This song is Psalm 23 from the Bible, but the meaning is reversed. In the original, Christ is our protector through the valley of the shadow of death. In this song it’s saying he can’t protect you. Instead you’ll use your own human strength (Gun). If you’re a believer in Christ this is a red flag. Because nothing can protect you from Death aka (The valley of the shadow of death) only Christ can. Because he defeated death on the cross. When you live for him, you’ll know that victory over death like him. Your own human strength cannot save you from death. Victory over the powers of darkness, pain, greed, and hate. Depression, Dissatisfactions, and worries. Pff all that stuff is gone when you now have Christ in the heart. I used to be a big fan of LOU, man I was anticipating the sequel and following all the new updates on the sequel since I finished playing the first LOU. Up until a year and a half ago. This stuff is rubbish. Didn’t bring happiness in my life it only distracted me from the reality of the empty heart I had. Love is what this world needs. I used to be identified with the gaming community, consumed entertainment like everyone else. Not anymore. . .I’ve found joy following Christ, not some temporary fix in entertainment. Ya know it’s the truth too. I’m speaking to those who are longing for more than just the superficial consumptions that never satisfies the soul. You know who you are. Never heard such a raspy, yet on tone growl in my life, and I'm 30 and have been deep into music as a hobby since I was a kid. Reminded me of a classic jazz musician, combined with grunge, combined with Brent Smith.
Just blown away by that. Was playing a game and listening in the the background, and has to pause to play it back a few times. That sequence was amazing.

Did you watch her sing it in the trailer it’s not really the same but it’s still really good
but you can play it yourself when practice on the guitar
greenapplepear i proposed the idea before that it should’ve been an optional cutscene maybe, like the take on me one, and she sits to play guitar and plays through the valley.. Joel walks through the door and says “what’re you doing kiddo? You really gonna go through with this?” and we cut to a flashback where Joel is looking through a doorway and sees younger Ellie sat with a guitar before going on her first solo patrol or something like that, and we get a short cutscene of them talking and it ends on a real sweet moment where Joel asks what she’s been playing so she starts strumming through the valley, and when she finishes the song we cut back to present day with her holding the guitar and she looks up at the doorway to see no one there but the guitar makes her think of that memory with Joel and she says “I’m gonna find and I’m gonna kill every last one of them” as if Joel was there to hear it. And then continue on with the game
At the start, she’s listening to the song on her headphones, right before Joel gives her the guitar

As someone who's been a huge Shawn James fan for a few years now, it makes me super happy to see so many people introduced to his fantastic music, regardless of what brought them here.
I've never played The Last Of Us Part I or II, but I've heard mostly great things about it.
I do know this song kicks ass!
Great song for sure. Amazing voice. So distinctive. Both games are top drawer. My number 1 campaigns so far and can be played back to back and as one which is what I’d suggest. You don’t have to be huge into video games the story is amazing enough all by itself to warrant a play through.

Last of us part 2: As I walk through the valley. The valley being Seattle. Of the shadow of death. Death lingering behind every corner of Seattle. I fear no evil because I'm blind to it all. Ellie's pursuit for vengeance blinds her from fear and consequence. The entire story is really just a reflection of the song, revealing Ellies reality and mentality.In my mind and my gun I find comfort because i know that they'll kill my enemies. Unable to walk on the path of the right because unfortunately all that Ellie does in the game is wrong and she isnt the good guy nor is she the bad guy. There is no such thing as either just people wanting what feels right for them.

@@alcovitch I personally know a woman that is bigger than Abby and she is most definitely not on steroids. She lived in a military community where she was well-fed and had access to a big gym. It baffles me how obsessed everyone is with her muscles when Gears of War exists where everyone is MOST DEFINITELY not realistically modeled, even on steroids that game's characters are fake as hell and no one bats an eye.

I know this song is mostly associated with Ellie because of the trailer from a couple years ago, but the lyrics really make me think of Joel and his character arc over the two games. Especially the "savior of the human race" part, making me think of the fireflies trying to find a cure.

Daruki Neo most certainly, that’s what makes music so beautiful, however all I did was inform, as I said previously, interpretive songs are to be listened to and considered, and for such a good song all they did was listen to the chorus and heard “walk through the valley, through the shadow of death.” I guess it’s a little sad to see an amazing artist be unheard for his personal hurt.
