This repair and replacement of the diamond at Deshler is just totally amazing
The view of the ballast cleaner at Roanoke is just amazing! Very rarely does something so cool park right in front of you.
Loved watching the replacement rail tracks!
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in multiple locations, especially train meets in Fort Madison, Iowa, Heritage Units, Diamond replacement in Deshler, Ohio, and so much more, i like them, they're awesome, @Virtual Railfan, thank you very much.
Some good stuff tonight, thanks VRF. The MOWs were interesting, particularly the Diamond. No better way to Pressure-test the new Track, than with the weight of a Train passing over it.
Had to chuckle seeing that AC-equipped CSX switcher. As a kid in the early 1970's, the yard goats I saw were mostly late 1940's-50's weary veterans. AC to them was whatever breeze came in the windows!😄
This was amazing seeing that dimaond replacment going on! Keep up the amazing work!
Pretty cool watching it real time. Lots o guys standing around at many points but great job on getting this in place in less than a day!!
A big difference was the crane being used versus a bunch of excavators: I think something like six of them.
Dang, it didn't seem that long ago that they replaced that diamond. But I guess it's been about 7 years now!
If my lousy memory is working, it was in 2018.

Ain’t it funny how the time flies?
Did A Wonderful Job..Enjoyed Watching Replacement Of Rail Tracks!
Amazing Deshler replacement footage. I never had to deal with diamonds in my 10-year short-line MOW career, but holy cow, that is impressive. 5 and a half hours to replace double diamonds is just crazy. How about a thumbs up for the unsung workers on the RR, the men & women who keep the trains rolling at ground level...salute!
The bit with the “geometry” car at Big Ten curve is interning. I suspect that the flat car between it and the motive power is make the shaking as minimal as possible, especially during a sudden emergency breaking.
Love seeing the diamond track replacement
Amazing work they did in that diamond in deshler
Deshler work wow
Wow 😮 Thanks VRF Loved ❤
BNSF has such impressive power moves!
Nice coverage guys !! Thx for sharing…
*Awesome Video*
That was a treat to watch the BNSF employee wave @ 4:12 mark n then hear another BNSF loco hoot that Shave n (. ) horn call!
Shave n haircut…duh! 😂😅
Maintenance operations, could watch them all day. A railroaders ballet. Great work V/R, covering all aspects of railroading. More than just trains. BTW, what time is the next train?
0:55 BN !!!!!!! I MISS YOUR GREEN CARS. I SAW THEM EVERY DAY IN COHOES NY FOR DECADES
Great grab bag. Was the new diamond at Deshler a Peco one or an Atlas one? Looked like a good fit, anyway! Cheers!

10:18 NS 1000 as mid-train DPU with a crew member inside. As a kid, I used to also wave at the DPUs thinking there was someone operating them separately. Every train video I had back then showed rear and mid-train locomotives being operated by their own crew.

12:42 replacing diamonds in Deshler. Amazing to see them scoop away the old ballast, flatten it, and then lift the giant combined sections as one

5 years after the Deshler diamond was replaced, it gets replaced again. Good job to every1 who did the work.
diamond replaced in 5.5 hours is impressive.
Railfan at crossing with 3 way meet: "Praise the Lord!" 😄 (whips out phone camera.)
Impatient driver at same crossing: "Oh, you have got to be (bleep) kidding me!" 😡
The camera at Waycross really needs to be repositioned. The roof blocks so much of the view.
I wonder how long that new diamond will last and if they'll bring the speed back up to 50 or so.
Hi Virtual Railfan & it's Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Virtual Railfan & Thanks Randy
At 10:11 mark, you missed 2 Milwaukee RD cars setting in storage background as video panned by…
"Why is Amtrak always late?" Your honor, I submit 01:29 as exhibit A
I think that the diamonds were just replaced last year. Is it common for them to be replaced every year? Thanks!
Anyone that says the economy is bad needs to watch those 4 BNSF trains all running heavy
Honestly, why does anyone 🎉hunk the Waycross camera is worth watching? I guess if you want to see a roof, then it is a good choice.
Diamond replace at Deshler Again? This was done back in Sep.2018 so how many years dose this need to be done?
It's rare to see a BNSF foreign power train with a Metrolink F59PHR.
@ 16:15 HOLICRAP!!
didn't they just replace that diamond?
Didn’t they replace the diamonds at Deshler not too long ago?
Last time they used several excavators. This time they had the huge crane…
I'm sorry, but 06:00 - "DO NOT HUMP" lol
The Diamond only lasted 5 Years.
If my lousy memory is working, the diamond that was installed was a new design that was being tried out. It seems it didn’t work too well as there was always repairs being done to it. The new diamond is a different design.

