Thanks for showing part of my city. Unfortunatelly it don' t keep many monuments. The best thing in Albacete is the nice quality of life: Albacete is the oerfect size to live in, we can go on foot almost everywhere, it' very safety, it's not expensive, there're a lot of cultural offer and comerce, it' s quite near the beach, Madrid, Andalucía ...And the people is friendly, I think so. Sorry if I made mistakes in English, and a huge hug.

@@JeffRhinoBannister Yes, there's many restaurants, as in the rest of spanish towns. By the way, there' s several parks, a lot of green areas in comparison with the city size. And, my favourite building: the provincial museum, it is arqueological, from Paleolitic, and important specialy for iberian piezes. Threre's fine arts in other part of the museum.
Murcia y Albacete no son tan diferentes, nosotros destruimos casi todo el patrimonio para hacer más espacio para los coches. Un buen ejemplo es la demolición de los baños árabes al construir la Gran Vía.

Albacete is Known as "el Nueva York de La Mancha" after a poem written by Azorín, late years of s. XIX due to its high buildings and grade of development for those years. Of Course is just a funny anecdote and "the albaceteñ@s" take it that way

Me encanta esa ciudad vivo en Zaragoza pero Albacete me cautivó mucho viviría allí sin más se come súper bien se vive bien buenos centros comerciales una ciudad no muy grande pero con muy buenos servicios calidad de vida y cerca de muchas otras comunidades importantes como levante. Madrid Andalucía en fin quien sabe si algún día iré a vivir allí calidad de vida .😊
Yo he vivido en las dos, tienes muchas similitudes. Me encanta Zaragoza, y el "ico" :) que también comparte Albacete.
Tiene gracia que uno de los mejores reportajes de la ciudad de Albacete esté en inglés y hecha por un youtuber con medios limitados, muy buen reportaje, entiendo que tampoco ha habido mucho tiempo para documentarse más y sobre todo para comer mejor, veo que lo que más comentas como "normalito" es la comida y creo precisamente que Albacete otra cosa no... pero buenos sitios donde comer puede que sea el sitio de España donde más y buenos sitios hay por habitante, me llama la atención también lo del ruido, entiendo que para alguien de fuera es algo que llama la atención, y hay que reconocer que los españoles en general somos muy ruidosos jajaj, aun así, te aseguro que Albacete (salvo por la noche en la zona) es bastante tranquila y poco ruidosa en general, gracias por este pequeño repaso a la ciudad que se nota que está grabado en una mañana y con pocos medios pero aun así es bastante completa.
Comida mediocre... ruidoso, sin parques decentes... Creo que no ha hecho bien los deberes.

We also say that people from Albacete always get back if they have to leave the city. I'm an example, I lived in some cities in Spain (Toledo, Madrid, Girona) and also out of Spain (París, Bogotá), ang I went back to Albacete 7 times.

I would also suggest a visit to the Museum of Albacete. It is located into the big park and has a lot of interesting archaeological pieces. Also, cheese is really important here. There are a kind of shops called "Mantequerias" all over the city where you can buy them and other local products. Nice video 🤗

Albacete is an underrated city in spain and people use it as a joke but actually is a pretty good city to live in, has mostly everything you need, you can walk through very easily, the party sites are all together in "la zona"
The only bad thing is "las 600" that is a marginal suburb but is fine as long you dont go there, theres nothing to see there and is pretty dangerous specially at night time
To be honest is one of the best city to live in spain also for been near to other important citys like madrid, alicante or valencia

Me ha salido de casualidad este vídeo como recomendación y la verdad es que me ha encantado y todo lo que has dicho es cierto y me sorprende muchos de los datos que conoces que yo no sabía y eso que es mi propia ciudad jajaja.
Uno de los grandes secretos de España, son estas ciudades que pasan desapercibidas, de las que poca gente habla, y en las que se vive con una calidad de vida brutal, yo hablo de las gallegas, para quien no las conozca, Lugo, Ourense y Pontevedra, son espectaculares; ciudades muy seguras, de un tamaño medio, entre 80000 y 100000 habitantes, son ciudades donde se come a lo grande, hay una marcha que alguno se espera, con una gente encantadora; y en el caso de Pontevedra, muy cerquita de playas espectaculares, pero como bien dice algún comentario, guarden el secreto.
Solo falta que la gente joven de esos sitios se ponga a tener hijos para que la población no se envejezca tanto. Venga, es tiempo de otro "baby boom".
Si quieres guardar el secreto no lo digas!!!

