    It’s cool to see how before the 50s, drummers always used the ride. But after that they started using the hi-hat instead.

      Yes, indeed hi-hat took the scene after the 50s. May be it's just that in the 40s hi-hat was still to young :)

    Great video. Thank you! I bought a nitro mesh kit a couple years ago. Well worth it for practice, with EZ Drummer 3. You have unlimited sets pretty much. A real drum set doesn't compare. But you can play any time on the little electronic kits.

      Here we are talking about the top of the chart 80s metal (easiest song of Metallica for example). That's what was trendy at that time.

    Drumming has evolved in spectacular fashion! Check Nathan Frost album titled Synecron. Several drummers play on this album, Virgil Donati plays some very neat stuff on piece 'Singularity'

      @@aTF2player yes, mostly it's hi-hat in quarter notes and crash on the 1 but there is a part in the song where he plays crash in every quarter the way I'm doing.

    Reggaeton beat is pretty simple but I've seen some videos of live drummer doing some pretty creative stuff to the songs adding influences of different Latin drumming genres/Afro Cuban styles into it. Also where's the trap/mumble rap drumming with all the rolling/triplet hi-hats? 😂😂

      Thats not true. There was just a good era for drums. There are plenty of over complex drum patterns in modern genres

      @@lucamcardle729 Yes, you are right there are extremely complex grooves in contemporary music of many different genres but in this video I focused on the most popular music of each decade, the "top of the chart" type of music.

      Thanks! I actually did quite some research to determine which was the trendiest groove for every decade and for trendiest I mean the one belonging to the genre at the top of charts in those years.

      @@Pietro.Valente it's fairly easy to see the evolution of the drumset, but I'm more interested in the playing of it, and I don't see any source confirming people actually played drums like in this video (about 1865 and 1890, because there aren't drums recordings)
