TASBot plays Legend of Zelda, or kids react to nostalgia, or Link luck manips (titles are hard, yo)

  • TASBot plays tasvideos.org/3... - NES The Legend of Zelda (USA PRG0) in 22:17.53 by Lord Tom
I don't exactly know what to title this - come for the TASBot console verification, stay for DefeneSam and Wrentendo reacting to nostalgia? Watch Link luck manipulate his way through this classically hard game with absurd success? Come watch slack-jawed as TASBot plays the dungeons in all kinds of strange orders? All I know is Lord Tom really did a good job of this TAS. He also did a good job of describing it in his submission notes at tasvideos.org/5... complete with memory addresses he monitored and full explanations of the vast number of glitches he employed. (Yes, that's side-scrolling Link shooting at Ganon in the thumbnail, but it's easier to show that way.)

Personally I would never showcase my kids on TH-cam or anywhere online. Regardless of your reasoning to do so, it's exploitative as they are still unaware of exactly what is happening or the possible results of appearing publicly for a large audience. Just be aware of how many creeps are out there.

    • @dwangoAC
      @dwangoAC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +61

@@Iliek I definitely wouldn't use the word exploitive. I have unusually cognizant kids and DefeneSam is nearly at an age where he can stream on his own should he choose to do so. Don't be fooled by Wrentendo, she may look small and cute but she's older than you might think and is often the one who pushes the hardest to stream, like that time she cooked dinner. They have both been to AGDQ events so they understand the size of the audience and I've impressed upon them the importance of safety online (in part why we never use real names on stream). Everything we do is within the guidelines of Twitch and TH-cam policies around content featuring minors and I never ask them to be fake or act like something they aren't. The extended family is aware of and comfortable with the presence all of us have online and we did not start streaming carelessly. I absolutely appreciate that many family dynamics are not conducive to kids in a publicly visible situation and it's not a good fit for everyone but we seem to be finding the right balance. If in the future something arises that warrants attention you can be sure that the kids will always be the highest priority and I'll adjust course as needed. I can tell you are writing out of genuine concern and I honestly appreciate that.

Thank you for the reply. Perhaps one could say I'm over-protective of my children and personally think the internet is no place for any child as it's far too easy to be exposed to disturbing and degenerate media and personalities. There are many depressed, depraved people who spend a lot of time online with no real understanding or care for family life and I hate the idea of children being exposed to such people. Twitch alone has quite a high number of personalities I would never want them to be exposed to. I think you're a good Dad overall and like how involved with them you are. Still, I strongly believe the internet is no place for children as it's impossible to completely control what they see and who they interact with online.

Some friends of mine just had a kid too and with GDQ being a thing I started getting nostalgic about how the younger generations will miss out on all the stuff I got to enjoy when I was younger. There's no pause sound effect or transition or anything when pausing LoZ this way - everything just freezes where it is, so it sounds like lag frames or a glitch.

Came for TASBot, stayed for the amazing dad.

The damage boost without taking damage was due to hitting the enemies that don't damage you but only remove your ability to use a sword. You can get "damaged" by these enemies as much as you like.

Wait, how does TASBot respond to RNG-based enemies. Sorry if you said how; I'm in a restaurant and can't hear well.

Because he always provides the same input in the same order the pseudo random number generator always produces the same results meaning changing input while creating the TAS makes it possible to manipulate different enemy drops.

If everything the RNG uses to generate it's pseudo randomness (like inputs, time since power on, ...) is the same every time, the generated randomness will always be the same, so the enemies always behave exactly the same.

If you want to see something really mind-blowing, check out NESCardinality's speed run of Dragon Warrior. Real-time, non-tool assisted speedrun, with RNG manipulation based entirely on a series of frame-perfect inputs.

10:00 eight tri-force pieces and ganon's castle for nine total dungeons. The tri force of power and the other one. You need one to open death mountain, you get one back from Ganon.

The worst thing for Japanese game makers is hearing small American children try to read their names off of old video game credits.

Imagine if someone could make a tasbot to raise kids. That way parents could spend there time on something better. Just a bot that does everything as efficiently as possible.

    • @dwangoAC

Spending time with my kids is more rewarding than spending time with TASBot. Don't get me wrong, TASBot work is rewarding as well but it's not the same.

I find it a little disturbing these small children know so much about this stuff. I hope they also read books and play outside
