As a Dutch woman who because I live in a monarchy that's cousins with the British, knew about the drama they actually faced in the England (spoiler, its not racism but the rumors of Meghan and Harry spending money lavishly, as Royal Families are basically funded by the general public and there are rules attached to how they are allowed to spend it and Meghan bullying her staff). They've been taking advantage of Americans' ignorance on how things work in a monarchy, and they also had a free stay in my country funded by our government after they moved to America because they are related to our royal family, and the Dutch workers of the event they organized were massively underpaid (this was during the pandemic where job opportunities were very limited too). A lot of people don't like them because of their whiny, entitled behavior, and I just love South Park's commentary. It's great to see Americans finally realize what a shitty couple they are.
It's not that we didn't realize it. The other characters on the show explain why we don't comment on them: because we don't CARE about some dumb prince and his Instagram-loving bitch wife. I’m glad that most people can see her for the grasping brat she is, and I’m interested to see where this goes.
I think the most poetic part of this episode is Kyle becomes laid back, not letting things get to him etc by his own personal growth. Ironically by not caring about his brand he became what his brand was supposed to be
Funny enough, this episode itself made me realize that South Park is one of the very few entertainment shows left in modern broadcasting that is able to tackle these kind of topics with little care of the repercussions. Like Megan wanting to sue South Park proved their point. What’s great about this show is how it’s able to lay out an effective message disguised in its own humor. What a gem this show is
Nah its the only one allowed to. boondocks was doing it before it was cut for soem reason. Even predicted the rap industry today and r kelly 10 years before
It's more like, it's the only show remaining allowed to. South Park is pretty old, when it first aired you could get away with a lot. Over time South Park used this to comment on current sensitive topics. The only reason they are still allowed to do this is "because it's South Park!". If you would create a show like this nowadays, no matter how good the message is, not matter how politely you cover a topic. You will be taken off the air and treated like a devil. Heck, it's not like people *don't* try taking South Park off the air, it's just become big enough where it can stand on it's own and doesn't get affected as much by idiots trying to impose their own opinions on society.
I love the victim part of everyone's brand. Everyone, and I mean everyone is looking to get sympathy online. That doesn't mean you don't brand other things about your personality but being able to be victimized is essential for using as excuses for behavior. If they make another video game, I'd love branding to be part of the character sheet.
everything about this episode just feels like old south park. matt and trey making a perfect parody of a celebrity, the boys being back in the center of attention, the show making headlines-into the news, the celebrity going public by how much the show has hurt their lives and the talks of a lawsuit incoming. i truly feel like in late 2000's early 2010's and i love it. hope this season continues centering around the relationship between the main 4 and how it's changed and how they might get back together. seeing kenny and kyle be the only two to get off at that iconic bus stop just for them to go separate ways was kinda heartbreaking and i love what they're building up to
I think even most people in Britain are bored of them by now lol. Imagine being born into the royal family, being guaranteed a life of the highest luxury and privilege, able to see the world multiple times, get educated in the finest schools, your own driver and bodyguards everywhere you go and you still complain about how hard your life is. He's done absolutely nothing to earn his position beyond being born.
