house's motto is truth will set you free. you can't help someone if you can't diagnose someone and you can't diagnose someone if you don't know the truth. house is invasive in order to help friends
As much as he pretends otherwise, House does care. He'll mask it in jokes, he definitely crosses boundaries (be they ethical, legal, or anything really), and he will obsess and take things up to 11, but he cares. Tragic part is he knows he can't be a friend or partner the way others can. He knows he's messed up, he just tries to use it for good ends (even if the means are dubious).
I wish the series actually showed Wilson’s interaction with his brother. The writers were strategic in making Wilson an oncologist. Wilson has experienced more loss and death as an oncologist in a month than most people will ever experience in their lifetime. You have to also account for Wilson’s three divorces, Amber’s death, Sam returning only to leave him when he proposes, and what you see here with Wilson’s brother. That’s why he clings on to House’s friendship as they both know that they will never leave each other no matter what and why Wilson is House’s only true friend. I guess Wilson’s friendship with House being a constant is what keeps him going in life given what he has experienced in his life and career and will continue to experience in the oncology profession.
I think that's the beauty of House Most people don't care, so they'll say something comforting House won't say that, but he'll show up for you to support you

I can relate to this interaction. My good friend and roommate at the time had his father die at 4:45 on Christmas day a few years back. He texted me when it happened explaining that they had opened gifts, had dinner, and were settling in for dessert when they noticed he was very still. I got back to our apartment from my family Christmas three hours before him reflecting on what to say and what he is probably hearing from those close to him and how tiring consolation can be when its nothing but cliche platitudes. So when he walked in the door I was there preparing a drink for us. We stood in silence for a few seconds until i broke the silence stating, "I know your family has been trying to tell you "its ok" or "everything will heal with time" but in reality this pain you feel, this loss, will hurt for a long long time. And it wont stop until one day you wake up and the pain is a little less. The next day the pain is a little more bearable until eventually there will be no pain, no loss but a sense of gratitude for the time spent with your dad." He looked down and stepped forward to give me a hug (the first and last time we have done this) saying thank you for being real with me. He had endured canned sympathy for hours and when he came home I gave him something real and it was what he needed. Since then, this is how i give feedback. Sure the canned responses are nice but people can tell when youre not being real.
I think I have an untapped bottomless well of grief about my mother's death that makes me scared to even confront it, I just buried the hurt and don't know if it'll ever resurface.

At 2 minutes and 4 seconds house has the fork out of his breast pocket and his fingers on the fries. But at 2 minutes and 6 seconds he's still looking for the fork in his coat
Did anybody else notice when House stole Wilson’s sandwich and whipped out a fork from his jacket. Does he always have a fork?? And why does he need it for a sandwich and French fries???!
No. Joey on Friends had one, He came home and found Chandler and Rachel eating a spilled cheesecake on the hallway floor. He studied the situation pulled out a fork, smiled and joined them.
A lot of people carry their own silverware, especially in cafeteria spaces (where utensils have to be pre-laid out and are often not pre-wrapped in plastic), bc its more sanitary. In a hospital setting it isn’t a bad idea- the most likely place you are to get a random infection is a hospital.
If Wilson had just said “it’s sucks I’ll have to miss the trucks, rain check for sure” House probably wouldn’t have gone digging. He just haaaad to say he never liked them

That last bit got me. Everyone else would offer him comforting words but House would actually go along with him to support him.

The hurt on House’s face when Wilson said he didn’t like monster trucks :(

House carrying an empty plate to Wilson's table...premeditated
Not to mention casually pulling a fork out of his pocket

House eats fries with a fork. Perfection.
Right after he picked them up with his hands, and then placed them on the fork, with his hands as well lol.
And that fork came from his jacket pocket. Unwrapped.

I like House but goddamn it. How does anyone stop from assaulting him?!
Suspension of disbelief...
He has said before that the fact he's crippled lets him get away with a lot more. Also, people *have* assaulted him. He literally got shot one time
