Keep in mind it can be almost impossible to rent an apartment in France if you are not French. There are more ppl in Paris than there are apartments 😕 You have to be making 3 times the amount of your rent each month and you need a guarantee to sign for it and they have to be French. You can get around these rules by renting illegally as a sublet but that can end up being disastrous.
One of the most important thing is this video is your perspective on how moving from one continent to another helped you grow as a person. I see way too many people (in general) that never moved from their city / country and fail to realize that the world is BIG, and their worldview is anything but skewed. Congratz on your achievements, and enjoy !
Bonjour, 😉 Maybe you could explain to them a bit more about the life expense, like health care and all, because I think it kind of play daily on how much you can do if don't paid something. Anyway, I really like your videos, glad you appreciate France, you should visit a bit more, like in the south, la Côte d'Azur, well... When this corona business will be over, I think you will like it. Much love,
I do not speak French at all. I would need to take lessons. Also would need a passport and learn of the laws and such. That's why I am looking into now... I could do something not directly in a Paris but love the idea of being able to take a quick train ride there. What is the difference between US dollars and euros?
Hi, I just discovered your channel, I am a French lady, it’s really interesting the vision that you have of France and the way you share your experience about French people. I like it !! I live around Paris, if you need help with French don’t hesitate! Happy New Year !
I did the Lingoda marathon (90 lessons in 90 days) at the end of 2019 and have continued the lessons into 2020 and it is by far the best way to learn a new language. I took four years of Spanish in high school and another year in college and still never got past a beginner level. I too a year of French in college and still only got to beginner level. Lingoda has catapulted me into a solid intermediate level and I’m still going strong.
It's a cakewalk to get a job in Paris IF you speak French and are willing to work for a construction firm. That doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have to work on a construction site however. Since the Grand Paris transit system overhaul, construction sites have been popping up at every street corner and it's ridiculous that you cannot turn your head without seeing a crane 🤣
What would you say is your level of French currently? I have been feeling frustrated about being stuck at B1 (I can call the repairman, but I have trouble understanding when the repairman actually tries to explain the problem) so am looking into Lingoda for the new year
Thanks for reminding prospective migrants that knowing the local language is key to find a job in a new country. I'd also recommend to have specific skills. Just being an English speaker is not enough to land a good job in France. Unemployment is relatively high and people are on average more educated than in the US. It's really common to have a "bac+5" (Master's degrees). And also ditch superiority complex "Emily in Paris" style, it won't fit in well within French companies.
I am an Indian in paris, just came few months ago and I dont really like it here because of the language barrier and the stuff Tiffany mentioned. Its sooo hard here for me, I feel like Paris is not the place for me 😂😂😂
Don't give up on Paris just yet. I'm sure you will never enjoy Paris as much as is possible until you get past the language barrier. Once you get past the language barrier I'm sure you will enjoy it much more!
Hi Tiff, Thank You so much for your videos. You honestly are a huge inspiration to me. I am someone who really wants to move to Paris, it's been my dream for the last three years actually but I don't know what job I can get. I've just come out of university and don't speak much french. Any tips on what jobs/ what I should do to move. Also how did you find making new friends in a city with no connections?
As a French All I need to do is definitely leaving this country where things are very complicated, also cost of living still super high for what you can earn so you guys should think twice before taking any decisions 🙏🏼
@Tiffanie Davis Question: I've heard the french really like to smoke. Is this bad in general or does it depend on the circumstance/location (as in outdoor only or inside certain buildings) or vary by person? Are there designated smoker/non-smoker areas? And do you have a rough idea how much they smoke? Kind regards 😊
Hi. Thanks for all the useful info! Could you do a video about French food. How it is different to what we eat here in the USA? Thank you. Love your pretty hair.
During the 2015 Holiday season, my sister and I stayed in a rental in the 5th arrondissement area of Paris, France. Is the 5th arrondissement expensive?
Totally off topic, but you remind me of Maggie from Greys Anatomy. Really love your informative videos! Hope one day I get to live the life of a Parisian.
I would love to start. I don’t speak no French at all. I didn’t do good in my Spanish class. I’m a very slow learner when it comes to languages. Are they working with students that can speak a bit French or it doesn’t matter
Heres my tricks : spend more time exposing yourself to french related contents , learn french slang ( white and african slang ) . I never been in us but trust me i can understand american english even ebonics
you should try starting off with a podcast like 'coffeebreak french' which starts off slow and covers a lot. it's free and is really easy to follow. Each lesson is about 20 minutes so you can listen on a commute to work or while you're chilling. Also, in regards to Lingoda - I've done it a few times. There are different levels, for someone such as yourself I would say start from level A1.1 which is beginners and you should be fine. Classes are a maximum of like 5 students who are at the same level as you.
They're working with students at all levels! The way it works is you select your level (you can even take a quiz to figure out what your level is) and then they share with you the classes available that are for your specific level. I'm a slow learner when it comes to languages too - watching shows in french on Netflix has definitely been helping though
I am looking into moving to Paris when I retire in about 6 years. If I wanted to live in Paris full time and live in my retirement of approximately 1800.00 US dollars what sort of apartment could I expect to get? I would be interested in information on living alone or maybe share with a roommate or two that might go with me from California. All info is appreciated.
I don't recommend moving to Paris necessarily. But rather in the verdant and clean eastern suburbs (and cheaper). It's just a 30 minute commute on the RER A to downtown Paris. I recommend cities like Nogent sur Marne, Champigny sur Marne, Joinville le Pont, Saint Maur, Alfortville, Villiers sur Marne etc... I suppose that rent will be around 800 euros for a 1 or bedroom apartment. But trust me living near the Marne river is 😍 That said, Paris and its surroundings are expensive AF (compared to most European cities). You're better off living almost anywhere else if work is not a concern. Eastern France, Western France and Southern France are way more affordable and cleaner/nicer than Paris.
You can get a Beautiful 1 bedroom apartment in the gorgeous medium sized city of Besancon pour 500€ per month and that would be an awesome place for retirement. You're close to the German and Swiss border. You have beautiful landscapes and some of the best wine, cheese and charcuterie in the world. And you can take the train to Paris once in a while. That's a far better solution
As always I love your video for it's content & music. I have followed with you thru you journey/challenges (i.e. having to move-& losing your job.) Hey Tiffanie! My question is how long are you able to stay in Paris after graduation without working? Can you do freelance work or would that require another visa type?
