I’ve always loved Hugh Grant as an actor but his transformation to an 80’s rock icon in this movie made me respect his range and commitment to the role.
Still amazed at what an absolutely note-perfect parody this is. The halo filter on the lens. The hair of the women and doctor and the band. The effects. The music. Just perfection, and a great way to open the movie.
+Laceykat66 this song was released in 2007 for the romantic comedy movie Music And Lyrics which stars Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. The band called POP was actually a fictional band inspired from the 80s band called Whan and Duran Duran. The lead singers of the POP Band (Fictional) was Hugh Grant And Scott Porter, both Hollywood actors...
Which I was so amazed that they nailed this "1980s" hit. They got it so right it style and decor. Not easy to get right when you try and parody an era.

I agree that the movie is underrated -- the message is actually quite profound (about creative/artistic redemption for the characters played by Hugh and Drew), and it is Grant's best role since About a Boy. I love the redemption aspect because it makes the film worth watching again and again. Drew's character helps Hugh feel that he can write songs again, and with his encouragement, she feels that she can write poetry again (as song lyrics). They both had their confidence crushed -- Drew by the vile award-winning, best-selling writer played by Campbell Scott who wrote a nasty book parodying her as a budding poet, and Hugh by the break-up of his band and loss of his lyricist and song-writing partner "Colin" (clearly modeled on George Michael). Colin became incredibly famous while Hugh was forgotten. The two characters heal each other as artists -- it is actually quite a beautiful message. The film is also delightfully funny.

2 Things that amuse me every time: the drummer and the fact that Hugh Grant is probably the most tense British Pop Star of all time. 😂😂 love that movie!
Just saw the movie on Netflix and I just love this song. I hadn't seen the movie in a while and I still remembered the words to this song. It's just done so well. They do a great job representing the 80s. The song is so fun and upbeat. I feel happy when I hear it.
As an 80s baby this would have been a big hit!! Who knew Hugh Grant could sing. I found that out when I added it to my 2023 playlist and he was listed as the artist.
I used to have this song on constant repeat and when he said that part, I would crack up. It was supposed to be cheesy and it's one of my favorite songs ever!
I absolutely LOVE this song. It’s so 80s but in a 2007 film that even sounds fabulous in 2024 (a Eurovision winner surely?), and takes me right back to my childhood and teen years. Those wiggling hips from Hugh and great singing voice too🔥🔥 and I’m now 51!!! Took me ages to find out who the other gorgeous bloke is but I knew I’d seen him somewhere else: it’s Scott Porter that is a singer (not sure if this is his voice, but he is great on clips I’ve seen- check out “carry on wayward son”) and was in Hart of Dixie!
My mom use to love this movie when i was little, she just put it on again after so many years and I just sang this song word for word. She looked at me so suprised😂😂
I just can't get enough of this song. Lost count of the times I keep coming back to it! Love love love the expressions, the dance, every little thing in re-creating 80s-early 90s era.
I cannot watch this clip without laughing. So funny and SO 80's. What a great movie this was and this song is such an 80's song. I reckon it would of went to number 1 had it really been out in the 80's. Such a catchy chorus
A brilliant mashup up of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and ABC influences. I hear 'Gold' by Spandau, the crisp posh English pronunciation of ABC's Martin Fry and the floppy hair, ruffles, tie fashions of Martin Fry and Duran's Simon Le Bon.
This is more 80's than the 80's

Me! I just did it! great song and movie!
I loved the 80s and love this song because it’s so on point. Light, bright, -and synthesizers.
Hugh Grant has a nice singing voice.
I didn't know I needed this until last night when I finally watched Music & Lyrics 😱😂😍
Courtney's Grotto them pop goes....
That's why Today I'm here
The people who produced this music makes a fantastic 80's song. It sounds very, very good 80's.
Hello Sandy how are you doing?
'pop! Goes my heart'. Stuck in my head since 07'. And now I remembered it again. Great...
How has this only had 11million views, I must've watched this a million times in the last 24 hours...
This song would have really been the biggest hit of 1984!
Well one of them at least!
This never gets old to me. I wish they would play this on the radio
if this had actually come out in the 80s it would've been a hit
2021 and it is still putting a big smile on my face . Enjoy this beautiful nostalgia guys .
man i still remember this hit from 30 years ago, i was 10 at the time. man, those where the days! the 80s i loved them so much! i miss them!
??? This wasnt 30 years ago!! Lol
+Al Capone this song is from a movie, which is from 2007, but ok haha :D
+Desirée Rodríguez duhhh, it's a joke.
unematrix hehehe I know
Desirée Rodríguez funny...
the cheesiness in the 80's plus the song. brilliant
As an 80s baby this would have been a big hit!! Who knew Hugh Grant could sing. I found that out when I added it to my 2023 playlist and he was listed as the artist.
Best 80s video that isn’t actually from the 80s!
This SHOULD have been an '80s hit!
Fav part of the song is every time he says " And i just cant let you go" wish they made more music like this now a days lol
I used to have this song on constant repeat and when he said that part, I would crack up. It was supposed to be cheesy and it's one of my favorite songs ever!
If you're not clapping then you're doing it wrong.
James Wilson notarios ithete
No friend, now I'm dancing and moving my hips
James Wils
all my nieces and nephews will know this song
yes, that is true. but I also think you need the classic moving head from left to right
I absolutely LOVE this song.
My 16 year old daughter and I watched Music and Lyrics the other day and she fell in love with this song. She can’t stop listening to it haha.
I can't believe Hugh Grant participated in this! He always comes across as so surly and sarcastic!!!
My mom use to love this movie when i was little, she just put it on again after so many years and I just sang this song word for word. She looked at me so suprised😂😂
Never gets old.
Am I the only one who loved Scott Porter's singing and dance moves? Thought he was a perfect. Love this movie and Hugh Grant!
I saw this movie years and years ago, and it’s just come onto Netflix and this has been rediscovered in my brain
One of the best openings to a film ever. It was clever and way ahead of its time before the 80s got romanticized to death.
Well romy & michelle had started that 1st wave of 80s romantacism in their 1997 film
Still here in 2021! Ha, what a throwback. I was obsessed with this movie & song in elementary.
This super Popsong should be in the international charts sometime once upon.
I also love this movie, I feel it's a really underrated rom com and no one remembers it 😢. Watched it on Valentine's Day 💘
Oh my god I haven't heard this in years and I still know all the lyrics! I LOVE IT!
