Hikaru briefly lost his mind last night after barely losing bullet brawl. He was accusing people of throwing games to Naroditsky, saying people were resigning to Naro too early, etc. He seemed to think there was a big conspiracy against him, it was interesting..
it’s not a conspiracy people were genuinely resigning within 10 secs. against hikaru they don’t do that because they’d rather play him
or he was just tilting horribly because he didn't get to win his 20th Bullet Brawl. Also, Naroditsky had a couple of huge hot streaks towards the end. In addition, Naka was purposely trying for opening traps/cheese in the last few games so he could win as quickly as possible (he admitted this on stream). Those two reasons were probably why he barely lost to Naro

I'm a lowly 600 blitz after playing a couple of months, but I think the likelihood of hanging pieces goes way up when you play offbeat openers and unbalance your opponent. I've seen some board states 20x, but I've never seen my opponent run his H pawn to my side of the board.
It's all about pressure. People blunder more when you play good moves.

As a president of a university’s chess club (my online rapid is 1750), I can play against other chess club regulars giving them 7 queens on the back row, and still win. I show no mercy (the girl I did this too is someone I’m actively going out with). 1400 is real bad. That’s a difference of 28 points of material. She is probably more like 1200, but the point is that when there’s 500 let alone 1300 elo of difference between people, even a good game for a 1400 will look awful.
