Did it for us (Wrexham) can't remember if it was same amount but gesture is pure class when we came down. top man Marc love the win for them this weekend against maidenhead been watching BOA since charlwood S1 and hope Dorking have it in then to stay up go full time next year get up the league and go for promotion in 3/4 years from now, hopefully we go up this season and don't come back down 😂🏴
Much more interesting season this then previous. Seeing Marc and the team struggle is far more compelling than constant success. Very honest assessment from Marc, very impressive in the messages, delivery and post match. Intelligent manager who’ll no doubt turn it around.
As I long time Oldham fan, I can tell you that we just had a day out during this game. It was a massive turning point for confidence in our season though and the only shame was that it came at the expense of Dorking who have rapidly become my second favourite team in the division following a one week period of binge watching the early seasons of BOA to get ready for our first National League season. We know that we have a brilliant chairman these days but £500 behind the bar for the opposition fans is a touch of class from Marc and something that I know has gone a long way to creating a bond between the two clubs. No spoilers but now cheering both teams on to get away from the relegation zone.
"We just seem a bit unambitious to go forward" *Proceeds to score 5* Yeah... I'll accept my terrible takes and defend that we were surprised by the result, too! 🤣 Great stuff guys! Keep it up!
Not often we are privy to half time team talks, at the higher levels...... Can sense Marks frustrations and feel for him. They didn't have to work too hard for the 3 goals in the first half, a little too easy for an 'away' team. Dorking play good stuff, lots of possession but maybe need a bit of 'dog' type players in the squad. Just feel ( in my opinion ) that they are a little too 'nice' to play against. Sometimes teams have to dig and manage, especially when things are going against you!!!
At this point they lacked organisation and leadership at the back, since then they brought in Tony Craig and he's definitely help them improve, saw them play against Halifax Town and they looked much more solid.
I’ve been pointed to this by the Oldham page it’s going to be a binge.. love the set up at Dorking and I’ve already looked at trains from Cheltenham to Surrey…
Hi guys, Watched all the episodes which are fantastic. Find myself looking for the Wanderers results now every Saturday. Great show and really look forward to it. I'd love to make it to a game sometime, but living in Malta doesn't help. Fantastic show lads, keep up the good work.
Question: how did Dorking transition from being Mark's mates team to becoming a serious high-level amateur team and at the lowest levels of the semi-pro game? You must get to a point where you have to acquire the best amateur players around and move on from being a mates' team, where you're a serious amateur team without being semi-professional.
You literally just work your way up there’s so many leagues from the park to national league his mates would’ve probably stopped playing as they started getting higher due to age etc Alongside picking up the best players in the area / leagues at the time
Marc must have long had a well paid career in the early days to fund it too. I read in an interview with the Mirror that they “got the bug for winning”
As a Wrexham fan I’ve got massive amounts of respect and admiration to what Dorking have achieved. But Jesus, There's been more mistakes at the back than someone using a home anal bleaching kit in this game 😅 Marc was on the verge of barricading the door and taking hostages at the FT team talk.
500 smackers , 5 Goals and a trip away from Oldham What a day ! Mark you will have legend status maybe even a statue in Oldham town centre If you keep that up for an away trip
I was at the Maidenhead match yesterday. I've been curious to go and watch Dorking for a while and got my chance yesterday. It was interesting to watch Dorking's style of play, because the one thing you don't get to see on BOA episodes is how Dorking actually play! I know I'm not alone in having enjoyed watching Dorking play this season! Yesterday's formation was interesting. It was like a 3-1-2-4, or 3-1-3-3?! But they had Dan Gallagher as a holding player in front of the back 3, who could also drop in to make it a back 4. There was Muitt and Bowerman as wing-backs, who at times just stayed high and seemed to be part of a front 4 and not really have defensive duties! It seemed unusual to see a team play without full-backs or wing-backs in the conventional sense, or at least that's how it looked at times to me! I was trying to spot all the overloads Mark keeps talking about; Dorking went quite direct to Prior/Muitt and winning second balls. I really enjoy the fact the BOA episodes show how coaches talk about the game and tactics behind the scenes, instead of standard managers' post-match interviews where nobody really says anything insightful about the tactical side of the game.
Update: just started watching the episode - “surrogate centre half” was the term Marc used to describe Gallagher’s role! Don’t see football played that way very often!
Yesterday's game was a great showcase of Marc White's signature 3-5-2 when (almost) everything goes right. In possession, as you well noted, it becomes almost a 3-3-4/3-1-2-4 with the wide men pushing high up the pitch, while out of possession it looks more like a 4-4-2 with the CDM dropping deeper to defend in two banks of 4.
Please can we get a look at the full table at the start good sir. But from what we could see it looks like at 43, Dorking has scored more goals than anyone, correct? And the most goals against
I think marks being reluctant to play 4 at the back and allowing one wing back to push on attack is costing them alot in a league where they are simply put classed
