Pearl Jam is one of those rare bands that burst the boundaries of the genre that birthed them...Thanks for the marathon, Eric...Like so many, Ten was my introduction...Funny thing is, I was one of those with a mini-disc player for a blink, and Ten was about the only mini disc I could ever find that I wanted and I played it to death! Pearl Jam is also part of one of my top concerts: Music Midtown 2012 in Atlanta with Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters...Pearl Jam did TWO encores of 4 songs each, the last three being Black, Alive, and Neil Young's Rockin' In The Free World...As Nick is fond of saying, "On another level"...

When I was 17 a good friend of mine and I got tickets to the yield tour. We took a bus 2.5 hours with all strangers and had a blast. One of the better shows I’ve seen. That show was such a vibe.

I haven't purchased a Vedder album since his solo work Ukele Songs back in 2010 or so. The first tune, "Can't Keep" is magnificent fury from just his big expressive voice and a ukulele pushed to its limits. Thanks for this marathon a million times!! It reminded me to pull out Ten and chill for the rest of the evening.

Finally got to this reaction this evening. Like you Nick, I only have the Ten album, mainly because of 'Jeremy', but all these songs were so enjoyable. I'm pretty sure I've heard 'The Bottom Man' before, although I don't know where, but it was great and so were all the others. I have to listen to more Pearl Jam. Thanks Eric for the pointers.

I only knew the hits until about 10 years ago when I saw the biopic PJ20. Did a deep dive after that, grew a monstrous playlist of studio and live tracks, and now the Holy Trinity of U2, Dave Matthews Band, and Pearl Jam is complete.

Eddie is such an amazing lyricist, singer, everything....it shows to me that he's such a huge fan of Pete Townshend and The Who that he has performed with them many times. That's the level of nuance and growth this band has shown over the decades.

Great marathon Eric. I'm like Nick in that I lost track of Pearl Jam after 2000. Nice deeper cuts. Loved Given To Fly. Really takes me back. Loved that era of tunes and those times in general. I remember the Singles soundtrack with Breath from Pearl and Seasons from Chris Cornell. So good. I'm sure Lex will love this.👍P.S. One of my first concerts was Gun“s N Roses opening for RATT of all things. Hilarious. Was never a fan but friends wanted to go. That was in the late 80's. Wow.

Better Man has been a controversial song, because it's lyrics can be applied to so many different relationship dynamics. I saw them live the evening Bill Clinton admitted he had a fling with Monica Lewinsky. Vedder stopped the show, and they put the live news feed on big screens as it was being aired to the rest of the world. Afterwards, Vedder said, "This next song is dedicated to Hillary."
Over the years they've dedicated this song to multiple women.

I consider Blink 182 as classic Rock lol
K here’s my soft rock alternative list not my all time ballad list by them as I don’t know them that much yet.
INDIFFERENCE.I would choose the “Elderly Woman behind the counter in a small town” Not sure why it’s so long a title ?
BETTER MAN. Is def my choice on this album, the lyrics get me every time I can’t imagine how people go thru those times. I think the song is about a woman trapped in an abusive relationship I read Vedder said it’s about his mom n pops though I’m not sure.
GIVEN TO FLY. One of my faves of them all so far. I’d suggest y’all listen to “Wish list” from the same album and my 2nd fave from the album “In hiding” u def shud listen to those songs in ya own time. This song is the feeling I get when I’m surfing an all the mess of the world is back on the beach I’m out here on the waves. That’s what this song means to me
THUMBING MY WAY not a song I would listen to he’s a bit mumbly like the actor in that Batman movie. This is a a nice folk song though id still not purposefully seek it out. I’d strongly suggest “I am mine” I think more people would like that one better and we get a great bit of guitar play.
AMONG THE WAVES not on my current best of playlist but hearing it for the second time I really like it and I forget there was guitar play. Also makes me think of waiting for a drop in (as in surfing) My suggestions for the soft rock songs from that album would be; “Force of Nature”, “Unthought Known” (best soft rock song on the album), Just Breath best folk song by them I guess.
SIRENS what a great song. This is from my 2nd fave album by them, fave song from that album is “lightning bolt”, my alternate suggestions would be “swallowed whole” I’d suggest listening to “Records play” has a real 70’s glam rock vibe about it though I’m not really sure what glam rock is it just reminds me of that T-Rex kinda sound
This was a great play list I wish I’d heard something from my fave album Gigaton like maybe “Seven o’ clock” That song is awesome or maybe “River Cross” but I can’t disagree with this list except for Thumbing my way.
My fave song by them so far is their cover of The Who song “Reign over me” I looked it up it’s in an Adam Sandler Movie . I’ve seen them perform it live and it was so nuclear the whole crowd exploded! And Now Dark matter more my kinda Jam!
I kinda like modern music over old tunes but Pearl Jam you just can’t ever not like or not love ❤️ Thanks for the list and thanks for the video 🤟

When he wants, Sandler can act--most of his drama roles are solid performances getting praise and some nominations for awards way more prestigious than a Golden Raspberry. This movie is heart wrenching, about loss, with co-star Don Cheadle and an awesome soundtrack of course.@@jmurray2018

I'm old enough to where I used to record my cds onto cassette tapes a lot because I couldn't afford a player for my first car. Does anyone remember trying to fit that last song in on a mix tape?
Given to Fly recorded about 40% of the way through the song before the tape ran out so I flipped the tape and started it on the other side but now at 40% through the song, I always remember making that tape.
It got to the point where I knew the crossover spot on the first side that I could just hit the reverse play and skip that first 20% of the song on the 2nd side. 😂

When "10" came out in 1993, it changed music forever and "Vitology" also rocked when it came out. If you listen carefully to the end of "Better Man" you can hear the similarities with 80's New Wave group English Beat and their song "Save It For Later".
