Great question. From my understanding, Underworld Goddess is a link 5 monster card. Its requirements are 4+ Effect Monsters which one of them can be from your opponent's side. Aqua Argonant is a link 4 monster. Had he used Aqua Argonant as one of the monsters as an requirement he still would of have to use one more monster which would equal link 5 and that would only include 2 monsters and not 4. Which is why he used 3 effect monsters from his side and Coral Anemone from my side which is a link 2 monster. 3+2= 5 Link.
