    Thanks for sharing that. I am making my second glycerine extract at home (vanilla) and this time I want to speed up with the extraction (glad I found this video). But I have couple questions:
    1- can I make it into my oven keeping 112 ~ 118F ?
    2- does the formula 60-40 works well to any extract, tincture?

    My question is what is the difference between a rosemary extract using glycerine, and rosemary extract using acetone?
    I have made a rosemary extract by using glycerine it smells lovely and thin. I bought an extract online it is take and not as lovely.
    My second question is how come their reo is an antioxidant? Is there any chemical added to it? Thank you in advanced.
    By the way love your book, modern herbal dispensatory.

    Loved your percolator tutorial. I would just use 1000ml tube with glass stockcock instead of a bottle cut off. My question: I am getting an extractcraft turbo, next month I will have saved up for my percolator, filters & unbleached filters, also a 80mm Buchner funnel kit with handle squeeze vacuum pump & 500ml Flask with stand .
    One goal is to put whole avocado skin, seed (cut up or grated) avocado meat into my Excalibur dehydrator (@113%F) to preserve enzymes. Once dried out I was going to try menstrum 190 proof Everlast in my extractcraft or hopefully I can get my NOIDS by then. Sorry for typing soooo long. How would you make avocado oil?

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I broke too many tips off of the 1000ml tubes with a built-in stopcock. I also like that I can get my whole hand in the wider mouth. Alcohol is going to denature the enzymes, as will your stomach acid, so I wouldn't worry about trying to preserve them.

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Freshly dried works best. If you use fresh the risk is watering the glycerine down so much you allow bacterial growth.

      It's low temp. It won't hurt it. Some herbs need longer. It's a general guideline.

    Being you add water, what preservatives would you recommend for the herbal glycerin solutions? Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't heating over 118 degree F destroy the enzymes and/or the medicinal values?

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Herbs were traditionally prepared almost exclusively through decoction. If 212f doesn't hurt the medicinal properties, 118f won't either.

    Hello! I’m studying Herbal Medicine and I have a question in the regards for Glycerine Tinctures. My question was can I do the standard method first?As in instead of Heating it first I would Simply shake it up for 6 weeks- too two months, and then after it’s completed I do your method, which is putting it in a pot for 6 hours to get all the extra Medicinal properties that didn’t come out yet, could this work? And would this be more potent?

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do that, but I don't think it will be stronger.

    It would be better to squize it with gloves!
    And the temperature should not be higher than 45 celsius, for 3 days.

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would not be better to squeeze it with gloves, you would not get as much out, and your hands would be much more sore. Also the increased temperature helps the extraction.

    In your book,The Modern Herbal Dispensary, you say to process the herbs in the glycerine/water mix in boiling water for only 15-30 min. Why is it you say six hours here? Which is correct?

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Think of it like the difference between making an infusion and decoction. For delicate flowers 15-30min is enough. For roots and barks longer is better. This is one of several points I'm hoping to clear up in the next edition.

    This is kind of a weird question but can you vape these herbal juices? I vape Valerian e-juice and other herbal blends that I purchase online. One of them from a brand called Bear Blends is 100% VG (vegetable glycerin). I water it down with propylene glycol for the vape so it's thinner. My question is do you think this would be vape-able? Anything mixed with VG is usually vape-able, even if there is no propylene glycol (PG) in it (or you could add PG to it). It's still absolutely vape-able even with JUST the VG.

      Same question here I have flavorless eliquid with nicotine in it 18mg so alot but I have 70%vg 30%pg so if i just used that w no water would it work or should i somehow involve water and evaporate the water leaving behind the goodies in my e liquid but idk if ill boul away the nicotine or the vg pg... and if I made this 60/40ratio with like 200 grams instead of 80 grams it would work right? Idk how to do the math I mean with the glycerite and water not the e liquid? So 616 or 660 ml (couldn't hear u) and 200ml water? kinda confused w the 1:8 thing you said i didn't get it...

    • @EclecticHerbalist
      @EclecticHerbalist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can vape herbal glycerites if you evaporate the water off. The effects, and safety, depend upon the herb

    may I ask, wouldn't 40% of the glycerin equate to 160ml of water?

    • @James_Kael
      @James_Kael 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is calculated from total amount. 400 glycerin + 260 water = 660 total
      400/660 = .606 or 60.6% Glycerin
      260/660 = .394 or 39.4% water
      Hope that helps

    A few months back I ordered bulk bags of Chlorella and Spirulina powder, and turns out my gut hates it the stuff. I'm not willing to chuck it out, so I was thinking making an extract. Is this possible with powders such as these? I was thinking tea, but I don't think that would extract the goodies... Anyone with any knowledge who can give me a point in the right direction will get a interweb hug and healthy cookie! tanka 🙏

      @@valerieoye6009 Cheers for the heads up. I had figured this out a few months ago... I sort of panic bought a lot of health foods... I didn't buy any that has been heavy metal tested - which was dumb. I'll probably continue to take it somehow, but with Nettle and Coriander.
