Good tips for any long distance run (750+ miles) where you need to just scoot from point A to point B. I do a lot of road trips like that, but want to knock out a SS1K for the hell of it later this month. Personally, I can’t stand energy drinks, so I just carry a soft cooler and stick to ice cold water bottles. Usually when I stop for gas. In my cooler, I will also carry three or four bottles of the Starbucks cold Frappuccino drinks. I will drink those as a change of pace or when I start to lag physically. They do give me a boost. Ironically, I am a heavy coffee drinker and can’t stand Starbucks hot coffee drinks, but those cold Frappuccino’s are refreshing and actually pretty good.

Thanks for posting been riding long time myself never had entry interest in doing thousand Miles 24 hours did a lot of 800 mi days just riding but two inches on
Yeah, i never really got the appeal myself until i did one kind of by accident and didn't document it. A buddy said "Hey, you did 1000k in 24hrs, you should get it certified" of course i didn't have all the necessary documentation so I had to do another one, lol.
haha, yeah man, i battle with it on the reg. especially when telling somebody where i've been and they are like "oh did you stop and see such and such, or get a picture with the yada yada." I'm like, DAMN IT. LMAO
Hmmmm. I should’ve saw this before I did mine. I stopped every time to film, go live, take photo, film more, check out SF, only to stress out on the way back. Good video!
Never done one, but am considering it.. Thanks for the tip on the camelback. Never really thought about that, but i can see how that might work real well loaded with the crushed ice.
Getting sleep is a priority. I got 3 hours before I did my saddle sore 1000 and bun burner 1500 last year. I plan on doing a bun burner silver and a bun burner gold in the future. I know the bun burner gold will be a very difficult challenge. It took me 29 hours 8 minutes to do my bun burner last year. I need to trim over 5 hours from the time. I am thinking of hitting I80 and just heading west to do it. Iowa to California. Do the silver on the way out. Spend a couple days seeing the redwoods and getting rest and do the gold on the way home.
Back in the early 1990's I did the saddle sore 1000. Going from Abilene' TX to San Diego, CA the last week of June. I left at 10:30pm. I had a camal bak hydration system, and a tank bag with home made trail mix, that way I could get a drink and eat while riding. I avoided the most heat by leaving so late. Good advice!!!
I dig the video. Im doing my first 1k in a couple weeks. My planning of riding early, hitting the interstate, energy drinks and only stopping for gas was right in line with your suggestions. Camelbak is happening as well. Didn't even think of that. Im riding from Billings Montana to Ferndale WA. Itll be over 100 out in Montana for sure! Lookin forward to more videos man.🤘😆
I've done two Saddlesore 1000 over a 3 day weekend(and Tail of the Dragon on the rest day in between😁). I'm So glad you mentioned staying hydrated. I'd like to also suggest a test ride of at least 500 miles before doing this for riders that have never been on a long motorcycle trip. This will reveal everything you need to know about the comfort of your bike and if you need a better seat and it will reveal how you handle a long ride and any additional preparation you may need. One thing that (literally) saved my ass was wearing gel padded cycling shorts under my relaxed fit jeans.
i'm usually not very hungry on my long distance rides, i do like to keep trail mix in case i get stranded tho...and by stranded i mean in cell range with shade and the ability to wait for an hour, LMAO
@@Setzerpendence jerky is good so you get some protein for the day, BUT you don't get a belly full and need to stop for #2 🚽. They say (docs/nutrition experts) that an apple gives more energy than a cup of coffee in the morning. Who knows???? I love your definition of stranded 🤣
Really hopeful I’m able to get the 1k in a day and 1500 in 36 done before I head up north later next month. Solid tips though boss. Keep the shiny side up and stay safe out there 😎🤙
Hydration is definitely the key and learned that the hard way on my first big road trip. I always get up early to gain some time and miles, it;s really the best way to start out.
I'm planning the Sutes of S1k for this summer and found this to a helpful video. Most of the SS1k videos on 'tube are 20 minutes of guys riding and buying gas but have no useful content.
I remember one time riding from Badlands after a long day and needing to get back to Deadwood...I walked into the gas station and I asked the cashier “what is the nastiest flavor 5 hour energy shot you got?” She started laughing and asked “why the nastiest?!” I need the shock off the flavor to wake my ass up and the 5 hour part to keep me up!” I have found that all of them are the nastiest but for me very effective. I’ll have some on my upcoming 1K
yeah those 5 hours used to work pretty good for me and i actually don't hate the grape, lol, but yeah, they are eye openers right out of the gate for sure, lol. Looking forward to your 1k bud, safe riding!!!
Great tips man. I'm not sure when I'll be able to utilize them as my rides are half a day or less, but the same could apply to those. By the way, who made that sign of yours in the background?
you gotta take some Brett time one weekend and let them kids fend for themselves LMAO. I made it, it's a banner and i hung it over the windows and the curtains lol.
I did it once But I did not document it with the gas slips. I was so tired I slept for 12 hours when I was done. lol, All great tips. My Tip I wear Bicycle shorts with a padded ass really helps.
I left at 3AM and crushed those first 500 miles as soon as possible. I ate beef jerky at gas stops if I was hungry and drank the 5 hour energy. The caffeine pill is a better choice for sure. Great tips brother. I'm going to smash another 1KINADAY in July. 👊😎👊
