      All right So the birds that were screaming like their loved ones for the emotional torture. They're called jabberjays. They were a creation of the capital to spy on the districts and these birds could apparently basically remember full conversations but they were easily spotted and the people in the district started feeding them false information. So the capital quickly dumped the concept and let them all go into the wild because they were all male. They couldn't breed well. They started breeding with female mockingbirds creating the Mockingjay. Hence the reason it's a symbol of hope and rebellion against the capital

    The thing with Peeta's painting of Rue is, I think, an outright mistake in adaptation, judging by how many people misread it... and how fair that misreading is. In the book, the Gamemakers were so disturbed that Katniss's assessment was half an hour or so late while they cleaned it up, and she didn't find out about it until Peeta told everyone later in the apartment. That would be too talky for the movie, so I get why they changed it, but people reading it as a psy-op against Katniss by the gamemakers really is a more likely scenario based on what's on screen.

    To answer the question about the salute with the three fingers: there are two different meanings. It's worth noting that regular communication between the districts is forbidden, so each district has its own distinct culture. The salute began in District 12 as a sign of farewell. But when the other districts saw Katniss doing it for Rue (directing it at the camera), it took on a completely different meaning for them. That's why it was so harshly punished when it was done by any district other than 12, because in the other districts, it's a signal to rebellion.
    There's a story behind why Johanna says, "they can't hurt me... there's no one left that I love," and I don't think it's ever explicitly stated in the movies, but I can't explain it just yet without spoiling something that _is_ explained for Finnick.

Back when the last movie had recently been released, I got into the series and during its youth, Peeta vs Gale was like the Edward vs Jacob of shipping wars. Though I'm glad most have come to common sense that Peeta is best boy, I don't understand why Gale's actor, Liam, is "ew?" The way I was yelling at the beginning. Like, no! We love Finnick! But he does play his role very well. Finnick's story and trauma in the books is absolutely heartbreaking. These are honestly pretty good adaptations but there is so much important detail missing, detail that explains why Joanna is the way she is and Finnick and Haymitch because for the three of them especially, it is so much than the trauma of the arena. The things the Capitol did to Finnick and Joanna...
    And yes, Peeta is a walking green flag. I maintain that Peeta is one of the most emotional intelligent characters ever created.

  • @josh.1162
    @josh.1162 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    It is explained a bit better in the books, but the whole point was that tributes from several districts promised to help protect Katniss and Peeta. They had this huge plan to get Katniss out of the arena hence why Johanna got Beetee and Wiress out in order for them to build the tree contraption. The camouflage girl protected Peeta because everyone knew that Katniss wouldn’t care to be the Mockjngjay is he was dead; this was also a part of Haymitch’s promise to Katniss, which was to keep Peeta safe no matter what. Without spoiling the 3rd movie, *someone* and *some people* had a plan to start a revolution against The Capital and they wanted Katniss as the symbol. She was one of the only people who defied The Capital and got away with it. She was the symbol for hope.

You remember everyone’s name who was just a victim(except fox face but that’s not even her real name). It’s like your brain immediately decides it’s not worth remembering the people who are ruthless and it’s better to use that space to remember characters who were as good as they could be in the situation they were born into. I'm sure somebody else has already explained this, but in case they haven't, the three-fingered salute is a gesture of respect/gratitude/farewell from District 12, where they would mainly use it at funerals to show their love for someone departed, but during the games Katniss kind of gave it a whole new meaning and now it's a symbol of defiance as well as pure love

    • @clover2739
      @clover2739 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t think he did it for katniss at all, he did it to make the gamemakers angry at him and to hold them accountable for what they did. In the book katniss never even saw the painting since the gamemakers tried to wash it up and put a mat over it to cover it up but Katniss knew Peeta made them angry. I think he also wanted them to angry at him and chose to kill him off rather than katniss, so katniss had to one up him so they focus on killing her instead.
      I know it’s different in the movie since katniss sees it, in a deleted scene for the movie Peeta even says ‘I never meant for you to see that’ talking about the Rue painting, so I don’t think he was trying to get katnuss angry in any way since he doesn’t want her to do anything that would get her killed off since his main goal is having Katniss live

      Also the movies cut out a huge part of the reason why peeta had so much trouble getting around and what not in the 2nd film. He literally lost a leg in the 1st games and still wasn't used to his prosthetic leg in the 2nd. They cut his disability out in the movies

    • @clover2739
      @clover2739 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think the movies cutting how a lot of Peeta’s strengths and also cutting out him losing a leg doesn’t help, cause a big reason he was struggling is because of having to run around with a prosthetic leg he wasn’t fully used to in a jungle area filled with vines. Plus they don’t explain or show how much Peeta actually saves Katniss life as well and how important he is.
      Like the first movie having Peeta fall in training and have the careers laughing at him and so Katniss has to tell Peeta to show his strength was a bit strange to me. Considering in how in the book that never happens because Peeta actually does well in training, he excels in hand to hand combat which katniss sucks at and Cato is also impressed and comments on how Peeta is skilled with a knife. Peeta with the careers saved katniss life by leading them the wrong ways while she was dehydrated and then attacked Cato 1on1 to stop him coming for Katniss since she was too disoriented that she was just sitting there which is how his leg was so injured in the first place. Then Peeta also killed that girl from district 8 since the careees didn’t kill her properly.
      Then in catching fire they took out Peeta’s whole training thing, he was so mad after the quarter quell was announced and Katniss and Haymitch got drunk and he threw out all the liquor and went into personal trainer mode and forced Katniss and Haymitch to get it together and train every day to become careers and even though Haymitch couldn’t handle it, Peeta’s forced training got both himself and Katniss a lot stronger and capable and Peeta also studied every single tributes games every night to learn about them. He was that strict because he wanted both Katniss and Haymitch to live to the point that Katniss missed Peeta being soft and comforting. I think the movies cutting these out make Peeta look weaker, cause yeah he’s softer and sweet but he’s just as stubborn as katniss is at points and even though in the books Peeta is too injured the whole time to do anything with the force field and his leg, later on when Peeta feels better he manages to kill Brutus from district 2 with his bare hands for killing Chaff who is Haymitch’s friend. Brutus is one of the toughest and most brutal tribute and it shows that Peeta’s training payed off and is a lot more powerful than people think.
      Even in the books, Katniss is first worried at how Finnick and Johanna keep trying to split them up before the jabberjays happen and then she stops worrying because the way they split them up doesn’t make sense because Peeta would be able to overpower Johanna easily. Katniss herself thinks this even knowing how brutal Johanna is, so he’s definitely not weak at all.

    Someone might have already said this, but at the end of the first book Peeta gets his leg amputated and would definitely still be getting used to it. In the book his artificial leg gets caught on something and he falls face first while they are running from the fog. She has to help him up and why the time he gets him up the fog renders his legs useless. It doesn’t go to in depth, but the mention that he tripped due to that leg specifically (it is called his artificial leg) suggested the fact it was artificial has something to do with it, especially since it is rarely mentioned.

    Fun Fact, Johanna Mason undresses in the elevator because in the first games Katniss was squeamish about exposing Peeta in the nude when she was trying to help him with his wounds so her doing this in the elevator in front of the fiancee in question was the ultimate middle finger to her.
