One of the reasons they were created was because freight going up the tracks in Ogden Canyon put a strain on steam engines.

Great story! My grandfather was an engineer on the “Big Boy”, his route running from Ogden to Evanston in the 40’s and early 50’s. A great piece on local history.
Твой дедушка герой😊
Now that's the King of the Rails!❤❤❤😎
Chased the Big Boy from Evanston all the way back to Ogden! It was transformational. I cannot wait for it to come back to Utah later this month!
0:51 i'm a volunteer there, that's me with the yellow lanyard and short sleeve shirt helping to operate the turntable for rides!
what a wonderful story. I miss home so much, and this is one reason why. we love our history!
The Big Boy class of locomotives helped win WW2.
I have only seen the one in the Dearborn museum when I was in JH school, it has been a while and 61 now.
yeah the one at the dearborn museum isnt a Big Boy, it's a Chesapeake & Ohio 2-6-6-6 Allegheny
Love this Big Boy! I'd give anything to be able
to take ride with this magnificent hunk of metal.
Outstanding ! ! REAL Americana.
No disrespect. But to the man that said it’s like the Hogwarts express. No it’s not. Like not at all. It’s way better. It’s the best in the world.
Yeah that comment confused me. The Hogwarts Express doesn’t exist. It’s a fictional train. This is real. How does someone come to that conclusion 🤦🏾♂️
Bro thinks he’s at universal😑
That’s freaking beautiful
I am looking forward to seeing it in California
Love you steam locomotive 🚂 4014
You sound like a child
Did….did he just compare 4014 to the Hogwarts Express? 🤦🏾♂️
Worked for UP and then get either fired or laid off and wished you never worked there
Looks to have been converted to run on fuel oil?
If so, what grade and at what firing rate (G.P.H.)? Thank you.
How exciting!
It will be 3.5 hours from me in 2 days. So tempted to go.
Как американцы любят свои паровозы😊❤ здорово💪💪💪💪💪
WW2 my father rode to California joined the Marines
Correct me if I'm wrong but 4014 was converted to oil, right?
Not an single "nippon" component used. Made in U.S.A means something now!
You claim that the railroad was Union Pacific in Roseville back when the locomotives were king. Incorrect it was PFE Pacific Fruit Express and when they had the biggest ice house this west of the Mississippi. I come from a long railroad family from Roseville.
Long live SP! Johnny.
It doesn't meet California Air Resources Board (CARB) emission standards, but who cares?! Look at it go!
When is Union Pacific 844 steam locomotive Return
Bigga boy!😊
its like the howards express, but for americans
🤌
Locomotive. It's a locomotive.
Love this Big Boy! I'd give anything to be able
to take ride with this magnificent hunk of metal.
