, it's modeled after the gros michaels banana, which went extinct! It actually tastes pretty damned close to what they used to taste like, from what I understand.
I also think artificial grape and banana are repulsive.

I literally didn't know the artificial grape flavour was artificial because there is an actual type of grape which tastes just like that, they grow in my aunts backyard and I ate them all the time, so when I first had a grape soda (which don't really exist in my country) I just thought "neat, it tastes like that one type of grape", only later finding out that everybody knows that flavour as "artificial" grape flavour.

I think it’s been like 15 years since I’ve seen the plain lemon so it was wild to see it in the lineup lol, glad to know it’s still around somewhere!

Tapioca has tiny bobba pearls that generally settle to the bottom of the pudding cups. You have to mix the pudding before you eat it. It's a texture thing.

But in my early 30's I tried pudding again and damn near gagged. The texture was the absolute worst thing. So 11:01 is the realest thing, smooth, chunky, textured, makes me gag and shiver.

Grape flavor is actually based on the Concord grape. It’s not really grown for widespread consumption, unlike table grapes. So yeah it makes sense that “normal” grapes don’t taste like the concord variety.

So, here's the thing about artificial grape: it's not going for the type of grape that most people (in the US, anyway) usually eat. The type of grape that artificial grape is trying to imitate is Concord grape. Obviously it's still not one to one, but it's a hell of a lot closer than your typical table grape.

grape flavor comes from the flavor of concord grapes, which can only be harvested in certain places and a certain time of the year so their not as easy to buy, that’s why most people don’t know that they exist and think that grape flavor tastes nothing like grapes.

Speaking of tasting like laundry detergent...
When I was a kid, I remember some cereal or something was running this promotion where they had an Ice Age 2 ice lolly mould inclduded in their boxes. A friend of mine had one, and one time when I was over at his, I found it in the freezer and said "hey, can I have this?" And he responded in the affirmative. It was yellowy, so I thought it'd just be lemon flavoured. I stuck the thing in my mouth and immediately, I knew it was not lemon flavoured.
    Well
    It was TECHNICALLY lemon flavoured.
It was just lemon flavoured dish washing soap.
