Hi Heidi🌺 . Very cool video about microclimates in the garden . I love areas near my house because I want to plant coffee tree and its white flowers are stunning and I want to protect it from winter or wind . Heidi if you plant gardenia and see if it will be fine . Have a great day .🌺🌻🌺
I live in the Texas panhandle; zone 7a. Our fall season hasn’t really started yet. 😩 93* yesterday. 80s and some 70s are supposed to be coming in soon they say. 🤞🏻 I potted up a quart sized Quick Fire Fab this spring and it has buds all over. Woohoo! 🥳 Thanks for all this great info! I learned lots! 👍🏻
I live in southern Indiana and we have had beautiful color in our hardwoods. Some just glow with the sun on them. Today we are starting to lose leaves.😊
Excellent video as usual. I am in Wisconsin, wondering if it's to late to move a lilac to a different location. It's on the border of my patio and I only meant to keep it there until it got established as I had dug a not to great piece off a plant that was growing on a lilac at a nearby church. It reminded me of the lilac my mom had when I was a kid which is no longer available . It has been in for 2 years , looked better this year and we had lots of rain in spring which really helped. I didn't move last year because we had drought from spring thru fall the previous year. Should I move now or wait until Spring. Thanks, your the best and looked stunning at your son's wedding.. congratulations to the happy couple!
I live in southern Ontario. Fall has been fantastic here. Temperatures still quite warm. Fall colors were spectacular. A little on the dry side lately. We need some rain!
Very interesting! I live in a small farming community in Central Minnesota with a population of 2,300. Our small town got bumped up to a zone 5 from 4b. Not a huge bump but it is when you consider all the zone 5 plants and shrubs now available to add to the garden. I'm thrilled! There is a small lake on the north side of town. Perhaps it contributed to the "urban" microclimate humidity as you stated in the video. Thanks for covering this subject!
The hardiness zone map was pretty much updated all over the US this past year. It seems like every zone got bumped up a half of zone. We went from a 5b to 6a here in MI where i live.
Thank you, Heidi. You’re a fount of knowledge: I didn’t know that shady areas hold more humidity…now I know why my mom planted several “tropical” plants/trees in a slightly shady areas…wished I knew more about microclimates sooner, maybe my morninga tree wouldn’t have died.
I live in SE PA, in a wooded area, and our color this year was not as nice since we are in a drought situation. I would say about 80% of the leaves are down which is allowing more sun to shine which is fine with me. One of today's chores is blowing the leaves back into the woods. Have a great day!!
Heidi,Interesting video! I am in zone 7A, Indiana, and the celosia or dragon breathe in a pot outdoors looks as vibrant as ever. The ivory halo dogwood are shedding their leaves but I like the red color of the branches. Coreopsis still have some yellow flowers and two out of three hostas planted in a shady area still look pretty good. My first year of gardening here and all when well although some challenging times when temps were very high! Your lake is gorgeous and I can see your garden has not come to a complete hault either! Happy Autumn to you in Michigan.
Hi Heidi, I live in Southern Idaho, zone 6a, we had a very dry summer, so our fall color didn’t last long, but was pretty. We have already had several frosts.
Hi Heidi! I found a couple of hardy camellias. I’m fearful of planting them with our winter winds and little protection. Should I keep them in the pots or plant them with something around them? The back is facing north and I have a large garage/shed to the left and 6 large spruce trees to the right. Middle is open… Thank you for your continued knowledge and help! 😊 It’s always an experiment!
We don't grow camellias in our zone, but my recommendation would be to get them in the ground. Plants in my experience do better in the ground over the winter than in the pot.

So many options of things to try that is for sure.
Frost in southern Kentucky before northern Michigan, amazing! Thanks for the tips, Heidi.
Glad it was helpful!

It has been very windy here and the leaves are dropping.
Once it has gone dormant is a good time to transplant, before the ground freezes

I hear ya, we need rain as well. The lake has dropped almost 2' this summer
I live in western MA and we had a beautiful fall

Hi Heidi! I'm in zone 5a, Ottawa Canada. Fall colours were magical! Had our 1st frost last week but today is 22°C, go figure!
It has been very up and down, with more up than down.

Me too. We really need rain.
Drought has been as issue for sure.

Thank you for watching. We had a very late Fall this year, it was kind of nice... but the plants sure were confused.

We had a fairly wet early summer and a dry late summer. I was surprised we had good color