@@chrisrockett5897 Based on what evidence? Because Harry's book said it? The same book that has a disclaimer stating this is how he remembered events, not that they were researched and based on fact? Megan never wanted to commit to a life of service. She thought she would get millions and be beside the pool every day getting massages and sipping on fine wines. The reality of the role and the fact she was never going to be the 'star' was what made her drive a wedge between her husband and his family. Its pretty shocking the damage one narcissist can do.
@@effexwhore Who is 'them' and what did 'they' do to Diana? It has been revealed it was his wife planting stories in the media. They were in no danger. Megan's comment about only being a plane crash away from the throne was pretty terrifying too (all be it completely wrong).
Another problem with Royal life, is that it isn't high luxury, the Palaces are centuries old and the castles even older. Plus, the funding is from taxpayers, all spending is fully accounted for and the books are public. So they didn't want public funding anymore.
One thing I've also noticed with these two most recent episodes--and maybe this is just me--but they feel a lot less mean spirited. Yeah, they're still filled to the brim with mocking topical events, but it's nice to see the characters actually be sympathetic to one another. Even prince Har--I mean, uh, even the prince of Canada is given a second chance by the boys and that was weirdly wholesome to watch. I think maybe that's what's kept me watching South Park, while other adult animated series haven't kept my interested. A lot of them are just so cynical, and I get a sense that none of the characters actually really care about each other, and t's nice to see South Park not fall into that style of writing with the newest season. I can't believe I'm actually excited for what's in store for the rest of season 26!
That's so interesting, because I got the opposite impression from this episode. It felt extremely mean-spirited, and while I don't give a shit about how Meagan Markle feels about it, I didn't feel entirely comfortable with how they kind of gave the Prince a pass at the end, once he realized what a harridan his wife was and left her. It felt... I hesitate to use the word mysoginistic, but that was the impression I got by the end of the episode if we're being honest. Prince Harry isn't just some doofy decent guy who was seduced by an evil woman. He's a whiny spoiled crybaby, but the way this episode made it all about Meagan Markle just felt mean to me.
@@SRosenberg203 You know, that's actually a really interesting perspective. I'm glad you said that, cuz now I'm starting to rethink a few of my initial takeaways from the episode. I still found it very funny, but I can see where you're coming from with this.
@@SRosenberg203 I can definitely see where your impression comes from, but my take is that I don't think they were totally blaming the wife, I thought they were commenting that she had spent all her life caring too much about how she was seen by others and therefore ended up empty inside. I thought that was what they were getting at when they mentioned that she'd had a CumHammer membership since childhood, whereas the Prince had been added later -- that he'd spent less time than she had with that sort of outlook on identity. Which, as someone female-presenting, I've found, in my experience at least, that young girls are raised to buy into that outlook more than young boys are. Maybe that's where the almost-misogynistic undertone comes from? Anyways TLDR I thought the point of pairing that scene where the Prince leaves his wife with Kyle criticizing CumHammer and essentially talking about how damaging of a mindset the whole brand thing is, was more of commentary on how you can't really love and understand someone whose only sense of self comes from their "brand", with a healthy side of making fun of the royal family. Not just endlessly ragging on Meghan Markle, although even if it were, it is a little funny.
The episode takes the piss out or both sides brilliantly. It mocks Harry aha Meghan over their privacy wishes, but also mocks all the people who care about the couple and get mad about their activities. This is summed up when the other boys tell Kyle they don’t care

