My first DAC, my second "audiophile" piece of kit (after the HiFiMan HE400SE), so if I missed anything let me know. Also, use my affiliate link to buy one amzn.to/3NakOQS if you like.
Hi Aaron! Great video! Just a quick question.. Would the Ifi Hip Dac 2 work on PA systems for music playback? The Bose L1 pro 16 has a 3.5mm aux input so you can play music from your laptop straight to your PA system.. Thanks!
Hey Jose, thanks for your question. Very unique situation you have there, but I think it would work no problem. Personally I'd love to see how this pans out.
Hi Brad, great question - based on the specs of both, the 2 can power the XS, almost at the edge. I've heard from some folks who own XSes that their 2s sound great, especially with Power Match on.
Barely. You'd need a balanced cable for more power and have power match on. And even then, you start hearing distortion past the one o'clock position in the volume dial.
When it comes to headphones, DACs, and amps, it is rarely "snake oil". You usually CAN tell a difference if used correctly. Asking if the price is worth it for everyone is another subject. MQA is pretty much snake oil though. Look up a video about it by Goldensound if you are curious. Also, I don't think it is a good idea to have noise canceling on if you want audio quality. Better to just use the wire unpowered at a desk.
@@gearupaaron I'll be using my hifiman edition xs headphones, which are power hungry, connected to my samsung galaxy ultra smartphone. Is the hip dac 2 a good choice for this particular application? Also, while connected to my samsung, can I also charge the hip dac into a wall socket simultaneously?
If you’re starting to venture into the audiophile gear, I’d look into Fiio. Theyre a budget friendly audiophile brand. At least they were a decade ago, I stopped following that scene.

So, is it possible to listen to music while charging the hip dac at the same time?
Great review. That's a product I didn't really know existed. So thanks for opening my eyes up to it!
It's quite an interesting device, and I hope to get my hands on another type that's more portable AND made to connect via Bluetooth to the source.
Another enjoyable watch, your reaction @09:12 😊 we know the feeling. Thank you for the recent notification👍
Anytime y'all want to send GearUP new kit, we're game 😎🤘

Is this hip dac sufficient?

What’s the difference between orange Hip-dac2 and Hip-dac2 Gold Edition??
IIRC it was some changes/improvement to the power supply and tuning. Besides the gold, of course.
@@gearupaaron so sounds is improved?
@look8234 Supposedly. And knowing iFi, I'd believe it.
@@gearupaaron thank you very much.
@look8234 No problem! Have a great weekend. And if you decide to get the gold edition, do let us know what you think of it, ya?
it gets better than that. check out the topping DX3 pro+ for your desktop. also the HD6XX from drop.
Are you suggesting I go down the rabbit hole? Ha-ha!
@@gearupaaron yes. Slowly. LOL.

Good points! I like amps and DACs, but flipping through Sound and Vision always makes me feel like a lowly cheap bottom-feeder plebeian, lol 🤣

They're on my list of must-tests, but I promised myself NOT to go get in too deep, ha-ha!
it's a nice dac for the money, but everything ifi makes is good value for money,
Well said!