Great video! I just wanted to clearify that the building you said was town hall isn't anymore, it was at somepoint (it is a small museum now), but the town hall is currently located between the cathedral and El Museo de la Cuchillería.
The Casino Primitivo isn't actually a casino, it used to be a place were people from the upper classes would play cards but now it is more of a place which you can book to have events there.
Fun fact! It was called the New York of la Mancha because it was one of the first cities in Spain on being electrified so people were able to spot Albacete from far away when they were travelling by train, while the rest of the land was completely dark.

A Historia no nos gana nadie, de Don Quijote, el Pernales a....Jose Luis Cuerda, Andrés Iniesta o Joaquín Reyes. Hablando en serio, estáis invitados todos los foráneos a visitar la ciudad, en un día da para todo (porque no hay mucho) y luego os vais a la zona y recordaréis Albacete por siempre. Eso sí, si de verdad quieres disfrutar coge el coche y visita una de las provincias más espectaculares de España (sin mar, eso sí aunque con playa, Las Lagunas de Ruidera, que compartimos con nuestros vecinos "culipardos" de CIUDAD REAL, y que son tan majos como nosotros. 1/3 de la provincia de Albacete es montañosa, esto lo sabe poca gente, la Sierra del Segura y de Cazorla ofrece parajes dignos de embelesar con pueblos como Riopar, Yeste, Letur, Ayna, Molinicos, Alcaraz..siempre digo que una etapa de la Vuelta a España por estas sierras sería digna de ver. Y luego hay otras zonas, la ribera de Cubas que lleva a Jorquera y Alcalá del Júcar (frecuentemente situado en los rankings de pueblos más bonitos de España). Pero por favor, venid por turnos, lo que más mola es que no hay mucha gente y, en general, solo los valencianos y murcianos, además de los castellanomanchegos (y algún avispado con referencias) disfrutan de estas maravillas.

Albacete ha tenido un desarrollo reciente sorprendente. Mucha gente no la conoce pero yo he estado varias veces y es una ciudad muy extensa y muy moderna. La gente que vive alli está encantada.

En todas las provincias españolas se come bien, comida tradicional, no tonterías como en las grandes capitales solo para turistas que no lo consumen los locales salvo esporadicamente . Platos populares de cuchara. Y carnes, como el cordero, etc los buenos pescados llegan a toda España.

Como persona que vive en Albacete me ha hecho mucha ilusión este video. Además, me gustaría decir que Albacete es una ciudad muy tranquila en la que no suelen haber muchos problemas. También es relativamente pequeña y plana como has dicho en el vídeo así que yo, personalmente voy siempre a pie a todos lados sin ningún problema y sin que se haga muy largo el camino.

I recommend you to visit La Pulgosa, a very big park in the outskirts of the city. Besides, you should try the typical dishes of Albacete cuisine, such as atascaburras, ajo de mataero, pisto manchego and gazpacho manchego (that has nothing to do with the Andalusian gazpacho).
Unfortunately there are not many historical buildings in the city, but you can see many Liberty style buildings on Ancha street.
Being such a flat city, it is very comfortable to walk and run.
In the centre of the city is La Zona (nightlife area, party zone), where there are many bars. People tend to go out in the afternoon to drink some "cañas" (half pint of beer), later they have lunch in a restaurant and after that coffee and "cubatas" (alcoholic beverages). The party continues during the evening and at 9 or so, Albacete people have dinner. Later, people continue to drink "cubatas". The fiesta starts at 1 pm and ends very late in the evening.
The food in Albacete is excellent!! You should try dishes such as "atascaburras", "ajo mataero", "pisto manchego", "gazpachos" and so many others!!

El término "Albacete caga y vete" no hace referencia a que sea una ciudad grande o pequeña,a que tenga atracciones turísticas o no,a que tengas cosas que ver o no. El término hace referencia, como bien ha dicho el amigo, a que está a una distancia más o menos equidistante de Madrid y las zonas de playa del levante español(Valencia,Alicante y Murcia). Hoy en día la autovía rodea la ciudad,pero antiguamente tenías que atravesarla por lo que hoy se conoce como la circunvalación, donde todo aquel mortal después de unas horas en los coches de la época en su camino hacia la playa paraba para hacer sus necesidades fisiológicas en algún bar del camino. A comer algo,estirar las piernas y cagar, basicamente. Obviamente todos proseguían con su camino desesperado hacia la playa. De ahí el "caga y vete".
Esa frase es terriblemente despectiva. Lo único que denota, de quien la usa, es du gran ignorancia (no conoce esta ciudad) y su gran desprecio por otras personas, las que viven aquí.
Yes, great city and area to bike ride. I rode through there on a bike tour of spain back in the Spring of 2019 are really enjoyed the area. Alcala de Jucar and Jucar gorge are close by and gorgeous. One thing I clearly remember about Albacete was all the outdoor vendors selling los caracoles.
A nice topic about my city, it´s said that Albacete is the city you cry to twice, once when you have to come, and second time when you have to leave... Thanks for your work.

