    I have loved your show from the beginning of the show . I first saw Rush on Jose Wejebe Spanish fly my man crush fishing show , there have been several Guides on his show that stand out but Rush and Nick S. Stand out the most to me . Great content most of the west coast fishing I have only experienced once on a 1.5 day head boat to Catalina island when I was 15yrs old. At the time I was on a vacation with my mother who had recently divorced so it was really for her . We went from San Diego to Santa Barbra in a 3week window. I also fished off the Santa Barbra pier as luck would have it and local knowledge from a resident pier fisherman Mario , I learned a lot about fishing on a pier cause I’m from Arkansas in the ozarks all and most of my knowledge came from flip pallot and Jose . Anyway I had fished the pier for almost a week straight when I had an epiphany. There was a restaurant right next to the bait store on the pier.. that was going to be my fishing spot I rigged my spinning rod I had purchased for the headboat trip rigged with a dead dean over the rail and what do u know I hooked and landed with help of course the largest pacific halibut that had ever been caught I. The pier super excited had made friends of all the local fisherman even got my pic in the bait store bragging board, another cast to the same spot whamo the largest pacific halibut that’s ever been caught on the pier instant celebrity got a second picture right next to the first one, being my mom and I were staying in a motel I gave away my fish to my friends on the pier. So my plan as a young man was to grow up a little more and go back to the pier in Santa Barbra to rekindle my spirit and to see if my records have been beaten. Well I found out that the whole pier burnt down and it started in the restaurant right next to the bait store . So sad but still a great story maybe you guys can visit Santa Barbra and fish for the almighty halibut. My first fish weighted 18lbs and the 2nd fish was 28lbs

    The Monomoy rips are a blast. I fished down there a few summers back and 4 out of 5 boats that we were around all ran aground out there. The fifth boat being us, we got lucky. Wasn’t too hyped about almost jumping into that water with white sharks to get the boat off the shoals.

      @@LocalKnowledge there's sea bass with lures, nothing like those strippers, blue and porbeagle sharks get caught on deadbaits. Recently a guy caught 2 bluefin but it's illegal to target them. So yes mate not much sportfishing happens here when compared to the US and lots of other places, fairly crap it is. Plenty of other fishing to enjoy, just not action like you get.

    I do all my fishing on the cape. Loved this video but I have one point of criticism. Ali said that the only two species that come to mind are the bluefin tuna and the striped bass. Our offshore fishery is just as good as Southern California, if not better. We catch bigeye tuna, yellowfin, wahoo, blue marlin, and Mahi at the canyons and even catch Mahi and yellowfin inshore depending on the year.

    When I was a kid, I THINK about 1966 or so there were huge bluefin tuna under the dock in P-town because there were pods of killer whales all over, some guy harpooned one and it over 600 pounds. All the tuna traps between North Truro and P-Town were full and people were harpooning them from 13 foot Boston Whalers. Massive dead tuna with huge bites out of them were laying on the beach in Wellfleet, pretty epic.

    If in the north east you should also check out a few other fish. Haddock, tautog and black sea bass. They may not be what is considered sport fish but they are damn good eating fish. Massive amounts of people go out for tautog and black bass every year. Stay away from the party boats and try to get out to Block Island on a smaller boat, the fish are all over the place though so you should do ok no matter where you go with an experienced captain

      @@LocalKnowledge They sure are fun and damn tasty. They can be caught abundantly off the Cape but the biggest I've ever caught have been of RI. Double digit weight Tog are a hoot but stay smaller for eating fish. The large ones are females(breeders) anyways so it's best to let them go. Save several and if you have a cook or place to then they are great anyway. Baked, blackened(pan). fry them(fish n chips) and/or they are awesome in creamy fish chowder. Be Well and tight lines
      PS Check your dates when you go and if off Block Island then work in some 'slob' Stripers

    I think it was 1964 but the Bluefin where in Cape Cod Bay thick, and they were huge. There were 700 pound tuna under the dock in Provincetown and there were dozens of Orca and Great Whites out there, there were 500 pound tuna washed up on the beach in North Truro and Welfleet with huge bites out of them. They were harpooning them from 13 foot Boston Whalers and tossing barrels out to wear the fish down and the Tuna Traps were packed full at low tide, was pretty spectacular.

    I respect American fisherman because I never saw an overhaul of Blue fin tuna in a warehouse at one time like I saw in videos of Japan. I think we all should
    Think of it as a Special Treat and not everyday meal if it’s a fish that’s supply in ocean is diminishing and we can’t replenish with more stock.

    • @kcheong00
      @kcheong00 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Problem is Japan is buying Tuna from all around the world. Which is am actually quite sad about because they won't be around at the rate we are going
      In Australia, we don't see any of those large blue fins in the markets. They are all exported because in Japan they pay higher prices.
      Shame because i love fatty tuna but its almost impossible to get unless you get terrible cuts/low quality or find a boat that will take you out to catch tuna.
      ($1500 + for the charter and no guarantee of catching one)
      We only get the smaller tuna because the giants fetch such high prices

      They are illegal in most places in the pursuit of game and given their short flight time, not really practical. Planes are still king when it comes to fish spotting.

    You can run but you just can't hide!...The future of Blue fin tuna looks pretty dire, and the end is nigh I'm afraid .The use of aircraft, advanced fish finding ability ,with a general free for all will see to that.of all the methods I've seen ,this has got to be the most eco friendly method ,but of course this could never supply the world's insatiable demand.

      Rob Tee the fishing for large striped bass in 40 ft of water in early June off of Jones Beach is incredible. Snag and drop bunker style fishing often produces many large bass. Not many people know this. Everyone knows about the fall run further east when the fish are coming down the coast

      Up north in MA, the bass fishery is still going through Oct but most people switch over to giant fishing. Who cares about dinky bass when you have 600lb fish only a few miles out.

    what would be the price of this two species at the fish market?

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really depends on cut, fresh or frozen, etc. Bluefin at retail can sell for $12 to $100+ per pound depending on the cut and grade.

    First fish didn't die immediately from electrical zap . I'm sure many tuna have gotten hit from misplaced shots , wounding them ,but they got away , UNTILL a shark smelled them . I like fishing, but I'd rather get hooked then speared in some body part . Not many tuna spear fishermen use electrocution to kill fish. Granted it is more humane but you use it to save quality of meat. That's fine. Just don't like harpoons , especially when they wound a tuna that swims of. It's dead but not yet.

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback. It's not for everybody but it is unarguable the cleanest commercial fishery in the world. The first fish was dead in 30 min and retrieved immediately there after.
