You can tell how much Bert respects Mike with how much he let Mike talk. Great pod. Mike’s got that even-keeled killer in him.
Except the multiple times he asks Mike to explain something or tell a story.. and the second Mike starts responding, Bert interrupts with a story and goes "why am I talking about this?"
Ya what are you talking about haha. He’s such an insane self centered dude. I love and hate him because he reminds me of all of my bad traits.

I've been writing stories for 40 years and teaching writing for almost 30. This discussion of storytelling is a master class of distilled wisdom. The one thing Mike came back to several time- how much he wrote at the beginning of his career- is the best way to become a successful storyteller. Seems obvious, but put in the work.
Mike Birbigs is the reason I started watching stand up. His special was one of the first I watched and then became obsessed with watching anything and everything Mike
Same! His and Dimitri Martin’s first specials on Comedy Central blew my young mind away
He was deff one of the first comics I remember watching in the early days of me actually watching Stand up but I like his early stuff better more like traditional stand-up his new/newer stuff is more like a Broadway show
I think my biggest attraction to Mike Birbiglia is how unassuming he is. He is incredibly relatable.

As an aside to how good his sets are, I used to recite his standup when I was in Jr. High school to other tweens. That means when my attention span was at its shortest, I listened to and memorized his stories to tell to other kids later!!
Does anyone else feel like Bert is about to make a sudden gear shift into clean/family comedy based on some of his recent guests? 😂 I'm here for it personally.

Børt lies and exaggerates to a very unsettling degree. I get it, he's a "goofball" and that, but he does this TOO much. It's his crutch. For emphasis is one thing, but when it is your only go-to, it becomes cheap.

Bert, I don't know what "experts" you're talking to about drinking, but there are different types of alcoholics. Drinking daily is not necessary to be an alcoholic, there are also the binge drinking types for example. But, it's mostly based off of the negative effects it has on one's life and the refusal to stop despite those effects.
Loved the detailed convo on storytelling - especially when Birbiglia was punching up Bert's already funny storry

I had to quit drinking/partying when it started getting harder and harder to get over the hangover. I used to be able to bounce back quickly, and now it takes a few days to feel normal.
It sucks. I also seem to blackout randomly faster. Like I just feel slightly tipsy, and suddenly I wake up in my bed the next morning. I hate it.
Very different comedians. Great conversation. I wish people took the same approach to politics as take for comedy

I really, really liked this episode. So many of these stories were new, or at least the details of events that we've heard of before. I don't think I've heard that side of the jumping from the Space Needle story, for instance. Mike Birbigs is incredibly funny and I genuinely loved listening to the technical aspects of what makes a good story. If that's what _Working it Out_ is, I'm adding it to the list.
Birbiglia IS THE MAN
Every episode is literally the Bertcast, he never shuts up and interrupts ALL conversation long. How do you know Bert is talking? Because he's laughing at his own joke.
I think the main charm about Bert is that he used to over share information with his fans, which helped us grow to love him. He’s gotten much better about not sharing specifics, and it makes me happy, because I enjoy watching bert and his family’s content so much that I want them to have their privacy and security of the aspects of their lives that are rightfully only for them. Oh, and mike is one of the funniest people alive, I’ll always watch anything he puts out
There is so much fascinating "inside baseball" talk I have seen in years. Just good stuff.

Bert telling people about how he doesn’t have a drinking problem on every single podcast he does sounds more silly every time you hear it.
Their take on travelling the US is spot on! I'm a 'coastal elite', yet I had a blast in places like Pensacola, Florida; Orange Beach, Alabama or Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Never in a billion years did I think I'd be vacationing in those areas, but I tried it & I liked it. Met some amazing people, too! Some had never met Californians before.
All those cities you named are on the coast lol
Bert your skill in regard to sports and the fact that in a panicky situation you get calm with a camera seems to me to mean you're a natural performer

Bert, you should do the Chicken Documentary. He is from Dunnellon, FL not too far from where you are from. Alot of his family and friends still live in the area, could tell you some great stories.
watching this, because Birbiglia hilariously BOMBED on O&A. funny, because I remembered him killing! I then re-watched it... boy was I wrong. I can't wait to see how he's changed since then.
