The ball is a southern tradition called Debuntante ball. An introduction of young ladies to high society when they come of age. This was done back in slave trade and beyond eras by upper class white social circles. Black girls were not allowed to join in, so the upper class black societies created their own. Beyonce is from the south, so this honors her southern roots, too.
The little girl slow walking into the event and then turning into a celebrated debutante herself, is supposed to be Nala. She is Simba's intended future wife, if you remember the Lion king.
Beyonce has been doing a lot of studying in the different spirit guides that represent different things in different African cultures. Oshun (wears hues of yellow/gold) is a goddess that Bey has been channeling lately, and Yemaye, the water goddess( beyonce dresses in teal color outfit and is made to look like she's walking on water by the plastic put down on the ground, in the video for Already.)
Oshun and Yemaye are prominent in her newer storytelling.
Bey has been on a black history self journey for quite a while. She has been bringing us on her discoveries, which is how it should be. Teach what you learn. Pass it on to educate people about what's been hidden from us. Wake up the world about the significance and importance of the black diaspora and what we bring to the world, besides a slave story.
I don't know if you noticed, but she added an Indian (south asian) woman in the video for inclusion for brown skin girls of different cultures. Beyonce is recognizing the colorism that is so heavily drenched in their society as well. She put an albino model in their to show love to them as well.
Btw, Blue Ivy already has a following fanbase. Mostly, you could probably guess that her fans are Beyhive, but she has young ladies follow her moves too. Her fanbase is called The Ivy League. I am not ashamed to say that I am one of them, either. Even if she just becomes a doctor to save lives. I am already still an admirer of the game changer and money moves maker she will become, because she will do it with dignity, style and grace. I can't see her growing up any other kind of way. She's got a strong family base behind her to keep her on the right paths.
Btw, Black is King is a visual album that was created like a movie. It retells the story of the Lion king using real African people to tells the story from Beyonce's visual art of Afro futuristic/and spiritual guidance themes.

Beyoncé ways paying homage to traditional debutant balls, which are a high society thing within upper class Black American communities. A lot of folks don't know about it but it's been around within our community for many decades. The pastel colors are supposed to showcase a softer version of black women since black women aren't portrayed with a sense of soft femininity in media. Black is King was a beautiful sentiment for paying homage to African culture and the Motherland, especially in this climate. This was extremely needed.
