    This is one of the few recordings I know of where the lovely fermata("birdseye") is observed. It was removed from the tune in the 1991 revision, and from the 2012 Cooper revision.

      That's good to know, I was wondering about that since I heard it but didn't see it in my blue book.

    What a wonderful moment!! Family sitting on the porch singing praise to God. You don't find/see that much anymore. Thank u for the peace and for helping keep me grounded during all this craziness!! Bravo

    What wondrous love is this!
    Oh, my soul, oh my soul!
    That caused the Lord of bliss
    To bear the dreadful curse
    For my soul?
    When I was sinking down,
    Sinking down, Sinking down,
    Beneath God’s righteous frown
    Christ laid aside His crown
    For my soul.
    To God and to the Lamb,
    I will sing; I will sing;
    Who is the great I Am,
    While millions join the theme,
    I will sing.
    And when from death I’m free
    I’ll sing on; I’ll sing on;
    I’ll sing and joyful be,
    Throughout eternity
    I’ll sing on.

    Hey Wooten Family. Do y'all remember The Leonard Family? We don't sing anymore but some of us are here in Alabama.
    It's good to hear your voices again!
    I'm on FB. Great to hear you all. 💖

    I'm so jealous of this wonderful family singing together. My grandparents spoke of singing school when they were growing up in Arkansas. But they moved to Calif for a better life (work) and there were no singing schools then, so I did not get to experience this tradition as a child being raised In California. The closes singings are at least 5 hours from where I live now in the Pacific Northwest.

      To me, as a german fella, it must be such big change to switch your resident from a more rural area to something like California. One day I'll visit the beauties of america and maybe call it my new home. Mississippi is my first destination :D

    Its Sunday morning and this is my church. Was exposed early on to amazing vocal hymns in the Dayton Ohio area via a friends family and have been on a hunt for similar music ever since. Grateful for the Lomax archive for videos like this.

      Do you mean that your church is like this, or that your church is watching TH-cam videos?

    We still sing this music even in this crazy time. Only now Zoom sings are cropping up as traditional songs are cancelled to meet guidlines. 4 months ago you could plan a very nice tour around the world singing fasola music. We will sing again

    This sounds different than... (I don't know the word...)... "Regular" Red Book sacred harp. I LIKE this difference. Do you know what I am hearing but don't know how to point out? Can I learn this, teach this? Thank you. I hear a drone... but there is something else. Thank you.

      it might be the glissandos, or the sliding between notes! it took me a couple of listens to notice it, but it is such a wonderful addition!
