Synopsis:
It tells an inspirational story of how a group of young people grew up, chased their dreams and struggled in their life during the 1970s reform era in China. Xiao Chun Sheng (Xiao Zhan) along with his two buddies Ye Guo Hua (Liu Rui Lin) and Chen Hong Jun (
Cui Hang), are children of military families and government workers who grew up in the same courtyard. They share many experiences like joining the army, taking the college entrance examination, going into business, starting their own business, going abroad and entering politics. They also meet Tong Xiao Mei (Li Qin), a Beijing girl pursuing her dreams of becoming a doctor, and their destinies were closely intertwined...

Hongling isn’t bad or evil. She wanted to remain with CS, but the outlook wasn’t positive. CS didn’t listen to her suggestions either bc he wanted to chase his dreams which meant they’d have to be apart. No one is bad here. Xiaomei also chased her dreams, however, fate brought her bedside CS and she was patient. As in this drama, we only have what’s before us to make our decisions. Sometimes those choices will lead us to someone we care for and at other times it’ll lead us further away. Such is life. It doesn’t make one better or worst than another.
Also, bravery, courage and strength can be interpreted many ways. Choosing someone you love is brave as you’ll have to be patient and wait for each other. Choosing your dream is also brave bc it’s not easy when there’s sacrifices to be made.

You are right in your appreciation of the situation between CS and GL. They clearly state their shortcomings and their dreams. They all strived for their goals and dreams. SC in his last analysis clearly understood that they cared for each other, but their life goals were different. HL described herself boldly and as you say no one is bad it's just getting finally to know and accept that they are not meant for each other. GH also realized his shortcomings, he can never be CS.

Xiao Zhan is such a great actor, he must come back to the highest peak of movies. THE UNTAMED is the greatest movie I´ve ever seen. In this role he´s phantastic. Fans with no respect for private athmosphere of actors, can´t destroy a wonderful talent of Xiao.
So basically, He Hong Ling only liked him when he was a potential war hero : she only liked that beautiful picture that she had of him, that picture of a glorious warrior, man bravely fighting on the battlefield, proudly standing and wearing a soldier uniform and probably having medals on him.
She never liked the real him : just the beautiful picture she had of him. And now that she realizes he may never be that proud, glorious, handsome soldier, she's scared and doesn't want to stay with him... but is too cowardish to admit it out loud, admit her selfishness and shallowness, admit she's that kind of person.
Although I was long hoping for their breakup, but I still feel so sad for Chun Sheng : he bravely fought and sacrificed, but now he's being abandoned his friends, has to give up on his dream, he lost his dad, all while the best for whom he's sacrificed is being praised for basically having done nothing while he only got injuries for his efforts and is being overlooked, even looked down and pitied. And now, even his beloved woman, who was his only straw of hope, gave up on him
But at least now, he's probably gonna get the opportunity to see who really loves and cherishes, and to see the value of Xiao Mei's devotion to him

Não gostei! Ele que ficasse com a mulher que amava. Xiaomei foi uma tola por aceitá-lo. Fui para os capítulos finais. Era somente gratidão da parte dele. Enquanto ela sempre o amou. A tola o aceitaria, mesmo se ele tivesse que passar a vida inteira em uma cama. Ele não a merece. E ela é digna de pena.

I am so glad Chansheng saw thru the real Hongling. She is someone who is not capable of loving another with no conditions.
Chunsheng is at his lowest point in his life and she chose her career. He even asked her to wait for him but she couldn’t answer and left the room.
Chansheng never looked back after that. Love the character so much.
Do u think CS gonna help HL & her mother with the money he had?she don’t need to depend on other ppl to support herself& her mother.
She made good decisions by choosing her career bcz atleast she is independent.also if she lose her career, she has nowhere to go
@@AskMe-fl2smtienes algo de razón pero antes ella ya dependió de GuoHua, así que ya no vale tanto, además, hasta este punto, podríamos comprenderla pero al final la va a regar porque después de todo siempre si elegirá al que le de buena estabilidad económica, osea a GuoHua. La admiraría si por ella misma hubiera seguido haciendo su lucha por conseguir sus sueños pero sin haber abandonado a ChunSheng pero al final no confío en él y en su gran tenacidad a diferencia de xiaomei.

Hongling doesn't love Chunseung truly. Now that he's at his lowest that's when she knows she will leave him eh. Let her go and chase her dreams and be with Ye Gouhoua. They are better suited for each other, Chunseung is to good for her, he doesn't deserve such kind of selfish love.
It is better sef, let him go to Xiaomei who loves him selflessly.

I completely understand where Honging was coming from but she has never loved. Loving someone make you not to think about consequences. Look at how the DR packed her bag in hot pursuit. Again fabulous episode.

Xiaomei could have told Chunsheng early on that she was the girl in the library, but remained silent because focusing on medical study was her priority before love. Luckily, true love came later for her and chunsheng.

Xiaomei's presence is so pacifying, soft, delicate and strong as a rock at the same time, so loyal.
Hongling is too ambitious and selfish for Chungsheng.

I don't blame Hongling. That decision was very hard for her make with her family situation. It's only a person with courage that can be with a lover even when the person is down or wounded.

THANK YOU! I haven't followed a drama's 'waiting to watch' it ep by ep in a long time! This one refreshed my feelings of anticipation! Hongling did try to encourage him about walking again! She even was going to forgo the last concert, yet Xiao C's voice of reason, not Guohua's convinced her to make the right decision. They both, for good reasons, toddled that emotional fence. Only life's experiences can show your true character, real values and faith or lack thereof. Episode 21, please! 😊

Its not wrong to choose your career but HongLin leave him when he needed her most, discouraged him, even she moved on with his own best friend without considering how will he feel. From the starting I feel that only person she love is herself, nothing to do with her career cause before Guhua's help she didn't even know what to do with her hobby. She is selfish not because she choose her career but she could wait for Changchan to recover at least but she choose to move on with her sugerdaddy

Ye Guo Hua makes me sick standing up there with no shame. And He Hong Ling is suddenly very understanding of him taking her boyfriend's glory. All those speeches she gave XCS about not stepping on YGH"s toes because he's the platoon leader. But she has zero problem with YGH being a liar and accepting a glory that doesn't belong to him. She didn't scold him at all. Maybe subconsciously she knew she would abandon XCS and go to YGH she was ok with him taking the credit cause it would benefit him and then her.

I don’t think Hongling should be blamed for her decisions, if Xiaomei had to choose between Chunsheng and her dream she should definitely choose her dream too. They are just in luck that her dreams brought her to him
