Starro - truly one of those wtf concepts where if it didn't have a long history from the comics, no one would ever think of creating it from scratch today for the main villain in a major summer blockbuster.
That is the power of James Gunn; he likes taking obscure shit in comics nobody really considered seriously to be in superhero movies, and actually making it work. The Guardians of the Galaxy were literally a C to D list superhero team before Gunn reinvented them for the MCU, and now they're one of the mainstays of Marvel comics, so much so, the comics reinvented them to more closely resemble Gunn's version.
@@gernanite911 actually yes I’m a way. The starfish themselves just conquered different planets in order to get slaves and reproduce. But one day they conquer this planet where the people are psychic and they are still aware while they are forced to be slaves. One of the children break free or avoids capture (it’s been a while since I read) and goes to confront the Queen. It dies and a new Queen is born and attacked him. But instead of going to his face it goes to his chest due to the kid fighting back at the right time or something (again, been a while). Since the kid is already psychic and the starfish doesn’t latch to his head he is able to take control of it and the entire species as a result. But he goes crazy from either the starfish or just because and because Starro the Conqueror. So yeah, the starro species was evil but starro the conqueror was different from the rest of his race
I think that it should be noted that at the ending of Justice League: The New Frontier, Starro the Conqueror is a 'remnant' of the main villain from the movie - The Centre. And when it came to The Suicide Squad movie, I was quite surprised that Starro was going to be the central villain when I first saw the trailer which showed his appearance. But it goes to show that 'only' someone like James Gunn can achieve something like that. I would also like to think that Starro could have just left Earth the moment he was free. That way, he would see the stars again.
I honestly think that Starros Batman Beyond rendition is the best one, or at least one of the best. Its not a villian, but instead a tragic creature wanting to return home, believing that by being belligerent (just like the man who saved it from eternal capture), it could go home again. Still to this day that 2 part arc was my most vivid memory of the show
I'm not sure if this falls under what you are looking for but there is a movie called battle of the super sons where he is shown as the main antagonist
I’m still confused about the design. It’s like someone saw one of those “grows in water” toys, stuck a googly eye in the middle, and made it fart facehugger versions of itself out its armpits.

in the powerless one, Starro's eye kinda resembles that of gargantos. i wonder if they have anything related? or maybe hes with shuma gorath? we may never know (or may)
I have stated something similar if they have met before during the dc marvel crossovers or even long before since they conquer planets and other universes or realms however Shuma Gorath is known to have conquered many universes not just planets and has his own realm while Starro has his own planet Also claimed that they could possibly be long distance specie cousins from different universes that are similar species.

Simon Chang you are starro
It does have a long history from the comics. Starro first appeared 1960
You are starro
I am starro
He is like a cousin specie to Shuma Gorath yet from another universe.
I like what they did to Starro in the new Suicide Squad movie.
Making a silly villain sympathetic without being try hard.
I mean, it basically did the same thing with Starro as Batman Beyond.
Eh not really. He killed polkadotman

3:23 Starro is like the borg. All it takes is one nano-probe to have survived out there, and one spore to have survived.

He wanted revenge for his capture and continuous torture that's why he didn't leave
How would he even get to space? He can’t fly in suicide squad (barring his clones) so he’d be stuck on Earth.
The fact that DC Superhero Girls is on this list is amazing
Even though it's a kids show I frickin love it
