Dark Side is a 43-minute encapsulation of life. From the moment we begin to Breathe In The Air, we are raised and trained to get On The Run with our lives without recognizing Time is passing us by while death (Great Gig) is ever-nearing. There are obstacles along life's path, too, like greed (Money), war (Us & Them), and deception of choice (Any Colour), any of which can lead to madness (Brain Damage) - unless we realize nothing "material" really matters. That realization can be enlightening, but it also has a Dark Side (Eclipse) - matter of fact it's all dark.

@@ZosoLU I've been listening to Dark Side since my older sister played it non-stop in '73. These are my own thoughts after half a century of digesting Roger's lyrics, but they are supplemented with key information from two persons who were involved in the recording process: (1) Hearing Clare Torry discuss her Great Gig session, and (2) reading that an Abbey Road staff member would respond to band's requests with Henry Ford's "colorful" answer to customers who wanted painted Model Ts.

Again, this is my interpretation. Just as she already did within this reaction, I'm wondering what the "60- or 70-old Stacey" might think of this album. I suppose that's an added gift we get from masterpieces: they allow us to consider what people will be saying about them after we are no longer able to hear them ourselves.

I am a 58-year-old rocker from Argentina and it is beautiful to see how you are discovering this incredible band that accompanied and nourished me since I was really a teenager. Pink Floyd is superior in so many mysterious ways and one perceives it by seeing how it touches the soul of someone young like you. I have listened to their music thousands of times, back to front and backwards and the best thing is to listen to them in their entirety because there is a complete story within them. A deep and sensorial experience. Congratulations on your journey with Pink Floyd!

When Rick Wright was working out the chord sequence (the bit just before the singing starts) he felt inspired to drop in an unusual chord he remembered working out from a record when he was younger. The record was "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. Just to make a change from the more standard or conventional movement from one chord to another he thought it would be perfect. And it is.

I want to thank you for reminding me how great of a band Pink Floyd is, I was 18 years old station at Danang air Air Force Base, Vietnam, When I first heard of Pink Floyd and the album Dark Side Of The Moon being played in the barracks, I got a headset and I played it all night long. It would just take me to somewhere else than being in Vietnam. 1974 I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath Air Force Base in England, about 70 miles north of London. I believe it was November 1974 when we went to London to see Pink Floyd play dark side of the moon, my very first concert, How LUCKY I was to be able go see them play back then. Thank you again for reminding me how great of a band they are and how they help me.

Dark Side of the Moon changed my life and helped me understand many things. I was lucky enough to meet Pink Floyd when I was around 15 years old, from that moment until today, almost 19 years later, it is still the most beautiful band I heard, and possibly the one that made me experience things that no other band achieved. Its particular sound, almost spacial, its message, the harmonies, everything achieves its goal perfectly to such an amazing experience.
Unfortunately, I recently lost one of my best friends, who was the one who introduced me to Pink Floyd at that time and with whom we shared countless days listening to the records, trying to understand the songs, or simply letting ourselves be carried away by such a piece of art.
For him, I wish him peace and the best wherever he is, and for you, I recommend that you listen to this entire album in one sitting, since being a conceptual work, I assure you that you will enjoy it even more!
    Greetings from Argentina!.

BTW Theres a reprise of Breathe that is always played as the last verse of '"Time".
This is brilliantly placed as Breathe talks about how you choose to live, Time is the Wake-up to remind you the Clock is ticking, the reprise of Breathe talks of how lives end, and is the perfect bridge into'"The Great Gig in the Sky" the vocalisation of the emotions of the process of death itself.
And that's how you end Side 1.
With Side two focusing on choices, the human condition and the other way of losing everything you think sooooo important, that is how a mental breakdown is just as devastating as death, the sum total of everything in tune can be eclipsed by darkness leaving just a fading heartbeat.

Two things- First, even though I've been listening to this for decades, I still get chills every time I hear the intro fade-in. And second, this is kind of a chopped-up version. After 5:32, it the Breathe (Reprise) that's on the end of the song Time, and this version omits On The Run. It's much better as a straight-thru whole album listen. When you do eventually listen to Dark Side of The Moon in its entirety, find one that doesn't have any pauses or breaks between the individual tracks to get the full effect.

Dark Side of the Moon was the only 8 track album we had in our car. It's probably the first album I've ever heard .

Did you know that you're an empath? You feel outside of yourself. You feel the emotions of others... You feel when observing experiences outside of your own.
My favorite people are Empathic. You have officially become one of my favorite people. 🙂
I suspect that you cheer your competitors' successes and don't really understand why everyone doesn't do that... (I'm right, aren't I!).

Incredible opener, the album as a whole will so blow your mind! Yeah, always made me high, too, whether I was or not. This album so kicked our butt the first time, immediately put it back on after the first listen as we were astounded and it was so much to absorb. You should do On The Run next to continue the album. Pink Floyd is a drug that I'm glad I'm addicted to. Enjoy!

Pink Floyd music is the best music to get lost in and experience. ❤️ Your reaction 👏

3:10 That's the face of a true Floyd fan.
Swept away, Escaping the world and just living that moment. Completely lost within the music.
    It's a great feeling.

We do hope you'll be doing a full album listen of "Dark Side," Stacey. I know you're probably sick of hearing this, but honestly, you really do need to hear the entire album in context and in entirety to be able to appreciate the overall work. But it's been precious coming on this journey with you so far, Stacey, dearest...

Stacey, when you do "The Great Gig in the Sky", please be sure to react to the studio version. Although the live versions are great, the vocals are performed by three different backup singers, while the studio version was done entirely by the remarkable Clare Torry.

With the Pulse tour you could hear the heartbeat (and actually feel it) before the show started and during the intermission, after which they played the entire Dark Side of the Moon. Such an amazing experience.

Hello Stacey. The technical perfection of the sound is due to technician sound Alan Parson. The album is a whole circle: birthday, Life, madness, death, and resurrection, but Roger, at the very end of It, explain that " all is dark", it's all mystery.

To hear this song during the 1994 tour was quite the experience with all the beginning sound effects when into the soothing journey after. Another nice one to listen to is "Marooned" anotther soothing instrumental in which they actually one a Grammy for 💗

In case you haven't gleaned it from the various songs you've heard from the album, Dark Side of the Moon is about all the things that drive people crazy. Also it may seem short but that's because the album is meant to be heard in order since they all run into each other. And yes, it's meant for you to breathe and be calm and not be driven crazy by the following songs.

I recommend listening to Dark Side of the Moon , Wish You Were Here , The Wall , and maybe Animals and Meddle all the way through ( on headphones of course ) . Oh , and watch the movie Pink Floyd : Live at Pompeii to see Meddle performed and Dark Side being made in studio . It's awesome . Have a great weekend .

Grew up listening to Floyd. I still love to sit or lay back and listen to them with my eyes closed. Its not music, its an experience. If I have qn extremely hard day, or my depression is kicking in bad, like lately, at night, Ill lay back and listen, and drift off.

Pink Floyd's music is so sensory. They plant seeds in your imagination that grow into worlds, and then go with you on a tour of those worlds. I don't know of any other band that can do that.
