    The only problem with CAR, not the system itself but the fact that if you were to use that and the attorney for the guy you shot or say an overzealous DA gets you on the stand and says "Did you use department guidelines and procedures when you shot (insert name of dead person)?" If you say no because your department has been using the same archaic firearms training since Reagan was President than you might have a problem. Believe me I used to talk about stuff just like this with our departments instructors and they agreed, learning every technique you can is a must BUT as a LEO myself, especially right now in this day and age where cops are getting thrown under the bus a lot by their own departments even if the shoot is legit, one needs to be careful. Outside of that, this is a great system and the better you can retain the gun and not give the bad guy a chance to grab it while having the ability to deal with the threat the better off you will be.

      But if the suspect jumps you and is on top of you, what department stance are you going to use when your fighting over your pistol? CAR addresses many issues that departments doe not have a technique for, nor fit inside departmental guidelines.

      I see another problem under this scenario a good defense attorney might try to bring up bating. The defense attorney may bring up that the officer put himself what would appear to be a vulnerable position for the suspect would attack him.

      CAR is a gimmick. A “gun fighting system” invented by a man who has never been in a gunfight.

      @@rifleshooterchannel208 I believe you are mistaken. This guy is tool bag and has obviously never been in a firefight. Paul Castle developed Center Axis Re-Lock because in a shoot out a high percentage of cops shots were not on target. Paul was US Army and LE. He developed his system due to the poor accuracy when under stress. And, for keeping your firearm close to the body and not extended out front for allowing your opponent easier access to your firearm as well as for tight quarters confrontations or CQB. All of which the true developer, Paul Castle experienced himself. This is just some knuckle head who watched 5 minutes of CAR training and shows the one grip and one stance in those 5 minutes of several hours and training available online as there are many for handgun, shotgun and rifle. This guy is an absolute tool and bag, this tool bag I guarantee was never a Marine or LEO. He is man who destroy metal target at point blank range. Suprised a piece of lead didn’t stick em. Judging from his performance of making no sense or no understanding of CAR, he must have been spanked with ricocheting lead. Putting it kindly, this man is a complete moron. Paul Castle, however, is the real deal. Awesome mag reloads, his knowledge and skills are invaluable. Paul was legit. This is some nobody with one ten years old video using a handle name as if he is a firearm trainer and invented CAR. Paul Castle is spinning in his grave right this moment. CAR has a place and a purpose. Which I CANNOT SAY ABOUT THIS VIDEO. 😂

    The flagging was intentional and exaggerated to demo that when the weapon is held correctly it is physically impossible to shoot your arm. Also note that during that time my finger is properly indexed. PS the ammo used is Frangible ammo that basically turns into dust upon contact with a hard surfaced. Shooting this since 2004, well over 200000 rds no issues. But it is not for the faint of heart, to be honest, it is scary to be shooting a handgun that close to your body. Takes a lot getting used to. Thanks for the comment and the justified concerns.

    I’m not standing that close to a subject regardless. I’ve been taught if that close to a subject without the need of firing but to gain control and compliance, step back while unholstering and aiming. Never be in a close proximity that someone can grab your arm. Can use CAR in any situation then extend arms at same time using the zipper effect too.

    Why couldn't a person simply scoot back if the issue is the muzzle distance in relation to target? Seems like a solution to problem that doesn't exist while limiting one's FOV to the 12-3o'clock position using the 'shoulder perpendicular' approach.
    -Lane

    • @garyjbelanger2139
      @garyjbelanger2139 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The primary intent for the position is for weapon retention, either against the perp or in an environment where you may be surrounded by a crowd of onlookers where they may be sympathetic to the perp. Scooting back may not be an option, and if you have ever been surrounded by an angry group of individuals that seems to be getting tighter and tighter, leaving that weapon out or exposed does not provide you with the warm and fuzzies. As far as limiting ones FOV, the High position allows one to scan their world w/o inadvertently moving the weapon off the perp and greatly reduces tunnel vision. No one, especially me is saying that the system is the end all be all, it is simply another tool in the tool box. Having that weapon in nice and tight, just like we do with our beer at a crowded bar, and knowing that you are in total control of it, is a very nice feeling when you are in a scary position. Tool are tools, pliers vs crescent wrench vs socket, it all depends on what you are doing and what is in your toolbox.

      I think the big issue with CAR is that any way the blade is configured, the shooter limits themself to observing the target from a position wherein the body blocks the non-shooting side and the target is placed near the periphery but the eye functions most effectively when centered.

    • @performancetactical8118
      @performancetactical8118  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Raider Applied Training & Tactics I have been shooting the system since introduced to it by PC back in late 2003 and I cannot recall myself or any of my students ever having an issue observing the target. Remember the body does not need to be at a full blade and the head still has quite a bit of mobility to place the eyes again front and center. Many people believe that CAR is a very rigid system however, in reality once you are comfortable with it, it can be very flexible and versatile. Again, as much as PC and I were hooked on the system, I will never claim it to be the end all be all. The best technique, is the one that works best for the shooter! Tools, just tools, everyone has one that seems to be their go to tool!

    Great point but please don't shoot steel targets at less than 10 yards w/handgun or 25 yards w/rifle. It's dangerous, the round has enough power to injure at close range.

      @@zoltancsikos5604, CAR was conceived as a close quarters technique. It certainly offers no advantage for shooting at farther distances.

      its better to flag your arm then to have the attacker take your gun away and put a bullet in your head don't you think? And if you actually go through the training, you never shoot unless the other arm is tucked and gripping the pistol.

Because, this time I laughed so hard peed a little! 😂😂😢😂! Haha, omg, you are hilarious! If your CAR, intro to one aspect of the many , but this is everything you need to know training doesn’t work out, well you should do comedy, because this is funniest thing I have seen in some time. I literally peed a little! Thank you again and I feel better knowing you are out there protecting America! 😂.

    I don't like how close the left arm/hand is repeatedly, to the muzzle sweep. Also, for left handers, the ejections are coming straight up into your face - deal ender as I see it. Hypothetically, if I were a bad guy, with a traditional LEO stance aimed at my chest, I don't know how much chance I'd give myself to rush and try grabbing for that weapon; also, LEO are dealing with secondary aspects of restraint, arrest, etc. and the bad guy might just notice how the gun aim wanders off when it is held low and out of direct sight line. If he darts to this guy's left, the guy's entire left side and arm totally block the weapon from the BG. Tradeoffs all around, but seems more like a marketing gimmick in many ways.

    • @uscg8168
      @uscg8168 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      CAR is ideal with the secondary aspects, because you don't suffer from fatigue of traditional stance with your arms stretched. You can reach for your radios and equipment because it frees your hands, you have an upper position which places the arm close to the shoulder and pass the shoulder and it frees up your other hand, this eliminates the sweep as you use the other arm to reach for microphone etc...

    As far as a shooting technique I think it has place under certain circumstances and it is great to know. As far as using this technique as a tactical there are too many flaws under the scenario that you describe.
