Stories like this add so mich depth to a world. We didn't need to be told that humans were deathworlders or that the aliens were blah blah blah. This is what 'Soft Sci-Fi' should be like. We didn't linger on the undocking or the travel... just the interactions between the crew, their new animal expert and the cat.
A few years later, an encounter with some pirates, and he got himself his own pets; a riot shield and shotgun. Then earplugs. Really should've bought them at the same time.
I loved the background music. It gave it a feel of a "high energy high flying adventure". It worked especially well when the protagonist hurriedly packed their stuff, and ran through the space port. They might as well been shouting, "I'M GOING ON AN ADVENTURE", as they ran. It was the perfect sauce to go along with the delicious story entrée. The garlic butter dip to go along with a pizza (the dip is for the crust).
this is just amazing normally i listen to the "ohh humans eat literal solid death called "salt"" kinda stuff but this was a nice change of pace this was an amazing story(already said that, but it deserves being said twice)
As a cat-daddy, I really loved this one. My big old tuxie used to cry non-stop whenever I left, even though there were others there. She seemed to like them well enough when I was home, but when out for whatever, trying to move her away from the spot on the couch in front of the windows by the door was asking to have your couch shredded. Now, maybe 8 years or so later, Oreo is a bit more calm. Way back when I moved in here, maybe 5 years or so ago, she cried at the door when I left, but not so much now. Now most of the time she can't even be bothered to get off the back of Mike's easy-chair, although she's always facing the door. She likes the back of that chair, and will spend nearly every moment I'm awake laying on it, but always facing wherever in the condo I'm at. If I go into the kitchen, when I come out and return to my room she's always still laying there, still looking like she's out, but now facing the kitchen. Cats, eh?
Greetings, Mentlegent! For the Rhyhtm that is Algo I kept waiting for the bottom to drop out of the story, the twist in the tale. But no, simple, pleasant stuff.
"... there wasn't much call for a Veterinarian in space..." Bullshit. Doctors treat exactly one species: humans. Veterinarians treat multiple species across multiple earth Families (the scientific term). They will most likely be the first ones trained in treating non-Human sentient species due to those facts. A world renowned heart surgeon understands the human heart to an extremely high level, but working on a quadripedal alien with a cold blooded circulation system will be like asking him to use his surgical knowledge to become a chocolate chef. Cue Veterinarian with experience operating on reptiles.
Most likely a case of 'they liked pizza, but the pizza REALLY didn't like them...'

aye... fun as the 'big events' ones are... its often hard for those to tell any slice of life hearthy stuff without 'derailing' so to speak

People want their pets, wherever they go. Poor Pickle, latching onto the only seemingly normal thing she could find. But all's well.
This so far seems like a good series. I hope there are more chapters to come.
