I just love this guy, he’s a great player and teacher but he also shares his love and enthusiasm for the music. He’s constantly complimenting the songs and the musicians that played the songs. Always so positive. Makes me always click on his lessons, even when I’ll never be able play it that way.

PRACTISE - it's as simple as That! Do an 8 hour shift same as you would any job...

@@MrBrindleStyle, only it’s not as simple as that. I have injuries that decrease the dexterity in my left hand, injuries I’ve spent years rehabbing but will never have full dexterity.

@MrBrindleStyle sport, you can practice as much as you want, but if your personality is rigid then you will never play like Andy. You are correct on the practice, hours everyday, never miss a day, and for years, but more important is letting go of yourself (some blokes really need to let go), and letting the passion take over, best examples are Kossoff and Page.

Thank you, thank, thank you! I'm 67 and am trying to break out of my comfort zone, ie, just strumming chords. I have trouble understanding what people are doing on videos and, most of the time, tell myself I'm too old to learn anything else but your instruction was perfect and totally understandable to me.

The real "secret weapon" on the Moondance album is the bass player, John Klingberg! Outstanding playing.

The bass playing seems to be an ongoing theme in Van Morrison's music. Almost always a killer bass line driving his songs. Of course those tasty double stops, great lyrics and that voice aren't too shabby either.

Thanx so much for this brilliant tutorial/lesson...I picked up the guitar at a very young age, (14), and recently have been re-learning a lot of songs from my youth...Back then, I could read music,( I still can ;) ) but only for clarinet or piano. My friend taught me the basic guitar chords, and I taught her how to "read" the music on our sheet music...After that, I played the guitar mostly by ear, ( i.e. listening to the radio and trying to capture it on a tape recorder !! lol ). I also always watched the guitar player's chord hand, no matter what concert/club/pub/cabaret or "jam" that we partook of. I'm thankful for the "invention" of TH-cam video's that are now available for me to actually see how to do it the right way. Once again, thanx @Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials for the great upload ! Slainte, Skol, Proost, Cheers !

Hey Andy, if i have learned one thing from you, (oh i've learned A LOT!), it's how you approach your strumming, and the importance you put on it! You definitely exude fluency, keep your hand moving! It is a hard habit to get into, but so worth the practice. Thanks mate, it really does make a difference, especially in being able to let the passion juices flow into a song!

Van and I spent time in the same town in Marin Ca. He left long before I moved there . He was on a great street at the end.He was also in a quiet valley in Marin and would go straight to the front of the line at local market, cause he was Van! I hope he wrote songs there? His parents owned a music store in this Marin small town. Marin was magical for songs coming from the Mystic usually in the middle of the night. Darn it I forgot most of them, too lazy to record stuff.

I was stuck in a tiny fishing village in the Philippines for 3 months and all we had to listen to was Moondance (or Philippines sugar-pop) . They're all class but Mystic is the best - the strumming + those fills - always wanted to play it - I should have worked it out but now I don't have to . Thanks.

Hey Andy, you know what would be really cool? If you, Marty Schwartz, James James, and Rick Beato would get together and make a video - all on the screen at the same time in your normal settings, playing the same song, taking turns at verses, solos, etc. - collectively that would be a significant audience and the ad money raised could go towards helping our front line health care workers - just a thought.