27:30 yeah one of those questions. Had the same issue when I saw someone describing their CD for sale as Near Mint, then say it was almost mint in the description. Yeah that’s Near Mint, It’s either mint or near mint, if it’s mint it’s just mint, it’s never been touched. So trying to talk something that’s near mint up to being pretty much mint is futile. 😂 30:10 Nice of the ref to play the advantage for the team that committed the foul. But if you think that’s bad Bradford City had a match this season where in injury time with City trailing by a goal the ref waited until the goalkeeper for the opposition had taken his goal kick, stopped play, walked from the half way line to the penalty area and booked the keeper for time wasting, made him take the goal kick again, allowing their keeper to waste a few more seconds and didn’t add any time on to make up for the 2 minutes that was wasted for all that. Thanks ref! 30:50 That goal reminds me a bit of how I play chess. I make an almighty unforced fuck up that guarantees the other player the win.
Oldham simply were the better team, I was at this game. Fondup second goal was unreal. The 3rd goal was questionable and just in the half killed the game. The 4th goal should have been a foul and then confidence drops and uncharacteristic from Bobby for the 5th. Said Oldham would stay up after seeing their new signings.
Great episode aa usual. I’m not an avid follower of dorking or anything but to me whenever they seem to suffer a heavy one this season or don’t play well it seems to be with the 3 back at this level maybe a 4 would help the defence
I have been watching BOA for only a couple of weeks now but I'm wondering, why are the uploads of videos so far behind the actual games in the season??
When they are pressed they always go long with their wingers tryng to get in behind+the striker-They alaways try to play on the flank with nr 8 and nr 15. 8+15 are playing well togheter-big form-hight confidence->biggest threat!! When they try to cross is awlays going to the far post, we always need to defend their striker in the box.The cross is always searching for him at the far post->this is very important to remember, they are searching with cross at the far post from both flanks. If the ball is in the middle of the park the tendence for them is to try to search for nr 15 and 8.They are vulnerable on counter-attacks, their players are prone to defensive mistakes-we need crosses form the byline if possible if not we need to return the ball to our midflielders, they need to always try to create something->trough balls to the wings and strikers.nr 8 will always look to do something when on the ball, we need to get stuck in tackes early-> WE CAN NOT PROBE HIM! Once the ball is at his feet usualy tries to cut in we need to go eary into the tackle we need to get stuck this is very very important DO NOT PROBE HIM!Their keeper is vulnerable to floated crosses. Their defence play with a lot of heart but that some times can be a weekness in their game, if we can play smart with our head always calm in possesion we can do something here-this should be the main theme of the match CALM IN POSSESION you always think before you pass no need to rush just CALM IN POESSESION. if we play one-twos arround their defenders in the final third we can be a threat-we need to always incomodate the keeper hes vulnerable to mistakes.their defence tends to be late in pushing the line up witch can give us a chance to go outside the box with a shot or much more preferably a pass into the wingers.nr 15 is very dangerous very skilled-he always tries to go forward-we need to stop hiim from passing to nr 8-nr 15 ussualy is the support player that carries the ball for an overlaping nr 8, of in most cases hes trying to cut inside.Once more is very very important to get stuck in, DO NOT PROBR HIM/sliding tackels if necessary. Defence play on their flanks is pretty poor we can always exploit this.we can also exploit long balls, they tend to be prone to mistakes. Our attacks should come trough the middle of the park or our right flanks so we can keep the ball far away from their main threats 8 and 15.Low concentration from their striker, keeper should keep that in mind and try to focus more if 1 on 1 because is a pretty good chance the will save the shot. And that is how i would play in my Dorking save vs Maidenhead on football manager:)) I really love this club, i really hope you guys can bounce back because its really wonderfull what you did at the club PS: this report is based on the last games of Maidenhead, i tried to do it as realistic as possible, i have absolutly no ideea how to do a scout report, i just tried to have a lil bit of fun, hope i dident offended anyone,Gaffer i was messing with you:)) your are a pretty awsome coach Cheers from Romania! Go Dorking!
4-3-3 with inverted full backs is the answer with this team. As good as fuller is he might need to step down for a younger full back for these tactics. Needs fast skilful fullbacks. Bobby perfect for the inverted role. Just needs an extra day or 2 training to make his mark
Not the best game from the team, but that happens. I do wish there were more repercussions for officials though. Their decisions meet very few real results for them but can cost managers and players a career. The ref wasn't great today
Hey Tommy, BoA don’t always get to film every Dorking fixture, either because of availability to film or just not getting access to film at some grounds. For Southend it was the latter.
Only a few mins in and can I say, £500 behind the bar for the away fans? What an absolute class act Mark is. He did not have to do that. What a man!
Legendary!
What could mark have possibly said that’s worthy of beeping?! He’s already said everything under the sun ❤😂
500 behind the bar for the Oldham fans is absolutely class 👏 Never heard any clubs doing that for the away fans when playing at home

Class act. Wrexham gave free bottles of Lager to Dorking fans in the local pub & also gave them free half time snacks. What footie should be about 👏
It happens quite often tbh
wow what a speech from mark, the passion and desire unbelievable. how could you not want and go play your heart out for 45 after that!

The Oldham chairman is a top lad! Would love to go pinting with him
Doesn't help when you're only part time against most of the teams in that league that are full time professionals.
“This is wet rain”😂😂😂

😬 Might not steal that metaphor! But you're not wrong.

What a hilarious metaphor this is. Absolutely going to use this with our shoddy defence when we get out pants pulled down next. Too funny.
Kinda feel there is a bit of a bond between us and dorking
500 smackers , 5 Goals and a trip away from Oldham

I think he's out of his depth to be honest. Fair fucks for getting them this, of course

Are the teams who Mark "doesn't want to be playing at" on Patron instead of bleeped out 👀
Bleeped then there too!
