Di Penjara Janji - At The Prison of Promise (a story about the girl that broke the man's heart).
An old song which was originally sang by rock singer, Dato' Awie. This song is really famous & not many Malaysian can sing it. As you can see, it requires a singer with high range of vocal & great techniques to be able to sing this. Amir Masdi did a great job to sing this song & people are loving this! I still can’t believe Yazik didn’t know about the legendary Awie(the original singer), one of the greatest talents Malaysian music industry has ever produced. He started off as a rock singer in a rock band called Wings in the mid 80s, and still going strong till these days. Awie and Wings had a jaw-dropping special performance stage at AJL 36 recently, where he sang a medley of some of his greatest hits. You should check that one out and react to it.
This is one of the legendary song from legendary singer/rocker in Malaysia - Dato Awie. very tough song. I could have a pain in my throat for a month if I sang this.

Your pronunciation is what we call as Baku variant. It’s the standard form or “accent-less” might I say. The formal Malay.
Malay is very easy to read. You pronounce things as they’re spelled, unlike English or French.

The direct translation for Di Penjara Janji is 'In the Prison of Promise'. The lyric was written by Loloq aka Seth aka Kristo Bimbo aka Fakir Iskandar aka Nurbisa (real name Rosli Khamis) a well know Rock song-writer back in 1990s. He was born in Singapore months before Malaysia/Singapore gained her independence from British. The song was composed by Yan Toi (used to be a member of rock band, Lefthanded back in 1970s-1980s).
The song was produced in 1995 by a rock band, Wings.
I don't know further about the history of the song, prolly those who used to know the song writer himself would explain it to us but I know Loloq (1957-2008) wrote about 500 songs in his entire career. But I can sort of direct translate though not accurate section by section.

Again, those are just direct translation as the the lyric express in song is more subtle in Malay. If we take a look at the life of the song-write, he experienced different stages of life. Loloq for example used to have history with drugs for years (which was common for musician back in the days) and able to recover by submitting himself to God, so like perhaps Creed (With arms wide open), the lyric might itself carry double meaning expression.