There is some food that is just made there, you should have tried it, and some very good restaurants as well, comida típica manchega. Nice you liked the cheese. I am actually very and gladly surprised you went there. Also recommend the mountains that limit with Andalucía, quite nice. Los Chorros del río Mundo, for instance. Cheers!

Carlos Belmonte, estadio del Albacete Balompié con capacidad para 17.000 personas siendo el recinto con más aforo de CLM, asimismo la plaza de toros tiene capacidad para 12.000 personas siendo el segundo recinto con más aforo, y siendo el tercero el Circuito de Albacete.
Comentar que la torre del Depósito del agua es la construcción más alta de Castilla - La Mancha con unos 70 metros de altura, y un edificio "La torre de La pajarita" es también el edificio de viviendas más alto de toda Castilla - La Mancha.
Otro dato cuando hablas del Parque Abelardo Sánchez y mencionas que es el parque más grande de la ciudad (Es cierto) pero de hecho creo que el parque periférico "La Pulgosa" es más grande todavía sin duda.

Despues de un estudio de mi Árbol genealogico descubrí que parte de mis tatarabuelos provenían de esta ciudad uno de mis tatarabuelos migró a México, han pasado muchisimos años de estó, pero me da mucha curiosidad por conocer el lugar, se ve muy bonito, espero algún día visitar el lugar de origen de algunos de mis antepasados

Muy buen reportaje, completo y sobre todo hecho con objetividad.
Quizá ha faltado mostrar la vía verde y el parque de la Pulgosa donde se concentran la mayoría de corredores, gente andando, perros, patinadores...etc
Hoy por hoy ciudades como estas de un tamaño no muy grande pero decente, son con sus pros y contras las más amables para vivir, con calidad de vida, seguridad por encima de la media y muy bien comunicadas por autovia y AVE.
Mucha gente piensa que vivir en Madrid o Valencia o Barcelona son las mejores opciones, a veces pueden ser las únicas a causa del trabajo o titulación, pero si el trabajo no es un condicionante hay opciones muchas veces ignoradas por desconocidas y que pueden ser muy válidas para tener una calidad de vida muy buena y un día a día más amable.
Albacete es esa ciudad de España que todo el mundo sabe que existe pero que nadie ha visitado nunca.
The best Feria in Spain? Maybe. Why? Because it's 10/11 days long, many people say it's 1 month long cause there are concerts and activities from 20 days before. The Recinto Ferial is the only used specifically for la Feria and it's IN the city. During these 10 days people (of all ages) lived la Feria 24h/24h. Weekends = 1 million people.

Nice review Stuart. My wife and i just moved from San Diego to Denia and aim to explore places. your reviews will be helpful to decide which places to visit. One thing I am wondering about. It was very easy to get good weather videos about locations while in the US but I can't seem to find either a TV station with a good daily weather report for Spain or a TH-cam channel. To visit locations, it is obviously helpful to prepare for weather - can you help indicate where to find good, in depth video based weather forecasts. We normally used to get them on TV in the USA and most stations had an online presence or a YT channel

My wife and I just had a very nice road trip around Northern Spain... we went to the "Valle de Aran" in Catalonia, and from there went to Barcelona. Southern France is literally at 10 minutes from the valley, so you can have a very nice trip if you decide to go around the French mediterranean as well. In case you decide to go, check the weather before going! Not in Barcelona, but the "Valle de Aran"'s weather, there was a very heavy snowstorm when we were there and we had to turn back since the car we had wasn't suitable for that. We spent around 1500 euros for 6 days, which isn't bad. I recommend "CENTAURO RENT A CAR", quite cheap I've got to say, at least from Madrid.
I would have much preferred a video with living people in it, which you would definitely see on a Sunday afternoon in and around the restaurants and tapa bars, or on a Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening when people are out and about. Albacete is also a university city, which adds to its liveliness. It would have been nice to see some of that.

