If you had been in Seattle in late 1984 and early 1985, you would have seen "Stop Making Sense" at the Market Theater, the marquee for which can be seen behind and to the left of "Coffee Julie" in our first glimpse of her here. My friend Ann owned the place and we booked it as a single-screen first-run indie movie house, back when such a thing was possible! ("Stop Making Sense" ran for months and we followed it with the Seattle premiere engagement of "Stranger Than Paradise"...) Those gorgeous images of the Market lit up at night really take me back...

Damn Mazzy, whenever I hear you wax about SF in the late '60s it really stirs the imagination. You were in the vortex of that whole psychedelic scene and so much more. Thanks for your reminiscences and trips down memory lane - they bring the records to life and they're what makes your channel one of the absolute best in the VC. Cheers...

Thanks for this Mazzy. Great to see One Trick Pony getting some love. I have an OG US press and it sounds amazing. An audiophile record which can be picked up for less than 15bucks NZ (10US) The detail and soundstage is present at low volume levels. Late in the evening and Jonah on side 2 are particularly good sounding tracks.

Hey Mazzy, you amaze me with your diverse knowledge of music, you definitely have a great collection! Living overseas, we didn’t have access to records, so I used to listen to BBC on a tiny radio and go to the US Culture Center to read about these bands, even I made a note book. I came to US in 1990 so I got to catch up, but no where near your knowledge. Great videos!

Leon Russell did an Awesome job bringing the band together. Joe Cocker was expecting a break when he came to America and they added this to him. He was exhausted at this point in his life.

Hi Maz! Every Sunday I go searching for new artists and music. Your whack a mole is a nice insight to your musical tastes. And I really like that Saturday's Sons record. I've put it in my Amazon playlist to listen to later. Also I would like to ask a question about your collection. I noticed that your cubes are mostly full. When you buy new records do you have to move everything in each cube over to make room for the new one 🙂I only have 550 records in 2 Ikea 2x4 Calex units and even in my small collection it's a pain to have to move stuff around to make room for new records!

Mazz, I saw Joe Cocker in early 72 and he had, (I counted), 28 people onstage either singing, playing, or banging on something. It wasn't quite 'Mad Dogs' but still slightly chaotic. The interesting thing about that show was that Stevie Wonder was the lead in. When he came out people were yelling 'Fingertips' and he announced that there would not be any old songs played. He played everything on "Talking Book" and his performance literally floored me, not being familiar with him. Joe was great, but was over staged that night! One month later I got drafted.......Much Love, Ray.

I always had a crush on Joan Hackett going back to The Last Of Sheila ..so I saw One Trick Pony in the cinema & liked it. The album itself , is a fairly pedestrian affair.

    • @bacarandii

I liked the album better than the movie (I bought a NM used soundtrack LP of it just last year). But you're right: the album doesn't have Joan Hackett.

vern gosdin is the same vern gosdin who sang the country hit "chiseled in stone"? i had no idea the hillmen existed. "when the ship comes in" is probably my favorite dylan song so much so that that even your rendition is passable. i like "one trick pony" and the only problem with "mad dogs" is having anyone other than joe cocker sing the dylan songs. dylan was in the audience.

The two Jim’s! Leave it to Mazzy - The musician’s music lover. Thanks for mentioning Jim Gordon (mister drive it forward) and Jim Keltner (mister casual and loose)
Keltner needs to write an autobiography. He’s played with everybody who’s anybody. Musical history from a leading account - the back end view. There’s the title of the book! “Back End Views” 😜

The Doors at the Matrix yep got that! Other stuff I don't know if I will go for them! Oh dear Joe cocker I saw the documentary in the early 70's and hated it! In fact it was key to forming a band in 76 and loving punk to blow all that horrible self indulgence with unlikeable people away! Which here in the UK it did! Saw the documentary again recently and had to turn it off! Purley personal I know in the US you love this kind of thing! Joe Coker had lost control of his career and band is my impression! Great video Mazzy

Interesting combination today! Virtually any record from Rounder or Flying Fish sounds great. BTW, 'infamous' is 'famous' with a severely negative connotation, i.e. Taylor Swift =famous, Hitler = infamous, so not interchangeable.
