Some people thought it was a private concert only for them and took distracting photos, to the displeasure of their fellow concert goers, not to mention Gary and the others who were on stage with him at the time.
...Good evening Trudy, I was present at this concert in 1976 and so I saw the event happen live! Gary Burton just stopped playing and asked to remove the photographers!
@@trudywretched ...Good morning Trudy, The story in short...I was 15 years old at the time, and most likely one of the youngest in attendance. There were not many people to be seen in the hall of the old Tivoli in Utrecht. Gary Burton started his solo intro on the vibraphone very focussed, while photographers were still shooting pictures with flashlights. You could clearly see that Gary was incredibly annoyed by this stuff, and decided to take a break for a moment. And then, you can guess the sequel with such highly regarded musicians; not such a pleasant outcome for the photographers concerned... Have a nice day...
@@J3unG I am an idiot or more accurately Guitarded. About this time I took a lesson or two from Mick. He and John Abecrobie filled in for a Howard Roberts week long seminar. MR guitar Roberts had trouble waking up from his intoxicaticants by his own admission .I found Mick and John to be quite inspiring .Howard Roberts left some jingle charts and ran home to CA. Pat,Mick and John were on the cutting edge of a new approach . How does one train a person to be a be a road warrior? Give them cat treats when they give a good lick or two? Lol
Check out at Joe Locke, Stefon Harris, Warren Wolf, Tony Miceli, Dave Friedman, Behn Gellice, Simon Moullier, David Patrois playing before saying no more vibraphone. Those musicians make the Vibes community growing and young talents emerging. Gary is special. He’s a genius. That doesn’t mean others can’t do their own stuff. Music is infinite
I don't know for certain. About 25 years ago I had friends in Europe that I used to trade cdrs with, through the mail. These tracks, in this order, were on a cdr that I got from one of them. I don't know of an lp release where Burton plays Sirabhorn with Metheny. When they played this song, on this tour, in Oslo, Burton solos first. In this version, Pat solos first. Maybe it is the encore from this show. Or perhaps it is from a different recording and was put on the cdr I have, as filler.
@@thearchive6605 The way the prior track fades makes me think that it is filler from a studio recording but I'm not familiar enough with his records. The show is up on Dimeadozen now without the last 3 tracks and perhaps better quality but that could be the TH-cam compression
@@theGrape I'm confused about whether or not it is ultimately a good idea to share audio on youtube. My hope is that more people get to hear it, it makes more fans for the artists, and if you want a higher quality copy you can go find it.
@@thearchive6605 I think sharing music is good - easy for folks to listen and not everyone is as obsessed as you and I about music trading ;~} p.s. I started recording live music at shows in 1972 (Ry Cooder and Captain Beefheart and Zappa a large number of times)
It's real good to be hearing GB again~~~
I got to see Pat and Gary (and probably Steve and Dan) in 1977 at Univ of Oregon in Eugene. Wonderful memory. Thanks for sharing.
Great group!! 👍👊

20:06 maravilloso tema!
Amazing!
23 Year old Danny 22 year old Pat !
Mick Goodrick who was in the first incarnation of this band let Pat take all the air out of the room and quit the road life.
That's not what happened, bro. Mick trained Pat so he could quit the road. He was sick of it. you're an idiot.
Mick? the sloppy tinny frustrated tyrant? That Mick?

Enlightened beings speak their mind without culturally-conditioned restraint.
You never hear the vibraphone played anymore! What a tragedy.

What is the name of this recording? Was it issued as LP?
It wasn’t.
@@thearchive6605 then how does it come about?
I believe it was played on the radio in Europe, where it was either recorded by a fan, or the original recording was copied.
is Sirabhorn from an LP or was it live at this show?