Lo que dijo que es el Ayuntamiento de Albacete, era el "antiguo" Ayuntamiento, el actual ayuntamiento NO lo ha sacado.
Como ya han señalado algunos paisanos, el término "Nueva York de La Mancha" lo acuñó el escritor Azorín. Parece ser que aproximándose a Albacete en tren desde Madrid, ya de noche, le impresionaron las luces que iluminaban a lo lejos la ciudad, en contraste con la enorme oscuridad de la llanura. Albacete era una ciudad emergente en aquella época, que apostó por un potente alumbrado público.
No ves muchos corredores por la ciudad porque la mayoría van a la Vía Verde de la Fiesta del Árbol o de la Pulgosa.
Es una pena que en tu video no salgan los edificios tan bonitos de la calle Marqués de Molins, exponentes de ese desarrollo que hubo en el XIX. De cualquier manera, gracias por aproximarte a nuestra ciudad de forma tan amable y positiva. ❤️

Hola,soy de Albacete,explicarte que el nombre de "Nueva York de la Mancha"se lo dio el poeta alicantino José Martínez Ruiz ,en el siglo XIX,en uno de sus poemas,debido a los enormes edificios construidos,la flagante industria y la maravillosa iluminación que tenía la ciudad.Al llegar a la ciudad se veía de lejos la figura de los edificios construidos.

Azorín no tituló este poema asi porque Albacete tuviese edificios de gran altura, sino porque la visión que tenía desde el tren, camino de Alicante donde iba a menudo, a su paso por la ciudad era la modernidad al pasar junto al barrio dela Industria, con la fábrica de harinas Fontecha y Cano S.A. de 1917, una importante fábrica propiedad de dos empresarios como Francisco Fontecha Nieto y Filiberto Cano Nieto, la también fábrica de harinas, aunque algo más pequeña, de la Sociedad Manchega Eléctrica, construida en 1897, que José Legorburo adquirió en 1917. Las dos fábricas eran movidas por la eléctricidad producida en los saltos situados en el río Jucar conocidos como El Torcido y Los Frailes. Además de otros negocios como almacenes y depositos.
Azorín jamás estuvo en Albacete aunque si la amaba, por ello le dedicó estas letras:

As Martin has pointed out Sanjurjado’s ‘pronunciamiento’ occurred less than a year after the fall of the monarchy.
The oligarchy had an unrivalled position under the Cánovas system: a free hand for latifundistas, financiers, factory owners, monarchists, church and military officers and manufactured elections - ‘caciquismo’.
The Republic was declared with the wide backing of all thise excluded by the Cánovas system, outside of the oligarchy, middle class (and highly prestigious) bourguois Radicals like Azaña, populists like Lerroux, Catalan elites, Basque conservatives, plus (and it’s a very notable plus) the support of notable Conservatives like Maura and Alcalá Zamora, including key elements of the military.
The Republican constitution, although written by the Socialists and full of utopian clauses, ushered in a liberal democratic republican regime as the legitimate legal authority. The oligarchy had no credible legal answer to that. It crystalised the opposition of the oligarchy because it set up a functional democracratic legitimacy with real popular representation. The church’s fears were confirmed with the secularisation of the state and education and the recognition of women’s rights, divorce, birth control, civil marriage.
The programme of the first ‘bienio’ was modest and limited given the resources available.
The ‘Bienio Negro’ stopped all that before it had really begun. But the real agenda of the Rught was the overthrow of the Republic and its replacement by a corporatist state on a quasi- fascist model. That they were not sufficiently strong enough to do so at the time led to the concerted effort to destabilise and undermine Republican legality with the time honoured use of ‘pistoleros’ and paid mobs, including Falangistas to provoke violence.
The 1936 election was the last chance of the ‘peaceful’ take over of the state promised by Gil Robles. But there was never a doubt about what the goal was - overthrow of the Republic and the establishment of an authoritarian regime. The only discussion was over it would be achieved at the ballot box or at the point of the pistol.
The whole myth of an illegitamate Republic, the Asturian ‘coup’, fraudulent elections, the supposed ‘Communist’ control of the Republic, anticlerical mass murder, that Spain was ‘not ready for democracy’ was all a completely manufactured smoke screen to cover the reality that the oligarchy was absolutely committed to overthrow the legitimate Republican order, liberal democracy, the (very modest) reform programme of the 1932 and 1936 Republican governments in order to restore the ‘traditional’ oligarchical order of power, wealth and influence that they had under the Cánovas system