Southpark making fun of something because they find it stupid is what Southpark has always been about, Its just that sweet line in between stupid and serious that makes it gold
I think the prince playing drums is more about him being out of touch than not being ready for a quite life. He needs to have a quite life to get in touch.
With the controversy surrounding the episode now and the couple weeks off, I'm hoping that the end of the episode leads to the Prince becoming a semi regular member of the crew for the rest of the season. Not even to make fun of him. Just have him be a normal character who likes playing the drums. Perfect way to show that they couldn't care less about the threat of a lawsuit.
Yeah, I think the same, first was still good but it felt more like it was trying to be classic South Park while this one definitely felt more like it naturally was. Also was funnier as well with the modern Simpsons-esque Tik Tok scenes not being there. Nice message as well
One of South Park's greatest strengths is when they can puncture an obvious hypocrisy. Making people mad purely because they aren't afraid to point out the obvious. I have no hate for Harry/Meghan, but the episode is spot on and it's nice to see it draw on the wider theme of 'personal branding'.
As a British person who has had to put up with stupid amount of media coverage of Harry and Meghan asking privacy while courting publicity, I think South Park absolutely nailed it.

CumHammer is a nod to the Redskins episode where they try to register a ton of startup company names that are all taken. All of them have ridiculous and vulgar names like BonerBalls and Menacing Recatal Spooge. Pretty sure its meant to be one of the companies that managed to get beyond the startup phase.
the parody refers to IRL tactic of Meghan hiring Sunshine Sachs, a PR company, to PR her way to fame and fortune instead of talent or skill or notoriety. So Royal watchers adore this episode because the writers knew the nuances of the real story and did as much of a parody for them specifically at least as much as for the general SP Audience
The stuff with Prince Harry and his wife definitely flew over my head a bit because I was definitely NOT up to date with all of that stuff, but I LOVED the other aspects of the story like the "brand" stuff and people shouting that they want things but taking actions that are antithetical to what they say they want. I guess hearing you expand on the stuff Harry and his wife did after the Queen's death rings mainly the hypocritical actions as MAINLY about them but still applies broadly to a large amount of people. The brand thing is definitely one of those things that was like "Oh the internet really does subconsciouslly try to push this on everyone" that hit like a truck. I do my best to just be myself but it still hits when you have friends that are trying to break into the content creation sphere and aren't completely playing to their full true selves. Also every brand having victim is like... super hilarious since its a go to "thing." Also did anyone else get Cartman vs Wendy vibes from Bebe and Butter's fight from little we saw?

"They feel like they HAVE to make fun of whatever's on the news, not that they WANT to make fun of it" That is like the perfect encapsulation as to why South Park has had a bit of a decline for me. You nailed it on the head.
If they make fun of something because they want to make fun of it then they get told “that’s old news” or “you’re a few weeks too late”, if they make fun of something relatively current people get pissy because they’re just going by whatever is in the news. They can’t win either way.
Fucking THANK YOU. I still like some of the new stuff from time to time, but I miss when they weren't trying give a big social statement or whatnot. (I know they did that back in the day but to a bit of a lower degree.)
Believe me, it’s not just people in the US who don’t care. Most people in the UK and probably rest of the world don’t give a toss either. But we do enjoy taking the piss out of these two. Most bookshops I’ve been to have his book surrounded by other books with demeaning titles, such as “how to kill your family” or “my penis doesn’t work”, hahah.
Reminds me of the small penis rule, where if you are satirizing someone through a character, you say the character has a small penis, so if the person being satirized sues for defamation they have to admit that they have a small penis.
I live in the UK they both said how they felt harassed by the UK press. They them moved to the states did a interview with Oprah, wrote a book and had a netflix show.
You are correct about the name of the brand agency. I believe that the idea is the minute you hear the name and see the logo it's obvious they have no idea what they're doing and you should turn around and walk away quickly.
God two incredible episodes in a row man are they actually getting back on the ball and make a great season i have seen the entire series all the way through a few times and this is by far the most excited i have been for a new season in years
The Harry and Meghan situation was really strange cus initially they were right in what they were doing saying they wanted to leave the royal family because they weren’t respected and they had really strict rules but then they said they wanted their privacy which was fair as this was just after they had their kid and the press didn’t leave them alone which was fair but then they decided to constantly put themselves in the spotlight just very strange people
I don't mind them putting the royal family on blast but to get upset about this SP episode is abit much. They're rich celebrities. I wouldn't care if it were me.
I disagree. Before, and during their engagement, Megan and Harry had extensive conversations with the queen, Prince Charles about what their role would be. They were offered several different options and asked about their preferences. They both insisted that all they wanted to do was serve the monarchy. Being a working Royal is a life of duty and service. Meghan thought it should be about celebrity and having people wait on her. She spent more on clothes in one year than every senior royal woman in Europe combined! The whole reason they were given that multi million dollar wedding, the titles, Frogmoor… Is because of their pledge to spend their lives as working Royals. So fine, then they change their minds. They didn’t have to throw grenades on their way out the door. Their treatment of the royal family has been unkind, disloyal, and disrespectful in the extreme.
@@mariabunch3541 idk I guess the only part I agree with is them being angry at people not leaving them alone and getting angry when they just wanted to enjoy the birth of their child in peace
Although I love South Park and it’s fandom I can’t help but feel too many people took the wrong message from this episode, was the point not that them Harry and Meghan want attention and the boys were acting as us and that we should ignore them. But ever since the episode aired I’ve nonstop been hearing about them and I just don’t care. I think it’s something to do with a lot of non South Park fans who’ve just watched this one episode

If they were begging to be loved by the world then they wouldn’t be carrying on with their bullshit talk shows, books and articles. Instead they’re just saying whatever they can to get attention from the world. No matter how outlandish, stupid, offensive or wrong it is. If it gets them attention, they go along with it.

