    A cool roundup. From my experience, the most time you'll ever have is when you're a teenager. Once you have a job, a partner and then kids, the amount of time remaining will be tiny!

    This is such an inspiring story. I've always wanted to be a game developer too, and I've started learning GameMaker, but every time I try to get myself to learn I just can't. I procrastinate way too much, and even if I'm enjoying it, I eventually get bored. I'm still trying to learn so I can hopefully make a pretty decent game in the future, and I think this video really helped me realize I've been doing nothing lol so thank you for sharing

      I'm happy you enjoyed the video! If I may, here are some little bits of wisdom to maybe help you sustain your development journey -
      1) don't do too much at once
      - when learning you may feel super motivated to keep learning, but this will die out quickly (a few days) - instead, spread your development out, limiting yourself to an hour or two a day
      2) watch other people games
      - i know that I also get super inspired when watching devlogs or other people's journeys as well because it shows me what's possible
      3) keep switching it up
      - if your getting bored of programming, do some level design - getting bored of level design, try sounds design or try making your own videos outlining your journey
      - i love switching it up because i never feel like what i'm doing if boring and mundane
      hope this helps, and I'm thrilled that you've been inspired ☺

    Excuse me please forgive me for asking like this would you like to make a game video game? I have a game called 'Ozone climber' basically I can draw up a story board if you can work from it it basically consists of a group of 4 grade geniuses climbing the Ozone to get to space and back it's a racing game only thing is the lowest cost wins after proving they got there and back there's so many features or upgrades to do the journey as i wish to reveal a cheap affective method to space. This needs to be free to access I can pay you for making a game via HTML and money or income rather -by selling adverts or CTP it's awesome cause it will reveal a cheap and easy way to space.

      Wow! That sounds like a cool game. Sadly, I'm busy with the game I'm currently developing, and don't really have the time to stray away to other projects.
      I hope this doesn't discourage you however, and I'm sure that there are a lot of other developers who may be able to take up this task.
      Best of Luck!

      It's always a good time to start a youtube channel! In fact, i'll list some benefits right here:
      1) You learn to edit videos - this has helped me in so many other places
      2) You develop a community and meet people online!
      3) Since I started a long time ago, I can look back and see that huge progress i've made on my games!
      4) If you're lucky, you might even be able to make a little bit of money.

    Your story took me back to mine because they are very similar, it was like I was seeing it in a mirror especially with the part of wanting to make money and all that but I gave up because not having a good PC I couldn't use Unity and I met godot and in pandia there were no good godot tutorials like now and I wasted a lot of time. Currently I'm recovering because I feel that gamedev is my passion and when I saw your video it reminded me of everything that happened in those times and why I drowned this, thank you mate

    • @theunityguy_yt
      @theunityguy_yt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm really amazed at how many people have shared the same stories and experiences as me!
      Not having a good pc is really relatable actually, as I develop games on a mid-specked laptop and really weak integrated graphics (which is terrible for 3d games).
      Anyways, I really hope that your able to chase your passion of gamedev and you hopefully find some success in the industry. I totally understand how sad it is when your so passionate about something but find yourself conflicted as to whether or not is actually worth it.
      Best of luck ☺

    Hey man I really love your channel and just started game development at 15, do you have any recommendations on how to balance small projects, game jams and school? thanks in advance. Also bonus question do you major game dev.

    • @theunityguy_yt
      @theunityguy_yt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd say it mostly comes down to organization. I tend to prioritize my school and sports over game development, but I'm organized enough to ensure that every week, there's a little bit of time left over for game dev.
      I'd also add on to that by saying that you should analyze your entire week, account for sleep, school, sports and homework, and see how much free time you actually have. I found that i actually had free time, but was spending it playing games and watching yt instead.
      Now though, I love game development to the point that it acts as a substitute for playing games or watching movies!
      I'm guessing your last question is if I'm majoring in game dev. I'm still in grade 11, and plan to major in health science as I kind of want to guarantee a future for me.
      As much as I love gamedev, I don't trust it as a full time career. I also find that I don't really want to go to university and get a degree in gamedev, as I'm self-employed and working on this game alone. For this reason, a degree won't really help that much, and I'd rather major in something I deem a little bit more useful.
      Hope this helps :D