Wow that absolutely amazing how quickly and efficiently the railroad workers are able to do that kind of very heavy repair and make it look so easy? So well engineered! Huge kudos to all the hard working and dedicated railroad workers that keep trains rolling quickly and safely around the US! Truly remarkable to watch! Thank you so much for showing this detailed repair sequence it was so interesting 😊
Deshler diamond replacement was really interesting. Thank you.
They're fixing the "level" crossing at Ft. Madison!! No more cars stuck trying to cross!
Yay!! That was such an amazing operation to see.
What an effort by the rail workers to get in, get out, and get done so quickly!!
Loved the Deshler rail diamond change out footage. The Rocky Mountaineer trains are some of the best looking train sets.
Great video showing the Deshler diamond work.
11:58 is the lightning for anyone that wants to play it!
Shocking
Great Grab Bag! Wow Galesburg who can do a four Way Qaudriple Header Freight Train ! Deshler Diamond Replacement Mow Crew Tip the Hat!
Just caught this at the end while they were taking the crane down. I operate an overhead crane as my daily so it was neat to see how a mobile crane is taken apart for transport.
The dexterity (I could say delicacy) with which those equipment operators maneuver those big machines simply blows me away every time I see it--it's completely engrossing to watch! I can only imagine how incredibly difficult the job was before these pieces of MOW equipment were invented. Seeing the Rocky Mountaineer on Big 10 was a treat, the lightning strike was scary-cool, and it was neat that 2 of the trains in that great 3-way seemed to be going the exact same speed. This one was especially terrific--thank you!!
12:50 Looks like a new CAT. Does that make it a kitten?
WTH, I can not think of another VRF production with more surprises and engaging content than this one. Five stars for sure !!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow, the Deshler diamond replacement was impressive. Especially when that heavy lift crane picked up the prefabricated crossing. BTW you need to replace that microphone at the Virginia museum. Muffled sound and you need to turn down the volumes at a couple other locations. Sounds like the mics are getting blown out.
So it takes 17 men to fix a new track that is like the guys in England fixing the road I man doing the work a 5 men watching him do it
I've seen lots of pre-made turnout's, but never seen a pre-made Diamond. Respect to the Crews! Thx!
I've seen UP replace the diamonds in west chicago twice in the 12 yrs i have lived in IL
Ballast (gravel) is so important! I always see folks make the mistake of using river rock (pebbles) on their driveways. Because it is round, it constantly moves and shifts and is inherently unstable. Gravel ballast, by contrast, is angular, the individual pieces lock together and are stable, so always use it for driveways or anywhere stability is required, like railroad beds!
Diamond replacement is important for the train wheels, all the FLANGE ways have too line up perfectly.
I remember from a previous VR video that that Deshler diamond crossing was making a lot of noise when a train was going over it - no wonder they're replacing it....
That is cool seeing those two BNSF trains running the exact same speed in the same direction. Never seen that before. Great catch. Then it happened again!
Another diamond replacement? I feel like Deshler had one not all that long ago. Fun to watch, as always.
Wow. How often do you see three trains at the same time? Nice catch
Boy, better get that measurement right on that one.
Ok let's see if we did it right. Send that intermodal train!
11:15 "On top of old smoky"
Yall need to put cameras at tehachappi pass in socal
There already a camera
Why the replacement at Deshler? They went through this whole procedure 2 or 3 years ago.... A lot of wear?
Yea because alot of trains go thru there. You'd be amazed.
@@BigAlFPV17 Plus the geometry of the crossing means numerous right-angle hits and stress.
Lots of great MOW action and good catch on replacing the diamonds!🛤🚂