I too am still trying to figure out if CumHammer was just a joke name made to sound funny or a reference to something specific. I've seen the episode a few times already but still can't see any obvious connections.
It’s both just a dick joke and a reference, since a “cum hammer” is a term for a penis. Referencing Harry’s vivid description of his penis and it’s many wonders
I'm beginning to think it's just an ironic joke. Having a company specializing in branding with a name like that shows what the creators feel about the idea of "branding" and subsequent companies.I think they emphasized this by having the main characters reach the conclusion that they don't need "a brand", they just needed to accept themselves and care less about the opinion of others. Also; "CumHammer" perfectly describes what you are when you think you need "personal branding" A jerk-off and a tool.
😂Man this episode is just absolute classic. I mean what a great coincidence that there is a pair of royal couple in UK is doing the same as the Canadian royal couple, trying publicly seeking for their privacy.😂
I wish you would've mentioned that the song they made for the Worldwide Privacy Tour is a parody of the Beatles song "Magical Mystery Tour" down to recreating the cover for the album of the same name. It feels like an extra jab purely because of the Beatles being British.

What? Did she sue them? That is kind of ironic and funny.
Meghan being actually “empty” when Harry looks inside is the Highlight of the episode

No, imo the true highlight is the part where Stan just bluntly states "We don't care about some stupid prince and his shallow wife" or whatever
"He victimized me. It's because I'm an ethnic woman!"
😂
This episode is gold 🪙
I love the victim part of everyone's brand. Everyone, and I mean everyone is looking to get sympathy online. That doesn't mean you don't brand other things about your personality but being able to be victimized is essential for using as excuses for behavior. If they make another video game, I'd love branding to be part of the character sheet.
Quit looking for sympathy online
Victimhood is simply social currency in the 2020s sadly
everything about this episode just feels like old south park. matt and trey making a perfect parody of a celebrity, the boys being back in the center of attention, the show making headlines-into the news, the celebrity going public by how much the show has hurt their lives and the talks of a lawsuit incoming. i truly feel like in late 2000's early 2010's and i love it. hope this season continues centering around the relationship between the main 4 and how it's changed and how they might get back together. seeing kenny and kyle be the only two to get off at that iconic bus stop just for them to go separate ways was kinda heartbreaking and i love what they're building up to
no, the old episodes are actually funny
I think even most people in Britain are bored of them by now lol. Imagine being born into the royal family, being guaranteed a life of the highest luxury and privilege, able to see the world multiple times, get educated in the finest schools, your own driver and bodyguards everywhere you go and you still complain about how hard your life is. He's done absolutely nothing to earn his position beyond being born.
His grandfolks are horrible people who treated his wife horribly and his mom's gone. I do agree they should just go into seclusion though.
he left his position as a royal to protect his family. he said he didnt want them to do to meghan what they did to diana.

It’s cause people just pity Harry…Megan is the nutcase…harry is the simp.
@@SRosenberg203 idk what you mean these characters arent those two people
@@SRosenberg203 You know, that's actually a really interesting perspective.
As a Brit, this is one of the greatest portrayals of the royal family I have ever seen
What about "the royals" quite funny
You’re just a far-right guy 🥴
The episode takes the piss out or both sides brilliantly. It mocks Harry aha Meghan over their privacy wishes, but also mocks all the people who care about the couple and get mad about their activities. This is summed up when the other boys tell Kyle they don’t care

I think the prince playing drums is more about him being out of touch than not being ready for a quite life. He needs to have a quite life to get in touch.
So he was...so out of touch that he took play to mean play the drums?
With the controversy surrounding the episode now and the couple weeks off, I'm hoping that the end of the episode leads to the Prince becoming a semi regular member of the crew for the rest of the season. Not even to make fun of him. Just have him be a normal character who likes playing the drums. Perfect way to show that they couldn't care less about the threat of a lawsuit.

Either that or it's a reference to Games workships "Warhammer 40k: darktides"
