  • We just passed the last bridge that our mast can fit under.... the time has come.... it must come down. But first there is work to be done. Sails to be removed, folded and packed away. Boom removed....oh, i nearly forgot the electrical wiring!
    Now to prepare the deck supports that will carry the weight of the mast across the choppy Great Lakes.

    ABOUT US:
    Jupiter² was built in the Philippines by an Australian designer for Jamie. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time.
    Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing".

    Enjoyed that immensely. Thank you. Yes; there are certain words that you don't say. Reminds me about the difference between boys and girls. 12 Knots - The boys: "Go faster Dad!"; The girls: "Daddy; SLOW DOWN!!!"

    That morning dew dirt is mainly from the dust and grime kicked up by the never ending string of railroad trains on either side of the river. I was a trainman and freight conductor for nine long years. They ruined my back in a head on collision back in 1981 and I hate the railroad management with all my heart still to this day. You Know that boat well son and I admire you for that.

    I have really come to love your channel. You are doing things that are once in a lifetime adventures and it is so inspiring. I took a Coast Guard class many, many years ago and the Captain that taught the course had pictures of his trip on The Loop and I thought that one day I would do it. I was a stink pot guy back then but now I am getting close to the sailboat idea and it is inspiring to see you do it in a sailboat. I can't wait for your further adventures.

    Is there a reason you don't strop your anchor old bean. it would have stopped you loosing your last one. easy to say i know but worth thinking about. ?

    • @SailingLifeonJupiter
      @SailingLifeonJupiter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trip line BB?... Yeah we use in the rivers with a constant current.. But it constantly gets tangles up... in the Hudson the strong currents reversing 4 times a day it would have been a birds nest.

    • @BB-tm7gx
      @BB-tm7gx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SailingLifeonJupiter what we do is attach the anchor chain to the head of the anchor . Then put two small sacrificial strops through the chain and attach it to the anchor where the chain meets the anchor eye. That way the anchor still takes the weight of the boat but if it gets caught then pull it up on the winch
      when it gets near a steep angle and the strops break allowing the winch to pull the anchor out backwards. what we use it in the bristol channel 14/16 knot tides everyday. could that work for you ? it saves a lot of anchors and chains for us

    • @SailingLifeonJupiter
      @SailingLifeonJupiter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BB-tm7gx that does sound like a good idea... But in our case it was our chain that was snagged on something not the anchor... But thanks for the explanation of the strops... I haven't heard of that technique... Cheers

    Re yr problem with HSBC Bank. At the first opportunity, get ALL yr money out, and deposit it with the bank that gives u the best world-wide service. NEVER put up with crap from a bank for more than a few weeks. Put a stop to it the only way that finally convinces them that it's YOUR money. NEVER waste time arguing with a bank.

    Why are they called lazy jakes?

    • @SailingLifeonJupiter
      @SailingLifeonJupiter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Google says this... "It is generally claimed that the name has its origins in the colloquial reference to British sailors as "Jack tars". "Lazy jacks" would therefore point to reduction of manpower and effort that lazy jacks provide"
